In my opinion , he was not going for visit purposes only. He told the immigration officer he didn't know anyone in Japan, and later in the story, his friend was waiting for him, interesting. Visited Pakistan before going to Tokyo another Red flag. We need to be truthful and honest, Honesty is the best policy.

when i travel to japan i stay in Tokyo live in place Shibuya. i went over there with friend. as i am French nationality holder. i can stay 90 days without any problem, was Narita airport.they didn't ask me any single question just while when i pick up my baggage immigration officer came ask me how many days you will stay. i said 1 week, then he said OK then he step out.
