You are talking the truth. I’m about to open a flower shop, not on a hopeful whim, but given a lot of thought and prayer. As things unfold the investment costs, municipal fees, floral supplies inventory: vases, fresh and faux flowers, the monthly lease expense and maintenance, utilities including water, Wi-Fi, insurance, building sign, floral refrigeration, interior decorums, window and table displays, my work station, customer service counter, etc. most of which is on “credit cards” or small business loan, I’ll be working my tutu off at my craft, that I love - might I say, just to pay all the bills!😂 💸 But, I already figured as much. In time, optimistically there will be profit. I have some amazing ideas for my shop and online order designs. I’m not gonna sweat it freaking myself out about what if it flops financially before I even give it a try. The risk taker I am within says go for it! In the town I live in there will be little competition because my designs will be original, custom created not FTD. I should be able to jump on the events and sympathy sprays wagon too. I think…, no, I know with God’s help who made all the beautiful flowers on the earth that we simply adorn, I will be successful🎉 AS I FOLLOW YOU, thank you for all of your experience generosity and tips! I am indeed learning from you😊
I love your GO GETTER mindset. You are going after what you want and that is so awesome. Starting out can be intimidating at first however it's so important that you go in with a positive mindset. You ARE going to make this happen and you WILL be succesful. I'm glad that my videos are able to help you along this journey and I can't wait to hear how everything goes! 🎉🙂
Totally agree. I shut my shop and moved home/online 3 years ago.I have found all of the above.Less sales but bigger value. Its a no brainer - onlines where its at.
Hi Jessica! I'm glad you are finding my videos helpful. I have a few videos on where you can begin when it comes to setting up a website. I farm flowers but also want to offer floral arrangements, I need to order flowers in off season and don't know how to literally start!? Mothers days is coming, would like to offer bouquets but I have no idea how much to buy. I don't have pictures to offer to put out to order from so it feels really awkward but need to start somewhere!?
It's totally normal to order from the wholesalers when there ain't much happening on the farm. I'd definitely recommend ordering in a few bunches so you can create your first photos for your online catalogue. That makes it so much easier for customers to get a sense of what they're buying and helps get orders 🤩
I'm guessing you are not opening a retail outlet in BC anytime soon. Does your online business still work with your new location or do you have to reinvent it again?
No plans for a retail outlet anytime soon... but you never know. That's the best thing about being an entrepreneur we get to change our minds whenever we want. 🤣🤷🏻♀️
@@LittleBirdBloom I decided a long time ago a home office is the only way to go. I live near our downtown on a busy road so everyone knows where I am anyway, especially with the signage.
As soon as you gave the Salary for a shop assistant (non floral expert/florist) at $65K/year, I had to stop the vid run down stairs and tell my husband this insanity! Where I live, Outside of Seattle WA US, an individual must make at lest $122K per year to afford a one bed apartment and live comfortably! Previously I was a professional and without 25 hours of overtime each week, I would only have made $55,140 per year for a crazy stressful job (they were the type operation that had a net profit of BILLIONS but couldn't afford raises over 2%... I should say that the first thing I thought about when watching this vid is - "how would I afford to pay someone a livable wage or multiple part time students a more than competitive wage to retain them?" I will be that employer with nothing in order to make sure my employees are taken care of before I am...
