I can't believe O-Dog won the 3rd place against Hello Dance who won the 1st place. In my opinion O-Dog had a better performance
O-Dog might have a better performance overall but it is a dance competition , so I'm sure there's many other criteria they judge it

i think you guys need to understand that it's not judged based just on cool tricks and fun stories lol. i personally loved o-dog's routine the most but i can understand why hello dance won. they had performance, story building (through actions and symbolism with the red cloth) and precision. both still did really good.

I love O-Dog performance more. But technically speaking, this is worth the first place. It is not easy to dance in such accuracy while there is no song (most of them are sound effects). So dope

Though the naruto one (being an anime lover) appeased me more than this one did, you can't hell deny this was one masterful piece aswell, the choreography and the history behind the dance is just superb, if people stop being biased at the origin of the dance then people wouldn't have to fight about it, this deserved 1st place and no one can change that.

Nah I disagree this only won bc of the story, the dancing was subpar compared to naruto with a lot of the dancers not even being in sync with each other and a lack of oomph to make it amazing.

To those of you saying this didn't deserve 1st, while O-DOG had a performance the crowd loved, this piece has the most unique formations I've ever seen in a dance competition. It was precise, and smart. They thought out of the box and were able to advocate for a meaningful message with dance. This piece deserves more than 1st place.
O-DOG, in my opinion, give too much fans services, they are good indeed, but if you score them as whole, you can see the different

I think this performance represent the war between Japan and China (the costume of soldiers are very similar to that of modern japanese soldiers). It happened early 19's century and many chinese died (more than 3M as I read from a book) until Japan surrenedered at World war 2. Cuz there are cruel massacre by japanese soldiers (like Nanking massacre), still many chineses feel hostility toward japan. It is quite interesting to me that anti-japan performance got the 1st prize, and the most praised one is the Naruto, the representative of contemporary japanese culture...

Subliminal messages aside, i suppose the dances in terms of technicality, hello dance performs better than ODog. Along with chengdu, there are more formations and various choreo to look at. ODog performance tends to put your eyes at the center only because of naruto, 8tails, lee all, etc. You need a 2nd viewing or more to see the intricacies of the choreo. Also the formations are somewhat 2d compared to the 1st and 2nd placers' performances

Naruto was amazing but...this story is really deep....Knowing that not everyone is a Naruto fan I understand it’s first place (even if the Naruto dance made me cry). It should have come 2nd

I would have to agree. That Naruto gig was amazing and had my blood pumping every time I watch it. This was also well done, but if I'm honest, I don't want to get in my feels like this watching dance.

I dont know the history of this but it actually made me cry. I thought that O-DOG deserved to win at first but now that I watched this I understand why first place went to Hello Dance. They managed to deliver and evoke the story even to an audience who doesn't know the context of the history

I can see why there's some debate on why 2nd place got it's spot over the Naruto one but I 100% think this team deserved first. They're not just dancing to funky music and matching, this team had a real theatrical spin to it. It had a clear story with meaning, great music, and while yes not as flashy as others it very much felt like a stage play. I feel a lot of people forget that's how a lot of high-end dance performances can be - that's the beauty of dance. It's not just about the tricks. To me this group felt like a legitimate dance troupe.
Not to mention their performance was absolutely flawless. I think Rock Lee messed up a move on his performance - not sure on the 2nd place group. At least with this one it was pure dance while the Naruto one used a lot of clips to tell their story in-between any dancing.

As a Naruto fan..i love the O-Dog performance..but i can see why this got the first place. Even before i knew the backstory to this i felt the dance and their choreography is so sharp..i can only imagine what the people who knew the backstory felt like. Kudos to both groups!!!!!!
Ok i get it why they are 1st....their whole routine is clean and precise. Watching O-Dog gave me goosebumps and all but to be honest its not the dance that gave chills but the naruto theme. Hello Dance deserves to be the 1st

I was hesitant about why this was number one. But after watching it. I can assure you that this dance is storytelling on another level. Although to be fair, this is the first time I've seen storytelling like this, that aren't just musicals. xd
I'm a fan of Naruto, but I have to admit that this is the first place, it was just incredible the whole presentation, the synchrony of the music with the dance steps gives the feeling of being inside the show. Just wonderful.

@@karlocb8927 yeah but story telling was one of the requirements of what they were doing. And this dancing was more unique with different formations and patterns. And in dance, slower is harder and mistakes are more obvious and likely, yet this group made no mistake.

