Ajmal santal wood. If you have ever visited a temple in tamil nadu, there are so many aromas I the air. Sandal wood, flowers, rose water, turmeric... it's just so divine! I was amazed when I sniffed ajmal santal wood edp. It captured that smell so well and accurate! Great job by ajmal.

hats off to you nikhil , in my humble opinion you have already surpassed all reviewers out there on RUclips in terms of sharing so much information and love of fragrance with general public. you have created a niche for yourself where it is impossible to beat you in knowledge . i can just wish I can I have an olfactory talent like yours to sample it all and feel all the nuances of perfumes out there and then such effortless communication skill to make us feel as if we are experiencing the same. thanks a lottttt bro 👍
You surprised me with that intro-you have a great voice mate! Sandalwood has always been my mainstay so I'm excited to smell some new things soon. Thanks for the quality content!
Wow! You have a very nice voice 🙂, great intro! Thank you for all the information about my all time favorite note. I'm interested in smelling the real Mysore sandalwood, it must smell heavenly. The closest experience with it is from a retro bottle of Samsara.
Sandalia by Swiss Arabian very pure smelling sandalwood. Sandalia gives off a very clean ,musky & creamy fragrance. My favorite 'commercial' sandalwood, by far.
Dear bhai. What is the website for cauvery emporium? the only one I could find is www.cauveryhandicrafts.net/. Is that the one? Did you try Islamabad attar from AKAF? I read its very close to Mysore sandalwood.
Great review Nikhil! Appreciate the love on my Sandalwood oils and Attars! I hadn't thought about it...but I guess I am pretty much the only Attar maker in the Americas, aren't I? Haha Always love your reviews and your bright and sunny disposition - keep sharing the love with all of us!! Many thanks!JK
Cool to see you here! I have been learning from Nikhil a while, and reading about Rising phoenix on Claire Vukcevic’s attar guide. Just ordered oud samples from Ensar, and now I will order santal samples from you
A wonderful in depth review and explanation regarding Sandalwood. May I ask for your opinion regarding Ormonde Jayne’s : Black gold ? Thank you for enriching our/my knowledge 🙏🏻
what's up brother, nice video as always. I myself is trying to learn about sandalwood, and have some in my collection. Oud wood by Tom Ford is the only sandalwood fragrance I own, and it's amazing, very creamy and smooth. bro the link you posted for Mysore oil from cauveryhandicrafts.net is temp down for maintenance, and cauverycrafts.com don't have that pure Mysore oil.
What a beautiful voice u have my brother. I’m sending you a hug and love from NYC. I too adore sandalwood. Thank u so much for suggesting Best sandalwood. I’ve been hoping to find somewhere to buy Mysore. And no Richwood doesn’t have Mysore anymore. Xerjoff has replaced it with patchouli. They finally admitted it. Richwood hasn’t contained Mysore since before 2012. I wish I knew about good perfumes back then. I was just getting into niche and Tom Ford and Creed were the only perfumes I liked
Well done and very informative. Do the false Sandalwood scents usually smell 'soapy' ? Lately that is all I've been sniffing when it comes to essential oils so I've just stopped searching .You have many places listed below where you mentioned one can find a pretty good 60 - 70% real Sandalwood scent. Which one was it ?
Exotic Scents : I will do that. You are so helpful. I've always had an interest in fragrances and the stories they tell or memories they bring back. Also have created a few 'oil only ' mixes for my own use and wore them to a small gallery opening, just smaller stores so people are closer and the scent of my oil fragrance can really fill the space. The owner of a bookstore went a bit wild one time -he started yelling who is that! Who's wearing perfume? What is that wonderful scent in here! ? I went up to the counter and told him I think it's me...Then he wanted to know where I bought it because he's never smelled anything like it. So I told him I made it out of different oils. Only problem with this one is I needed something fast so no measuring was done and didn't write down oils I used. So of course this fragrance which, to my surprise, ended up being one of my better creations...is completely lost. It is GONE. Such is life. ~☆
Nikhil!! What a fabulous singer you are! For sure, you are a Renaissance man! You are talking here about my #1 favorite note! I prefer the essential oil over all the perfumes that feature it. (I am too ashamed to say how many that is!!) The Ozzie tree is a different species. It is also lovely, but as you say, cannot beat Mysore sandalwood. The Ozzie one has almost a lemon type smell...not strong, more of a suggestion and it and it does dissipate. (At least in the ones I smelled.) I have a special aged Tamil pure sandal one that breaks my heart with its beauty. Ah!!
I liked your singing very much. Your voice reminded me Jackie Chan's voice, who is also a great singer. Of course, many people do not know him as a singer. Now, I see Diptyque deserves phrase in your community. I have never smelled any fragrance from this house yet. I would like to test sandalwood, Oud Palao and so on
I appreciate all your explanations about the perfumes, have discovered your youtube channel last year, and you are pure reference works :), I wonder if you can tell about the best cheap fresh+soft oud perfumes ?
Great video Nikhil on the olfactory delight of sandalwood. I would really like to see a video review of the best sandalwood oil on the market today accessible to us here in North America. Thanks bro!!😃✌👍

you are a real multifaceted guy Nikhil. Excellent video... I'm watching yourChannel grow into the most informative of all the RUclips Fragrance review Channel... just awesome
I've only experienced Australian Sandalwood. Even then, I find that it can be a complete perfume in itself - very contemplative and meditative and a bit tangy. Its amazing how long its last on the skin (diluted in carrier oil of course). I heard from a blogger (that i trust) that Neela Vermeire's Trayee contains real Mysore sandalwood. If thats true, thats my only point of reference for what Mysore sandalwood roughly smells like. I also have a few of Sultan Pasha's attars but the stuff is so complex i probably couldn't pick out the sandalwood from the other base notes. Sadly, I've never had a chance to smell the real Mysore sandalwood oil. I've never tried the EDP of Tam Dao before. The EDT smells like the wood shavings to me, is the EDP different?
Been 4 years since the comment, did you get a chance to smell the real sandalwood? I am from India and as Nikhil Bhai says, have been smelling it at various places since we were kids. It's used a lot here. Although we have smelled it many times, I can't say we have smelled the best grades. Since it's so expensive, not everyone probably uses a good grade. And as he mentions, it's also largely restricted now. To me, it smells partly like Vetiver. Like hay. Both are sweet but I find sandalwood to be more creamier and milky. And if you haven't come across actual vetiver, that too is a perfume in its own right. And that too is abundant in India. Also, the vetiver used in modern perfumery is from Indonesia etc cause it's a cleaner note. The wild vetiver in India has other facets like cool earthy, dark, spicy etc. The cool facet is why it's used in drinks and coolers here during summer. And I'm not sure if you know this, but a piece of sandalwood can be rubbed on a stone with some water and you can get sandalwood paste and applied on skin. (Has a very cooling and calming effect.) The wood is that soft. I've always found that amazing.
Hey Nikhil, I'm affraid Cauvery sandalwood oil in not available anymore at the moment. Do you have any other suggestions for pure Indian sandalwood oil?
