    Man, something about the calm quiet vibes of the way this video was made really fits the way a lot of us feel about hunting. A lot of hunting videos have hard loud fast paced rock riffs and guys yelling about the hunt and sometimes it almost seems disrespectful to the hunt. This was really nicely done man.

    Great job guys, nice video. Growing up in Northern New England I spent many October days chasing Patridge and have such fond memories, I think I can still smell that damp fall air.
    Many years now out West, chasing deer, elk and birds but almost every year I have visions and a longing to be patridge hunting in the North Woods.

    Stopping is tge most important part
    I once hiked an old log road and saw one standing in the middle of the road. I walked up to where it was and just stood in place and just kept and eye on one side of the road.
    I saw 16 without taking another step.
    It was old growth hardwoods and they were mostly on the ground and they were very camouflaged against the brown leaves on the ground.
    You wouldn't see them just walking by

      I was looking for a comment like this. I've been wondering is this type of hunting normal in all states of the US? It always looks so weird to me, because where I hunt (northern Europe) hunting like this is highly illegal. Shooting birds near roads is considered too easy and too dangerous. You cant even carry firearms in the car cabin without unloading them and putting them in a case or cover. After stopping the car you have to walk a good distance away from the road until you are allowed to shoot. If you did this here, you would get a hefty fine, and probably lose your weapons as well as your license to hunt. In theory it would even be possible to lose the car you used. We even have a nickname for people hunting like this in Finnish language, "maantiemetsästäjä", translated "roadhunter". This is a very negative word to describe someone, basically calling them poachers. I mean, no offense to these guys. But it just looks weird.

    • @Dr_Bust_Down
      @Dr_Bust_Down 10 месяцев назад

      @@torttulithe gunn has to be unloaded and it's illegal to shoot if cars are on the road , and poacher? Really? These are legal shots and how is shooting at a road with no cars for miles dangerous?

    • @torttuli
      @torttuli 10 месяцев назад

      @@Dr_Bust_Down Yes, it is illegal to carry a loaded firearm in a car. It has to be unloaded and in a cover. It is illegal to shoot from a (public)road, an animal that is on a road, or over a road. When hunting birds like grouse, it also applies on private roads. It is also illegal to shoot an animal shortly after stopping your vehicle or to use a vehicle as cover.
      Birds gather near roads to eat sand, and are not naturally afraid of cars. It is really easy to shoot great amount of birds near roads with little to no effort. This is why it is viewed as bad sportsmanship.
      Is it dangerous? Well, yeah, if you compare it to shooting in the woods. A bullet or a ricochet might travel miles on a road. There's more people on the roads. I've been myself in a situation where I saw a fox right in front of my car when driving a back country road. Next thing I knew. someone behind the next corner shot the fox that was just meters away from my car at the moment. Because of the corner he saw the fox but not my car. I count that dangerous.
      These might be legal shots over there, but here it is illegal.That is why hunting like this seems so strange to me. Here it is not only bad sportsmanship, but also illegal = poaching. Im not saying you are in the wrong, Im just saying this is why it seems strange to me.

      Finnish hunters nearly wiped out the grouse population 70+ years ago by hunting back roads from cars. Now we have very strict rules… including that if flush multiple birds you should shoot the slowest/weakest. For Americans, Finnish grouse hunting is weird because we often shoot roosted birds with a rifle (safety!) and hunters will use over unders with one barrel a shotgun barrel (flush) and the other a 22 rifle barrel (tree).

      @@ypgrohn I'd say most just use an over'n under with two shells as shooting a grouse out of a tree with a 22 seems impractical

    They shouldn’t be hunted on a road or shot on the ground. Leave them for real hunters.

      Here’s a suggestion for you. Hunt how you enjoy hunting and allow others to do the same. If you feel passionate about it you should contact your local representatives instead of harassing hunters who are following the law

      @@MainelyOutDoors Very well said! I’d like to also mention the countless awesome memories I have of riding around with friends/family heater hunting for grouse. Makes me smile just thinking about it! Too much damn fun!

      We don't shoot them on the ground where I come from, but we don't hunt deer with dogs like they do in Southern coastal areas, either. I figure if it's traditional and sustainable, then go for it.

    Good ol' ground swatting. In Wisconsin, unless you're using your EDC, have enough respect for the bird to walk up until they flush. WTF?!
