can you apply the displace to a curved surface or object, or only a plane upwards? If i model a box, only displace the top not the lateral of the box (wall).
Under the settings for the vray displacement modifier, scroll down and click "keep edge continuity" set the threshold to like .05 and your edges will not break the pattern.
I don't see any tutorial like yours, keep going vray for 3ds 😍
