- Castle Leoch the 1745 Scottish Highland residence of the clan MacKenzie and is where Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall first fell in love with each other in the Outlander series. filming was done in and around Doune Castle, located in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
U can "FEEL" the history and lives within the walls. Just to look at the ancient stones grabs me.
jehrulew Erwin.. Just imagine if those walls could speak .. imagine the triumphs and tragedies they could speak of !!
I feel the same. Why is it? 🤔
Visited Doune Castle many years ago, long before the TV hype. Have a lasting memory of an unusual feature of the building - sadly not shown on the video - on an upper level (laird's bedroom) of a recessed "double bed" space cut directly into the stone walls, which would have had straw or rushes then furs etc laid on the stone surface to make a very comfortable and warm bed, sheltered by the enclosing walls from the cold winter draughts. Havent seen a similar feature elsewhere in other Scottish castles.
I would love to see that asset!
There is one at Dundonald Castle in South Ayershire
When you stood at any of the windows, did you ever think about those who stood in that very spot before you? And wondered what they were thinking while they did?
I love visiting old castles when we are in Germany, and yes I often find myself wondering about the lives of the people who lived in them. I wish time travel was a thing so I could go back and observe.
Needs tlc
@@jonnahofman1264 looks much better in person I thought
Francis Pavihi yes I was in Scotland my homeland last year and yes you do think about the generations before
I'm descended from the Earl of Moray (through a bastard child who ran away to the colonies). My kids and I visited Castle Murray (Moray) in Scotland a few years back. We wondered which of our ancestors had wandered those halls when they were in actual use. It puts quite a perspective on your personal history, knowing that your ancestors strolled those halls, participated in intrigue, etc.
Thanks so much....I can't afford that kind of trip, i'm so grateful there are those like you who will do the filming so we get to see that kind of beauty...!!!!
It's just crazy that all the well kept castles in Scotland were once a home and full of folk.
The history of Scotland is mind boggling , it is every where one looks , one cannot miss it it surrounds our nation , and will never leave our heart .
I hope it never gets ruined
It is really nice to see places not destroyed by developments. Someone tried to build close to Culloden and they were denied.
@@judithcovert7594 You should have seen it fifty years ago,as I did when I was young,it was virtually unspoiled. In the last forty years there have been many developments and much has been destroyed. To the best of my knowledge the Culloden development is going through To get a real picture of Culloden its worth reading the late John Prebble's book Culloden.Published about 1970. Alternativlly Dr Tony Pollards Book is a more recent publication.
Walking into the past, how incredibly humbling.
The history in them walls
I wish I lived in those days.
A harsh life is a rich life.
Perhaps you did
Doune Castle was built by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany (c. 1340 - 3 September 1420), a great grandson of Robert the Bruce. He was my 16th great-grandfather. It is indeed humbling to think my ancestors walked the halls of this castle.
Wonderful, moves to tears. I hope one day I can go visit the castles and Scotland in general. I love how they maintain the architecture of the middle ages.
Thank you very much for creating this lovely video AND for using my favorite music from the first season! This is the next best thing to being there in person, which those of us in the US can't do yet (i.e., travel). I'm new to this whole Outlander experience as I decided to watch the first season two weeks ago on Netflix while thinking "16 episodes - oh I'll never get through this!" The next thing I knew I reached the end of Season 3 a few days ago! Haha!
I just started watching Outlander on starz app on phone. Love this theme song. Cannot wait to watch all 6 seasons
I hope that people realize that several scenes from “Monty Python and The Holy Grail” were filmed there. Just sayin’.
When my wife and I visited in '07, I didnt realize that until my wife pointed it out.
So I had to go down the left side of the castle and see for myself. OMG tis true!!!
Sadly it was late in the day and the inside of the castle was closed.
Thank you for this tour of Doune Castle!! Wonderful!!
This is amazing! The history.... I have always wondered what it would be like to visit and walk through these places! I'm in awe....I know I will never be able to visit these far away places so thank you for taking me along! 😊❤️😊
I was just there yesterday half an hour away from Glasgow. Doune castle is a brilliant walkthru
Ah Castle Doune, a great example of medieval architecture and worth seeing. A wonderful Stewart castle, the same Stewart clan who married into my kin, Clan MacLeod. The village of Doune is beautiful and looks so picturesque and worth stopping into. Hopefully, I will get to visit this historically wonderful castle and learn more about it's history in the near future.
I love the music,it truly is an experience within itself....captivating and enthralling!Thank you for sharing this and allowing our spirits to peer into the windows of time...#OUTLANDERFANATIC!
Thank you very much for this beautiful video. I’m so glad to see it preserved so well‼️
It’s absolutely amazing. Those views are awesome.
This is also the filmlocation for Monty pythons `Holy grail`.
Wow I was from other side of the Earth but was amazed by the history of Scotland ,, because of Outlander and Scottish romance novel.
I’m impressed by the cleanliness of the place and the greenery outside when you look out the windows.
Beautiful and the music is sheer joy.
I’ve been there when we went to Scotland. I loved it.
An amazing place. We went there a couple years ago. Wish we could go back.
I’ve been to Scotland. My heart needs to go back. It is beyond words. ❤️. 🏴.
As the Scots often say, “Haste ye back.”
Benita Steffan yes a big part of my heart will always be in Scotland I emigrated to Australia 30 years ago from Scotland was home last year.

