      @Historia Antiqua The majority of people who describe themselves as democrats agree with these policies. Now, I don't care if Obama says he is a democrat and does not support these ideas. What I care about is the policies that data polls show the democratic base wants and agree with. Obama or Peloci may not support these policies, but the democratic base overwhelmingly does. After all, Obama himself said he is a moderate republican.

Your problem my friend is that you are a wolf disguising in sheep's clothing.

    There is a really beauty in this...that a lefty like Michael Moore could appear with Margaret Hoover on a conservative platform like Firing Line and have a civil conversation. Ms. Hoover puts him to task on the Electoral College and potential misrepresentation through editing in his documentaries (which, I agree with, as a lasting record, can distort the context of time). She nails it - “we’ll just have to agree to disagree.” No screaming. No name calling. No canceling. No threats. That they find out they’re related, that he learns more about how significant Herbert Hoover actually was, and that they laugh and shake hands at the end...that’s where we need to be as a country. This is why I love this program. Glad I could re-watch this one here on RUclips. Great job, as always, to Margaret Hoover and the Firing Line team.

      Other countries don't have electoral colleges. They instead assign a certain region to an electoral riding. One region might have a population of say 100,000, the other 500,000. Yet there's a 1 seat up for grabs for each. This way rural communities that are spread out over large areas get fair representation (at least that's the idea). It's not perfect either, but you don't have some asshole making decisions for the voters, thereby going against their intentions. This is why the electoral college needs to be removed and replaced with electoral ridings.

    • @jamesfrangione8448

      Warp Speed Power If it truly makes things more representative, it’s a good thing. I suspect that’s what party politicians fear most, and that’s why it hasn’t changed. I like the way you think...it doesn’t have to be a choice between what we have today or simply doing away with it; there’s likely a more equitable third way.

      @@jamesfrangione8448 - I live in Canada, and elections are cast according to local ridings. Even European countries usually do it that way. Our MPs (members of parliament) are essentially equal to your members of congress. So you might have 3 or 4 different people running for MP (from different parties) in one local riding. Whoever gets the most votes is elected MP for that riding. Whether there are 50k or 250k people living in that riding. The person running for Prime Minister actually has to be elected party leader by their political party. In addition, he/she must be elected as an MP in their riding, otherwise they cannot be Prime Minister. When you vote you are voting directly for an MP (either existing or from a new party). Whichever party gets the most MPs elected can form a government and their selected party leader (assuming he/she doesn't lose their local MP election) becomes Prime Minister. Another thing to point out is that government leaders in Canada and most other countries cannot assign people to a minister position (what you call a secretary) unless that person is also an elected MP. A person like Mnuchin could never become minister of finance unless he actually ran as a local politician and got elected as an MP in his own riding. In essence everybody in Trudeau's cabinet was elected by the people, not hired by the Prime Minister from outside.

    The problem with the electoral college is that living in a state where there are fewer people makes your vote count more. Why should one guy in Wyoming or Delaware have his vote be worth more than 50 peoples vote in California or Texas? Then when Trump gets elected with 3 million less votes, those 3 million people were cheated because a few thousand in the low population states voted for the clown. 1 person, 1 vote, no matter where you live. Also DC should be a state, it has more people that Vermont and Wyoming.

    The " sewage sludge " and wastewater released into the farms and agriculture land are spreading brain disease far and wide every day.
    DR . Claudio Soto, PhD, professor of neurology at the "University of Texas" Medical School in Houston, and his colleagues confirmed the presence of prions in urine.
    Soto also confirmed that plants uptake prions and are infectious and deadly to those who consume the infected plants. Therefore, humans, wildlife and livestock are vulnerable to prion disease via plants grown on land treated with sewage sludge and reclaimed sewage water.
    "Prion" and Virus researcher "Dr. Joel Pedersen ", from the University of Wisconsin, found that prions become 680 times more infectious in certain soils. Pedersen also found that sewage treatment does not inactivate prions. Therefore, prions are lethal, mutating, migrating and multiplying everywhere sewage is dumped.
    “Our results suggest that if prions enter municipal wastewater treatment systems, most of the agent would bond to sewage sludge, survive anaerobic digestion, and be present in treated biosolids,” Pedersen said.

