    A question that often pops up for me when I'm watching videos on YT is why can't you focus the camera then put the bloody thing down, on a tripod, stuck on a lump of blu tac, wedged between two heavy books, anything but these out of focus shakey films with you trying to do everything with one hand!! How on earth Andrew Wilson 4 years ago could say thank you for a clear and concise and easily understood explanation beats me!

    Hi Sam,
    I have been trying to find one of these universal European washing machine motors for a long time. I live in the US and all our washing machines are powered by boring split phase induction motors, all 1725 rpm 4-pole. I estimate the rpm of your motor, when you ran it, to be well over 10,000...I have a large step-up transformer (overkill for its use!!!) 120-220VAC to run my antique British Veritys electric orbital fan. It should easily spin-up one of these big motors!! Thanks! Fred

    Good vid. Anyone who is wondering on how to control the speed of one of these, use a Variac. Cheapest simplest way

  • @MarkTillotson

    This is wiring the motor as a series motor, which I'd be wary of as there is no well defined upper speed limit for series-wound motors and they are not supposed to be
    run unloaded due to the danger of overspeed disintegration.

    • @orcoastgreenman
      @orcoastgreenman 3 года назад

      Unloaded over speed disintegration is just an added feature. You’re just looking at things from too pessimistic a stance.

    You would need a higher ratted controller than a sewing machine pedal to handle the watts the motor uses. Have a look on ebay for motor speed controller or a variac.

    There is another guy who discusses motors like this but by far I like how you say things about dryer and washer motors as being universal no one seems to want to give the info
    For this I thank you
    Now my question to you since we established the type of motor can it run on DC at 12 volts and how to set it up
    Thank you

    Hi it would be very big help if you could help me with the
    following
    I watched your video is very good but my motor got 7 pin connectors
    and got a separate earth connection, I have eliminated the 2 wires coming from
    the speed sensor, but I am confused because there are 6 wires coming from the
    inside,
    Red & Black together, Yellow & Green together and then
    I got 2 thin blue wires could you please help me to connect this please
    The 2 thin blue wires comes from the front of the motor and the
    other comes from the back of the motor

    very good video, I was lookin for somethng like this,
    but do I understand it correctly that power goes first to the first brush (blue wire from power cable in your video) and the power returns to the electricty cable through a field coil in the stator. Then you make a jumper cable to bridge the second brush and another field coil.
    So power goes from the first brush through the rotor windings to the second brush and then through the field coils, and the field coils must be in series

    Sam, this is very helpful and what I am looking for. The motor i have (Maytag dryer) is slightly different, and perhaps you can steer me straight. 3 wires from the motor to the connector - blue, black and yellow. The connectors are numbered as follows. 2, 0, 4, 3, 5, and G. Blue is 4, black is 3 and yellow is 5. So, to connect up an external power source, to which open spades do i connect the 0 and phase 220 leads?
    Many thanks,
    Joey

    would it work without making that last bridge between the second brush and the remaining field coils? also are all the pins in the terminal in the same position in all motors? i got a bosh motor made in germany for example, should i be able to wire it just like this? all the seven wires from my terminal is orange.

    Motor draws too many amps for a light dimmer. Washing machines use a pwm board to control speed. A variac would be the simplest way to regulate speed.

    I have a Sole motor. It has 9 wires. I have identified the tacho and brushes wires. Then theres a bundle of them coming from the interior. They are GREEN, two WHITE, BROWN and BLACK. It won't turn. The motor looks new but i'm wondering if its broken. Do these motors often break? Please advise, as i would love to get this baby turning.

    • @expert1705

      Check the continuity between the wires if you haven't already, if there is no resistance that means one of the coils is damaged or the brushes don't have a connection to the commutator and the power source.

    • @jasonyoung6362
      @jasonyoung6362 10 лет назад

      Andrew is on the right track. You want to vary the power only to the stator windings, not the rotor windings. You could do this using a variac of a suitable power rating, or alternatively a triac circuit as found in light dimmers.

    • @londonnight937
      @londonnight937 9 лет назад +1

      Jason Young I think you should wary the rotor power, not the stator, because if you get to a low enough speed you can fry the rotor windings.

Specifications of 230 volts AC 50 Hz 3.4 amp 100 watts 2800 rpm, SOLE brands made in Italy and 7 cables in light blue, gray, orange, brown, black, red and white orange. I have checked prisoners light blue - gray = 63 Ohm, light blue - orange = 58 Ohm, light blue - brown = 63.1 Ohm, light blue - white orange = 18.4 Ohm, gray - orange = 84.3 Ohm, gray- ash - brown = 89.4 Ohm, gray - orange white = 45.1 Ohm, orange - brown = 84.4 Ohm, orange - orange white = 41.2 Ohm, brown - orange white = 45.9 Ohm, black - red = 27.4 Ohm / alarm sound. Can you help me to determine which connection is phase and neutral.

    The jumper then goes from the remaining brush to one of the remaining field coil wires, if there are only two coil wires anyway and you've used one of them already then how can there be 'one of the remaining coil wires'? There IS only one remaining so it's a no choice situation!