Guys, O-Dog had an amazing performance.
But these guys got out from the box and brought a story about China's Invasion by Japan in WW2. The story, the way that they did it, and also, not bringing an anime as everyone else did was one of the reasons why they won.
Both brought awesome stuff, but those guys were stunning.
This is art, unlike 2nd and the much beloved 3rd place. And I'm not saying this in a bad way. There's different ways in a dance stage and the most common is the entertainment with all the crazy stunts and visuals that usually win, but it's clear that here the judges were looking for originality and story value. That's why the Naruto piece (cool and all) didn't win, cause it was far less original (they just took an anime and recreated it) than the second place with this homage to the people who clean (nobody ever notices this small but really important jobs, therefore is way more creative to do a piece based on it.) And this number who approach a difficult subject in a smart, beautiful and artful way. I'm not a fan of dwelling in past issues (in my country ALL art forms talk about politics and it is boring) but the context here makes all the difference.
Too bad the Naruto fans can't take off their nostalgia goggles long enough to appreciate it. Don't see fans of the other two groups whining in the comments of the other videos. lol
This was beautiful and sad, they deserved 1st place for telling an actual story. The Naruto group was ultimately fan service in motion.. but they did perform well.

Well despite being late in watching this, I get why it's in 1st place. Even if I didn't know the exact history behind it, I get what's going on. I quite like it. Reading the comments did help clear up what the history was.
I think everyone should calm down about whose in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I mean its already set in stone on who won. All did a good job. I think if I knew what the uniform for 2nd place was, I think I would've understand the dance a bit more except the song choices.
I love Naruto too but I think it really just comes down to your taste in dance. If a dance group had performed one of my favorite anime badly, I wouldn't choose them no matter how much I like the show. If I see another dance group I like more, I'd choose them even if my favorite anime had performed well.
Yeah man, people disliking this vid just cuz they though Naruto should've won without realising that this is actually really really good and technically probably harder than Naruto. That's not saying the Naruto group didn't do well (Naruto is also one of my favourite anime), it's just that this group danced better and created an amazing story. Although I do think the Naruto dance should've got 2nd.

Bethany Coates I think it's about Japan invading China. The family in white was about to rebel and got caught by the Japanese army. One guy tried to send a message (the red handkerchief) to warn the others but was caught. Then the family in white were killed.

when I was 12 I thought this performance was an anime since there is naruto that's why I search it at Google and RUclips bc it kinda interesting..but I don't get it why this get 1st place while naruto got 3rd place bc naruto dance was amazing tho that's why I'm confused...And now I'm 13 and when I watched it again I finally realised why its 1st place..It broke my heart and that's why I prefer this over naruto🙂

Their choreography has a full impact by story telling and graceful performance so it deserve to be in first place because it depends of the theme of their culture...
And some Chinese normies hates the Japanese culture but never forget the Chinese(and other Asian countries) got a trauma against Japan during WW2... I don't know about the Chinese people what really exact happen to them, but same here in my country but we accept the pain in the past...
It's better to deserve the winner and also it's their own decision of the judges... It's a fair competition so be it and not to bash them, so respect please...

Love Naruto, but this had me crying through the end it was amazing! Definitely 1st place material. The Naruto one was a bit random like why did you bring Rock Lee and Killer Bee into the story telling? Made no sense to add such random characters other then for gimmicks. But this performance had raw feelings and it showed in the way they were dancing. Good on the judges for seeing how amazing this performance was and not letting the audience influence their professional decision.
All the weeboos mad as hell O-Dog didn’t win. They don’t just judge based on how hype the audience was. They judge based on the skills, cleanness, and not just, “Oh, they are performing a dance inspired by an anime that everyone knows they should get first place.” Not saying that O-Dog were bad, their performance was amazing, but for the people saying it was boring, or, it didn’t deserve first place, you don’t understand anything. It’s about the time when Japan attacked and invaded China, which was a tough time for China, and these guys performed absolutely AMAZING.