    He traveled around the country speaking to audiences to promote the companies drug line. Being a good doctor, he also interjected what he knew through his own observations. He wondered why birds and turtles lived for many years longer than most humans.
    The conclusion was that they ate fruit, vegetables, nuts (seeds), and grains. When he started to speak about how eating healthier can, potentially, fend off the need for medicine - he was fired by this company. It was a real eye-opener for him as to the underhandedness of Big Pharma. They do not want doctors telling people how to avoid the need for drugs for as long as possible. Truth.

    MH appeared out to get MM. The section with Charleston Heston a prime example. His most famous NRA quote is the dead hands bit and at the time the NRA played it up. Without trying I've seen it a half a dozen times at least. And MH had NEVER heard of it? Yeah. For CH and the NRA to go to Denver barely ten days after the shooting was (and is) appalling.

    She's pretty slick, but Michael Moore knows of what he speaks and he speaks truth to "beauty". I think Michael handled that "interview" really well and got a lot of points across.

    I honestly thought when watching Bowling for Columbine, 20 years ago that Heston had said the from my cold, dead hands, less than two weeks after the Columbine massacre and I remember finding it such an insensitive, callous and crude comment to make in a state where a few days earlier so many young kids had been killed or maimed.
    Now I find out he did NOT say it. This is where quotes must be connected to the specific date and time they were said. Not weeks before or months after, and inserted into a clip.
    While I like Mr. Moore's work I must confess it troubled me when a few years ago when he was going through a divorce we learned he was worth millions and owned a mansion and other homes, which is not blue collar, common man.

    I admire Michael Moore, but I disagree with his stand on eliminating the Electoral College. Whatever the intentions were for the establishment of the Electoral College, it does serve the function of slightly mitigating a tyranny of the majority. The Founders were very eager to prevent too much concentration of power in any branch of government; thus they created 3 branches (i.e. the judiciary, the bicameral legislature, and the executive) as well as an elaborate system of checks and balances. Democracy was not uppermost in their minds. In fact, many of them (with good reason) feared democracy. Obviously, our system of government has evolved remarkably since 1787. We can improve on the electoral college by pro-rating the number of electoral college votes a candidate gets (as occurs in Maine and Nebraska). This would have to occur at the state rather than the federal level. We can also outlaw faithless electors. In any case, it is important to recognize that the Founders conceived of the nation as a Federal Union. Even in the 1820's, people, both north and south, regarded the union as a confederation rather than as a fully consolidated nation. Obviously, this all changed after the Civil War.

    • @joanblond8527
      @joanblond8527 4 года назад

      @@babyloans It helped by making the country realize that huge parts of the heartland have become de-industrialized by globalization. At the least, we should have empathy for these people. I have no answers to the problems these people are facing. I also have no answers to climate change. Obviously, Trump is a bad guy and should not be re-elected. I'm 76 years old and feel like an obsolete dinosaur. I've managed to scrape by in life due to a number of lucky events. The important thing is to honor the law and the Constitution and to avoid extremism. I abhor violence.

    • @babyloans
      @babyloans 4 года назад

      Joan Blond it has also allowed the executive branch (which wasn’t chosen by the people) to take control over a stable country. They’ve managed to maintain the senate hostage and now most likely be able to fill the late Justice RBG’s position. So if nothing changes drastically on November 3rd all three branches might be controlled (taken over) by “republicans”. That doesn’t include the large amount of judges that have been confirmed by the senate in the last 3 1/2 years. The electoral college is responsible for the mess we’re in. I am in favor of getting rid of it or making it less influenced by $$$$$. I’m not a fan of Hillary but I’m sure it would’ve been a little less chaotic right now. I’m afraid that we are facing a 2016 repeat and we will have to suffer a lifetime of Trump. If he takes the 2020 (I didn’t say win) it’ll definitely look like his kids will inherit the kingdom once call United States of America 🇺🇸. I definitely hope I’m wrong and on November 4th we can say Trump will not be the president in 2021.
