  • This event began in 2013 with a recognized need to acknowledge and thank the caregivers who work silently among us. You ask, “ What is caregiving?” A lot of us do not recognize our acts of kindness as caregiving. A caregiver is an unpaid or paid member of a person's social network who helps them with activities of daily living. Caregiving is most commonly used to address impairments related to age, disability, a disease, or a cognitive disorder. November is designated as National Caregiver Appreciation Month, a time to honor the people who give of their time and resources in the service of others. At any given time in the United States, it is estimated that around 50 million people are providing care for an aging family member or friend, or a loved one with a chronic disease or disability. Many of these caregivers, especially those providing care for a spouse or significant other, are singlehandedly managing the spectrum of caregiving, from transportation to medication management, with possibly no medical background or training. Those working in facilities or homes work tirelessly to enhance the quality of lives for those they serve. This event honors all of the caregivers in Wood County, Ohio in 2023. Those nominated are showcased in this video. The video showcases three categories of caregivers, Medical Professionals (physicians, therapist, nurses, STNA, care navigators, social workers), Agency Support Staff (volunteers, companion caregivers, housekeepers, dietary, salon staff, activity personnel), Community caregivers (those unpaid taking care of family, friends or neighbors) Congratulations to all of those nominated for making Wood County a great county!
