    Great video. Very clear. Made me confident I had the right approach in what I'm trying to do, however I've still not got it to work. I'm trying to make a Mac Studio on my LAN be a web server, but it's behind a Zyxel EX5512-T0 running firmware V5.70. The router has a static IP. It's GUI looks almost exactly like yours. I thought your answer about possibly needing to change the ports being used by the Zyxel's own interface might have been the final piece of the puzzle, but I'm still not able to get to my server from the internet. (I can get to it on my LAN using its DHCP-provided address; I'll give it a static LAN address later, but this DHCP-provided address is proving stable for now.)
    Before I gave new, special ports to the router's interface elements, going to my domain name (DNS mapped to the static IP of the router) would actually show me the Zyxel's login screen, which I was planning to solve later, but thanks to your comment is solved now. However, now trying to go to my domain name just hangs. Even though I've created two NAT port forwarding rules, covering the entire possible port range, except leaving out a port the Zyxel system has reserved (7547).
    One difference I noticed between your software and mine is that the "WAN Interface" menu is populated very differently, containing only "Default" and "OCT8", that I created (on Oct. 8, natch, though I may have tweaked it after that). It's of Type Ethernet, and it doesn't look like I can change that, at least not with the "General" switch switched on. This is in the settings you reach via Network Settings > Broadband. All of which leads me to wonder if you created the other "WAN Interface" menu items... "VDSL", "ADSL", etc., and whether I must do the same to get port forwarding working correctly? Is that possible? Any info online about how to create those (and why--I'd like to genuinely understand)?
    Thanks for any info, and a great video.

      Well I'll be darned. I got it working, and your observation about freeing those special ports was one part. You do that under Maintenance > Remote Management. I now have to add a wacky port number when I want to log into my router, but that *should* be an infrequent thing. (So I'd better write that magic port number down somewhere!)
      Part two also came from observing your video. It's that "WAN Interface" menu selection I was wondering about. I was leaving it at "Default", which results in the port forwarding rules you create doing NOTHING. Great default. All I had to do was select the WAN Interface I'd defined and saved over in Network Settings > Broadband. It was right there in the menu, but I figured, hey, "Default" should pick whatever policy is currently running. Wrong.
      So my almost entirely pointless personal webpage is back on the air, as is mutualinfo.com (which some people have actually told me is useful).
      Thanks again for this excellent video, and for your responses to people's questions. They solved a real head scratcher for me.

I have full fibre (1GB fibre optic connection) and for my "WAN interface" i have the options of "Default" "WWAN" and "ETHWAN". Assuming either Default or WWAN should work? is there a prefered one?

    Hi, Well done on the vid. Normally when I did port forwarding, I would have my external ip address plus :8086 for example. This translates to :80 inside and pointing to the internal nas server. This does not seem to work on the Zyxel, would you know why?

    • @spiderlan4886
      @spiderlan4886  2 года назад

      Hi, thanks for the comment. It may be because the http management port of the zyxel itself is using port 80 so try changing that to something else and re-test

      @@spiderlan4886 Hi, I found out the issue. The ISP actually has port 8080 blocked as hackers tend to use that, also, my NAS server does not use port 80 internally, it uses 9000, so both of these issues caused the problem. It's now been sorted, cheers.

    • @spiderlan4886
      @spiderlan4886  Год назад

      Hi, this video is for ports that need opening from the internet to your internal device, wouldn't have thought that's needed for a games console but if so can you be more specific on what you're trying to achieve?

    • @ahtopalian
      @ahtopalian Год назад +1

      Many thanks for the video! There’s not a lot out there on setting up port forwarding for this device so it’s really appreciated.
      I have a similar question and might be able to give more information on the OP.
      Games consoles like the Xbox and PS recommend port forwarding for a better connection to the internet. Right enough, they ask that you open multiple ports for both TCP and UDP.
      I’ve tried doing this but after setting up the first port I don’t seem able to create another others. From what I can tell (with what very limited knowledge I have around this sorta stuff!) it doesn’t let you create entries that use the same value in the “Server IP” field- which in my case is what I’ve been entering the device’s IP address into and is probably not what I should be doing…
      Any advice would be super helpful!

      @@RJ-x not a silly question. The LAN (Local Area Network) cable plugs into one of the ports labelled 1,2,3 or 4 (depending on how many ports there are on your particular router) and the other end of that into your PS4. Your WAN interface is whichever one connects your router to the internet. If you have broadband/fttc it is usually the vdsl but this is dependant on your location and internet provider.
