    A story about asbestos miners in Witenoom, Australia. The town has since been abandoned and is closed off to visiting because of the numbers of workers/ residents contracting asbestos/ mesothelioma. The sugar refining company refers to CSR who had shares in the company at the time,but refused to assist the workers and their families

    You may be interested to also know the leader singer was the youngest president of the environmental foundation in Australia , he has been the environmental minister, education minister and has been a member of the Australian Labour Party. Peter has spent his life fighting for political issues that are important to him, all his song are about some kind of political issue, beds are burning is about Aboriginal land right. A great Australian band 😊

    I am about to see the Oils perform on their farewell tour (Perth dates were postponed due to Covid). I remember when they did a live performance in front of the Exxon Building in New York back in the 1980’s. Love that these guys have been giving the stuff you sign to government and big business since the beginning.

    "Blue Sky Mine" has the greatest harmonica work of all time for any rock song.... PERIOD! Peter Garrett did a masterful job. It also has to be said that this masterpiece belongs on the top 100 Rock Songs of All Time. It would be at the bottom of my list but on the list without question! Congratulations on a nice review.

    Yes, Midnight Oil are an Australian Band, one of the more popular Australian Bands of the 80s. An absolutely great live band. They were not big in the US. The biggest song in the US would be Beds are Burning, while it's a fine song, they have many better songs. Short Memory, Power and the Passion, US Forces. They had a strong political message in many of their songs.

    • @JohnCregoWorldMusic
      @JohnCregoWorldMusic  4 года назад +1

      I don't think many people here know them at all, which is a shame. It seems they have a rabid fan base though. They're my more popular videos. I like their willingness to change up their sound for each new album but you still know it's them of course, and they seem to always have something to say about the times we're living in.

      @@BeefGeneral Their early stuff was much better. The self titled, Powder Works, Place Without a Postcard, 10 -1 and Red Sails were the real sound of the Oils. Species Decesies was all some of their best songs. Pity it was an EP not a full album. Diesel and Dust was very hit and miss as a fan. I still have not figured out if I like it or hate it lol. Some good songs, but definitely not what was expected after Red Sails.
