Use one the high end bosch laser measurement devices. They come with a floor plan app. The device fully integrates with the app.

The Leica is connected with Bluetooth to the iPad in this case. When you want to record a dimension with it, you just tap on the dimension, and then laser it and the dimension is transferred.