When we would go to castles or other historic places, my daddy used to Say, " if only walls could talk "
Thank you for the nice tour of this magical castle.
BONJOUR
Merci pour la belle visite de ce beau château .
Beautiful and the music is awesome ! So much beauty !
Thanks for making this. The narrow hallways would freak me out.
I don’t know why this makes me sad
It’s because you have some out of connection to Scotland. I always get overwhelmed with emotions with anything related to Scotland and it’s people. Love that place
Breathtaking. Thank you
My heritage! Thank you for sharing!
That was an amazing tour! Thank you so much
Goosebumps on opening song 🎶
I love this castle and the music is beautiful. Thku.
Stunning LOVE everything about it
it helps to see the way they constructed buildings cause it makes you think why they were built that way what could have had influence on how they built a building of that magnitude and size
This castle would be so cool restored to a family home.
All these beautiful castles in Scotland should be fully restored and be heritage listed for many future generations to enjoy and appreciate...
Fascinating!Aww the history behind all this.
Beautiful.. breathtaking
Nice video, love the music
Parts of Reign were also filmed in this castle if I am not mistaken...
I wonder what happened to the furnishings? Nice video!
I would LOVE to visit a castle

Thankyou for sharing.
Love music no taking just enjoying the castle!

I was there’s! The last November. It is amazing 😁
Xochitl Ramirez how much did it cost to go there?
Was there today, was so so cold !, I stay 25 min drive away :)
How beautiful...the history..❤️ I am Scottish...I am a Noble (Andrew)and a Gatt❤️💜
I hope everyone knows this is Doune castle, near Stirling,"castle Leoch" is actually fictional.
Thank you for explaining that. The title is misleading. This is an amazing place I will one day get to visit.
Thanks for that information. I've read the books and I thought the British razed castle Leoch to the ground.
Allan Cunningham the real MacKenzie castle is castle Leod
Beautiful!
Amazing 👏
chills yea.. its amazing.
❤how I love history. Jamie Matenga Blake (Mr James)❤
I GOT CHILLS!!!!
Amazing!
Captivating....🖤
If this castle wasn't exist
I can't tell u that now😊
Amazing
How cool. I wonder if anyone has rented the castle for weddings. Beautiful place
Loved from 3 years old Andrew.leslie.burton
Any recording film of Doune Castle? Thank you for this video.l
Wonderful place to visit and walk thru!!
Awesome ❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸
thanks for sharing it with us!
but please ... use a gimbal for phones and it is much smoother. Also don't do these fast changes, also if you want to show something catch it with the camera, count to let's say 5 and continue.
These fast and uncontrolled looking movements make you feel a little bit sick watching it
But it was great to see it - we love the series
My tummy was not happy after watching. Had to stop it.
While waiting for seventh season. Much obliged.
Was any of the interiors filmed in Outlander or was it just the exterieur then studio ?
Awesome culture
I’m a little confused. There’s a link to the opening song of the Outlander episodes, but not the haunting song that plays after. I prefer it much more. What’s the name of that song?
I want to go one day, how far apart is each tour is? is far ride
GOREGOUS🌹🍀💖
Muchas gracias.
Thank you!
Lindo e nostálgico!
A film By Shakey McCalister
Mate it’s free.. don’t like it go and pay $5000 to fly to Scotland and visit yourself.
@@hdee5615 been many times. ya wee daftie!
Hahahaha. Must’ve hit it hard the night before.
I just can't imagine living in a castle like this
I can LOL
Who performs the music?
As pernas do Rei de leoch são daquele jeito mesmo, na vida real? Ou foi truque de câmera?
wow
What's that flute-like instrument around 6:50? The video is amazing!
Low range (D,G etc) tin whistle.
Allan Cunningham Is it a pan pipe?
I wonder how my Scottish ancestors ( the Mackenzie clan) stayed warm in those big castles, fireplaces aren't very good for a heat source.
Is there a soundtrack for the music?
The soundtrack is from Outlander season one by Bear McCreary on Amazon Music
I’m pretty sure Reign was also filmed there
❤❤❤
Pretty sure this was my family's name that came here to America on my Scottish dads side...my name is Kinsey but records show it was changed several times.,
Mackenzie to kinsey
is that Nicola's home?
🧡💛💖❣️💝

Well, that was extremely frustrating. I think would have loved it if you'd just slowed down & talked to us about what you were seeing instead of the annoying Outlander music spinning the camera around quickly. But perhaps putting it on RUclips and sharing it might have been an afterthought
Too fast! There was so much to see and enjoy.