You cant compare anime battles vs The Second Sino Japanese War 1937. Besides, Hello dance performance is far superior than O-dog.
People who wanted Naruto to win: "It was soooo much better! They had video! And my favorite anime! Oh-god the music was amazing (clips of naruto music). They put so much effort into it.
People who don't know what Naruto is: "Personally I just thought it was a bunch of weabs waving their hands around. Like, what was the point of any of that?"
Actual Dance Judges (whether they've seen Naruto or not) in response: "The Naruto one was neat, but honestly a large portion of their performance time was just them running around with their arms behind them or clips of videos. Hello Dance may not have had as many 'flashy visuals', but the dancing, timing, and all-around performance was far superior, and last time I checked, this was a DANCE competition that allows you to spark your creativity... Copying a show and making a bunch of references is nice and creative, but they made a "prop" of some wolf that looked really nice, and all they did with it was just wave it around and show it off for a couple seconds. They put all this effort into props and cosplay/outfits, but then end up skipping on the actual dance, with only brief intermissions of them waving their hands in quick-sticcato motions. In some parts, it looks aesthetically pleasing, almost like they have an actual rhyme or rhythm to it. In other parts they just look, pardon my french, retarded. To add insult to injury, in the parts where they would focus in on one or two guys dancing, all the other dancers are doing just basic, generic and bland dance moves. Of course, they are not the main focus, but if you are just going to have them there for one or two scenes, whats the point of having 30 people on the stage? The Hello Dance group clearly had different people performing different moves that were coherent and told a story throughout the show, while the Naruto one was clearly lacking and told a story that only people who have seen the show could even get a remote sense of enjoyment, otherwise the people are just staring at people making weird hand motions, a bunch of people dressed up as ninja's, and a fox thing they built just for a solid 5 seconds of the screen time, where it's just there for a reference, like the other 50 things they pulled. I think they would have done far better for a prop competition or a movie rather than a platform for dancing. Hello Dance is clearly the winner, not by miles, but large enough for all of us (the judges) to agree its better than O-Dog, no offense."

Yes, I am a fan of Naruto, but that dance was AMAZING! They haved more music variations, more effects, more characters and more dresses. They even putted emotional moments in the series, they brought characters that we love. O-DOG deserved the 1st place!
I loved the Naruto dance because I am a fan that saw those beautiful 15 years of it and I understand whats the meaning behind all that effort. Even the public was screaming and surprised with their job. THE PUBLIC SELECTED NARUTO AS THE BEST DANCE THERE!
If I were a judge, I will not consider which one had the best steps or technics, I will consider the one that wins the public because that is what it means, to make everyone enjoy what you are presenting!
The other dances of course has AMAZING and GORGEOUS dancers, but they didn't excited that much the public as Naruto. I understand that they are showing rough times between China and Japan, but sadly not all the people knows the story behind it, Naruto is one of the most famous anime series in the world, even my grandma recognize Naruto in Hottopic 😂.(she thinks all of them are Naruto ._.)

This dance really told a story. I understand how they got 1st place.
Amazing. I love how they presented the story through their dance. I think having that many dancers on stage will pose a risk that the audience might not be able to know where to focus their attention. But despite that, it was wonderfully choreographed to highlight where they want the audience to focus on. No case of too much going on. Also, even during the time only two dancers were left on stage, it didn't feel empty. This deserved its first place, it's an art.
O-dog did great, but heres why they didnt place first.
1.) there formations and choreagraphy were extremely simple . for instance when they brought out the nine tails they stood on stage and wiggled the tails and that was it. O-dog could have done more choreography or something else with the nine tails. O-dogs formations were ok but very centralized ; they didnt use their spacing as well as they could have.
2.) O-dogs transitions were very slow . esspcially when it came to the madara scene.
3.) their Theme wasnt unique and the story they were trying to sell wasnt clear.
4.) there techniques and movments were not clear or precise.
5.) O-dog scnychronization as a team was also unbalanced. some of the dancers moved alot faster then the rest of the team.
6.) their level of difficulty dance and music wise was also not as hard as their previous dances.also O-dog could have added some other dance styles beyond hip hop. there music was also veey straight forward. they also lacked in stunts ,and signiture moves.
O-dog is a great dance crew, but their dance did not show or highlight O-dogs full potential. they also had alot of minor things that deduct their points. o-dog wasnt reallt trying to win
ThaoKristopher I have to disagree with the synchronisation. Rewatch the Akatsuki part again. Their timing was spectacular. Though their transitions could of been a bit more seamless. This first place performance had very beautiful parts, but they also did suffer from a bit of unharmonious movements.

Better Technicality and much cleaner choreography and execution. O-Dogs just used the Nostalgia and hype factor. It was a good one but not as good as this one.
O-dog dance is too simple. Its not easy to dance without song, like Hello Dance did with background noise. Beside you cant compare anime battles against The Second Sino Japanese War (vs China).
