@@nomadkitchen2716 I know what you mean re: Jake and Nicole it actually put me off following them
Same here! My wife and I are super curious about all you've learned :D
I love what you two are doing. Kudos to both of you.
Coming over from City Prepper. Going to try to get through this year quickly so I can follow along for year 2
Looking forward to following your journey. I understand you want to grow or forage everything. It doesn’t sound like bartering is part of the plan. One year while living near the ocean we caught the bulk of our food. As friends and neighbors found out we always had fish and crab in the freezer we were often asked if we would barter especially for the crabmeat.
Yes, crab meat is definitely a hot commodity, even when everyone lives so close to the ocean!
I'm excited to follow you two! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!
Thanks Dawn 🙏
Cool. Im here from the Facebook chicken group.
Awesome. Thanks for following along :)
Same 🤣
The same. Hugs for all chicken mama's and daddies
Same
Haha, same here! What y’all are doing is so awesome! An absolute dream of mine!
Just watched you on the local Victoria news. You both look to good and glowing healthy. All the best!
Thanks so much. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy following along with our weekly videos ❤
We just moved from Texas to South Dakota and are finally getting to live our dream of having a real farm. With everything going on in this world, my husband and I have been wanting to become one with our surroundings and learn to be more self sustainable. I came across your post in one of the Facebook groups I’m in and was led to your channel (which I’ve subscribed to!) and you guys are giving me the motivation and encouragement to do this exact (or similar) thing out here. We came from extreme heat to now extreme cold and snow (blizzards) and heavy winds. I’d love to see if we would survive a year ourselves. Stef did an amazing job harvesting the chicken for her first time (I still have yet to do that). I will be following you guys to learn as well and wish you all the best!!!
What a nice message. Thanks so much. It sounds like you are well on your way to your own adventure. Good luck with the farm and keep us posted on how its going. Thanks for following along with our Challenge
I just found your page, love seeing other people that realizes how much we depend on foods from stores. I have been home from work since March 2020, and it truly did show myself, husband and our daughters just much we depend on all grocery shopping and going out for a bite to eat, dropping i’m at a Dunkin or Starbucks for coffee .i have always has three raised gardens, but with still being home for 17 months now, my husband is a very handy guy and he made three more raised beds for us to be able to grow more veggies, berries, herbs and melons. we have added more tomatoes plants nasturtium flowers that are edible (both flowers and green leaves). I love what you are doing On another note trying to eat healthy for some people that strict diets for example would be for diabetes. You are only able today eat certain foods (mostly veggies) but if you go in the stores for them it cost so much money to eat healthy that a lot of people cannot afford healthy foods. i think what you are doing is great and keep up the great work! i’m sure you have taught many people out there how and what they can grow or make with all of the foods you supply yourselves.
Hey guys, what you are doing is awesome. My partner and I are up in Campbelll River and are working towards getting a place for offgrid/ independent living too. Cheers.
So glad I found your channel! I cant wait to learn from you guys and your experience!!
really amazing initiative and people
Okay so I have to say, your videos have me believing I can do anything I put my mind to! You both remind me so much of myself and my husband. I want nothing more than to homestead. I’ve been slowly learning how to be self sufficient. RUclips has been super helpful and then to find your videos! Thank you for your candor. I’m so excited to watch more of what you have going on and can’t wait to see what I learn over the next few months. We have had a garden before but this year was our first real attempt at tomatoes, peppers and squash. Over this winter we plan to prep for next year’s garden. There is so much to do to be ready in time but I know we can because we both want it! Sending all of the successful vibes and love!
Hey Leanne,
Thanks so much. I feel like we were in your shoes a year ago. All we had was a small garden when we started this challenge. It's amazing what you can learn and accomplish when you put your mind to it (even as amateurs). So glad you're planning to expand on what you're doing. Find us on Facebook and keep in touch.
Future goals. We got a late start in life. Kudos!
Thank you. Just getting our start as well. :) Never too late to start
I’m just so excited to find you and learn from you
Thank you

Shelley T from FB Garden Group: Dudes, you really are eating paleo! Funny how that naturally happens. I hope you find some lovely meals that give you some respite from the day to day. I bet you really feel those days.
Yes. We definitely have had enough food, but the monotony is a little challenging sometimes.
So exciting! Good luck to the two of you!
Thanks so much. We are pretty excited too.
Binging your channel...local Fraser Valley follower over here. I live in the suburbs and grow as much as I can on our city lot to be self sustaining. Kudos to you guys for doing this. Be hard to do this with young kids like I have.
Ah fair play to you mate glad it’s going well for you I’ll be making me way though your page now can’t believe I’ve not come across you before happy days russell 👌🏻👍🏻
Thanks to Facebook, and being part of the Offgrid Wilderness Living group, I got to read your post on there. I so wish I could have seen a post about this from the beginning.
But here I am subbing before 2.70k currently at 2.69k and 4 months into challenge.

