I’ve gained such an appreciation for birds like this, the seriemas, and the shoebill stork over the years. Literally the closest things to dinosaurs that we still have, and it really shows when they hunt like this!
Thanks ToasterWeevil. They are very impressive birds and the demonstration shows that the birds have an instinct to counter the danger presented by the snake, even to the point of aiming its blows at the snake's head. I would love to see this in the wild in Africa. Thanks for watching, much appreciated. Best wishes, Rob

@@kathylesnewski5442 Hi Kathy, Thanks for your comments. This was not a man made set up fight. It was a man made demonstration of the Secretary Bird's inbuilt reaction to danger, in this case a python. The python was obviously a fake. This was part of a display by various birds of prey to raise money to help endangered species. Your other comment doesn't warrant a response ...
Hi Henry, it was an excellent hour of displays by various birds of prey to raise money to help endangered species. For me, the Secretary Bird was the star of the show. The python was obviously a fake but the bird is conditioned to attack it. I knew that these birds did this to snakes but I didn't realise the power in their legs. I will upload another composite extract of the other birds. The hawk conservancy trust is a really worthwhile cause which, like everything else, has struggled for funding in this covid year. Thanks for commenting :)
Haha, yes Dana, they do look like velociraptors :) Wonderful birds. Tx for watching the vid and taking the time to comment, much appreciated. best wishes, Rob
Yes a beautiful bird. We are going back there next week, so I am hoping to see it again. Tx for watching the vid Aiko and taking the time to comment, much appreciated :) best wishes, Rob
I’m wondering if this bird can fly, how do you keep from flying out of there? Are his wings clipped? Also this was a nice video to see. I love secretary birds as well as cassowaries.
I don't know if the wings are clipped but I doubt it. The Hawk Conservancy has a wide range of free flying birds which don't fly away - they know where they are fed! Tx for watching the vid and taking the time to comment, much appreciated :)
@@watts9992 Tx EW. I think the original query was whether that particular bird can fly or if it's had its wings clipped. We don't know the answer to that, but I would be surprised if it has had its wings clipped at the Hawk Conservancy. Tx for taking the time to comment.

No, it is a rubber snake. This was a demonstration to show the Secretary Bird's inbuilt response when it sees the dangerous snake. Attack is it's form of defence. No snakes were killed! Tx for watching, much appreciated.
That's horrible. To let a snake be abused and killed for entertainment. If it happens in the wild that's one thing but not for ahhh and ohhh's. Really think about it. Have some compassion

It's a rubber snake, used to show that the Secretary Bird recognises the snake as a threat. It's a demonstration, showing nature in action.
