- In part two of this episode from our Regency Renovation Project, we continue with the period staircase and hallway renovation. John cracks on repairing the stonework detail on the period stone staircase and reinstating it's details back to their former glory. His job includes a sandstone slab repair on the half landing where he demonstrates levelling a floor with latex. He then gets to work on repairing the stonework detail with Plaster of Paris.
A huge thank you to our show sponsors, MKM Building Supplies. We highly recommend you check out their website for all your construction material needs: www.mkmbs.co.uk
PLEASE NOTE: we’ll endeavour to answer questions and comments as soon as possible depending on our work schedules.

John you have the patience of a saint mate 1st class work buddy 👍👍
Thanks guys! 👍
Tedious work - I’ve had to reinstate an old staircase before that was butchered when turning into a block of flats. I have to say restoring stuff back to near original is so satisfying and uncovering things even if it’s not perfect it’s what gives its character in comparison to a new build that is all perfect…nice work as always! Great eyes for detail which is so nice to see instead of just bish bash bosh!
The level of detail is astonishing. The client is fortunate that you and your team are craftsmen and not slap-dabs just there for a payday. Your work is your signature.
Thanks for your kind words Noah 👍
Seen far too many beautiful old buildings butchered and ruined by so called 'builders'.This whole series has been a pleasure to watch. You should all be really proud of the work you are doing.
Great to hear you've been loving the series so far Andy, have an awesome week 👍

You should be on The Great British Bake Off with icing skills like that, John. It was a difficult transition that one. Nice job.
Thanks Bob 👍

Little tip, once you’ve got you shape use a soft paint brush and brush over with a fine filler, just finish’s it off nice and proper.
Well done John. You're doing a fantastic job. (your work on the stairs is pretty good too). Cheers.
Thanks 👍
Just love this channel and your work that is all. One other thing, all that’s missing is your own tv series!
Thanks for watching Andy 👍
Excellent craftsmanship, some of these old buildings are just amazing the only thing they seem to lack is the foundation.
Attention to detail is mega! Well done mate

What ever your getting paid, it's not enough! Top quality work as always!
Much appreciated Jonny! Have an awesome week 👍
Wonder how much this renovation is costing with such quality workmanship and attention to detail?
😆 I use the same technique fixing cast windowsills. Love those pointing trowels I’ve got a few of them. As good as that job can get without jacking up the floor up and risk causing more damage 👍🏼
Are you fitting a finished edge carpet?
Hi Karl,
The small tool is something everyone should have in their kit!
We didn't want to jack it up, as it would of almost certainly caused a lot more damage. That slab had been cracked for many years, and isn't going anywhere 👍🏻
There will be a carpet runner going up the stairs, it's going to look awesome when it's finished 👌🏻
All the best, John 😊
Or what you reckon about chipping away at the bottom bit then smooth over so you dont have the bulge... would that work?
@@eaminslim52 I know what you mean, but it is far easier to level the underside with plaster than to diamond grind the stone which would also weaken the slab and possibly cause more fractures.
good work again ,
Thanks again! 👍
What an incredible job, I’d love to do something like that, I wouldn’t like to try and price it or pay for it 😂
Thanks for watching Simon 👍
Cracking John. Simply lovleh.
Is plaster of Paris easy to work with. I have some old cornices to repair.
Hi Barrington Smythe
Plaster of Paris it is really easy to work with we purchased on line easiest way all the best with the cornice regards Tony 👍
@@BuildWithAE Thanks Tony
All in all looks decent, however this landing is a structural part of the building - wouldnt it be reliable and proper way to lift it up with hydraulic jack and repair it by installing any type of reinforcement. If theres crack has developed it only means something wrong with the foundation and crack will be appearing over and over again in some time. As an owner i would be a bit concerned that cracked slab hanging over my head lol. All the time.
Yes I agree, could have chanelled out the top and put rebar in and resurfaced the top🤔 but hey iam not an expert,
Hi Fname the slab moved when they probably did a renovation in the earlier years but to do anything else could cause serious further damage. The way they are built in you can’t Jack them up. There is a basement underneath, this is part of the old features. Sometimes you have to work with what you can, all the best Tony 👍
Who else watched this before Scott brown today?
