I salute all who are skilled enough to make their own wearables. As much as I enjoy quilting, sewing bags, pouches and baskets, beading and all other creative ventures, I just don't do well in attempting to sew clothing. I think it is a toss up between picking fabric to pattern or just don't want too. I must admit I truly enjoyed making my children's clothes.
The last and only dress I’ve ever made was in 1961 in Home Ec in 8th grade - and my Mom had to do most of the work. She made me dressed a good 30+ years ago but the only other clothing, etc. I’ve ever sewn was those wild shorts boys wore in the. 80s called Jams and several yesrs of aha,Owen costumes (which I have saved (our sin will be 45 next month!). I just don’t like sewing clothing but I admit to wanting to make me a few pairs of flannel pants like the ones I bought a few years ago! I cut up beautiful pieces of fabrics and then sew them back together - for quilts🫢😃
My son was the you boy in Music Man in HS and he told them I could sew. I then made 2 prairie dresses for the show. Very stressful. After that I never let anyone know I could sew. Just close friends and family. I am self taught and learned a lot from my mistakes. Thanks for all the tips.
I would like to suggest never cutting the original pattern. Your size may change and you will wish you had the original. I use large sheets of tracing paper and trace and cut the size I need.
I started a sewing notebook years ago and i refer to it all the time... Anybody who is starting to learn to see, i highly recommend this tip