I've been living this kind of place too..peaceful

Hi Cecilia. We are glad you found our channel. Thanks for following along ❤
I love this! Nice work guys. 💜😊
Thank you!! 😁
Here from fb 😍 can't wait to watch more of your content.
Yay! Thank you!
sprouts are also easy to grow, great for protein and calcium. alfalfa sprouts, broccoli sprouts. they usually only take about 3 days to grow in the kitchen
Looking forward to learning a few things
Thanks Rick. We are newbies, but hopefully we can teach you something :)
Awesome good goals
Thank you 🙏
This is something I dream about but, would be learning all of it as a novice. Being with a partner would be the icing on the cake but my wife is not on board with something more than just camping for a week or living in a camper for a couple weeks. I have 10 acres that are surrounded by vacant land, none of which has ever had a house on anyone of it. Perfect for me to do this. Will be watching your video's going forward. God Bless
Nice content looking forward your next videos
Thank you. :) New funny one out today :)
look at the difference from this video to who they are now? incredible
Thanks so much ❤
Congratulations from Hueco Tanks/ El Paso, Texas. I live in the desert where we have to get our water trucked in and we are trying to grow a few things- the bunnies are currently enjoying the harvest, haha :) Thank you for sharing your story.
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Things would definitely be a lot more challenging if we had to truck in our water
This is so awesome and inspiring!
Thank you 🙏
Loving this place
Thank you 👌
That’s a challenging goal. Good luck. I’m just trying to lower my grocery bill with the food I grow.
Thanks so much. It has definitely been challenging, but very rewarding too.
@@LovinofftheLand agreed, definitely worth it.
A tip is never chase a chicken, you can just sneak up on your chickens when they are asleep at night.
thank you for the tip :)
I heard you on CBC radio today while driving! Score!
Thanks Bobby. Hope you enjoy following along
Just fascinated how you guys already go through! what facebook groups did you guys join into or any resource that guided you about ensuring that you supplement with a complete nutrition? really have trouble about this :((
You made me think twice, this is the hardest part of "Lovin the Land" it seems that the turkey was acetping his faith... RIP 😔
Wow guys. You are making me wet to try this. Keep up the great work. Looks so rewarding.
You should!
Goodjob bro keet it up
Thank you :)
I use Lemon balm tea, or chaga tea to replace am coffee/ caffeine lift. Are you able to harvest chaga mushrooms?
Im going to try now. lol. Does Chaga or Lemon Balm have caffeine in it?
Chaga grows only on birch trees in the northern hemisphere
Wow good luck!!
Thanks Sophie!!
More videos please i love your content
Thanks so much!!!
Saw ya on local Penticton news today , Ill start with this video !
Awesome. Thanks so much. Let us know what you think
Nice video
Thanks
Are you accepting visitors?
We are in Marpole and are really inspired.
Want to do something similar ASAP...
Chris check out the horse radish tree. Very healthy. You can live off the tree.
What???? A house radish tree? Will definitely look this up. Thanks
I thought they were way out nowhere near neighbors, but not sure which is most challenging- the temptations or the unavailability
At least we have no fast good on the island and most things are closed by 8pm. Lol
This is my ultimate goal
Thanks Kimberly... I am sure you can learn from a few of our mistakes. lol
Guys, you should get into Coturnix Quail.. 17 day hatch, 7 weeks to maturity (yes, laying eggs and all in 7 wks) great meat birds
Yes. We really want to do this. I think we are going to try in the Spring
First thing as a new subscriber.....I want to know how many trees have you planted .....??????
Hi Jim, thanks for following along. :)
So far only about 100 have been planted in there "forever" home here on Pender Island where we live. Most will be planted out this Fall which is the best time to plant trees for the highest survival rate.
We have about 1,500 seedlings in 4" pots on our property but will continue to let them grow until Fall. Still confidently on track for 4000 by the end of the year. Our video in about 3/4 weeks from now will be an update on our tree progress :)
Keep in touch and thanks again for following our journey :)
Is this Pender Island BC? As in Canada? It looks warm lol
It sure is :)
Great 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
Where do you recommend buying good seeds?
Just listened to you on MikChek and was wanting Joe or Kyle to ask if you two have lost weight in the past year and how much?
Oh ya. Down about 40 lbs. If you follow us on Facebook at "loving off the land" we'll be posting before and after photos next week.
@@LovinofftheLand thanks!! Will follow!
I have done the same thing but with a twist.....I'm stealing everything I consume.... practicing to be a democrat politician.
Can I ask what island you guys live on?
Yes, we live on Pender Island in the Gulf Islands. BC, Canada
@@LovinofftheLand greetings from Whidbey Island in WA state!
Kind of confused why you wouldn’t ease yourself into it by using what you already have in the kitchen too
We felt there would be too many temptations. We had some spices and things that probably would have lasted the whole year too. Decided it was best to give it all away to friends.
So glad I came across your channel.
I'm totally gonna binge watch your channel to get current and follow your journey!
Keep up the great work.
Very inspiring with my passion being cooking 🍳farm to table and confidence being self sufficient despite chaos breaks out in world 🌎...
Grocery store shortages or emergencies...
PREPARED!
BEST insurance policy and peace of mind could ever give yourself ... im on my way there too.
Would love to connect with yall ig @chefLaurenE
You're tired of eating dungeness crab? Blasphemy!
Haha. I know right? I never thought I would say that. Looking forward to it again now though. Boat is fixed so hopefully soon
I have subscribe to your RUclips channel by lekanomoonikan
