Yes, when you luck at present day strongmen, they are of a similar build, real units of power, while a bodybuilder builds and defines every muscles. Compare them both in strength and stamina and you would quickly see that a bodybuilder has hardly both of it.

Depends on what you clacify as stong man. pulling weight? Martial art? general stamina?
The human body that can adopt and specialize to each depending on what you need.
For example. In Anchent Greece the ideal body was much more athletic since that helped you in the Olympic sports.

@@richardduska1558 It's not a runner's body, but it's a strong body. Do you classify athletic as being able to run, or being able to lift and fight. Perhaps a bit of both.

@@4dragons632 Well outside of that mixed martial arts and boxers also tend to have a very athletic body toon and they also need to have stamina since the fights can go on for a while.

52:46 Love the fact that Thor didn’t pour the drinks for himself and Kratos, but for Kratos and Atreus, since at this point in the story he’s actually trying to stop drinking. It’s a nice touch.

    • @ROFLproductionsCORP
      @ROFLproductionsCORP 2 года назад +48

I think he pours more into the second cup for both Kratos and Atreus, because he does use his own cup to wipe mead across his hammer. But you’re still right that he’s not drinking at this point, which is why he smells it so longingly. And also why Odin keeps gesturing for him to drink. He wants him to be drunk so he’s easier to control. He later tells Sif Thor started drinking again on his own, but from the first scene of them together he’s subtly trying to push him.

You know, while Odin was seen as a wise wizard, a poet, etc, he WAS also seen as like... a real shady guy. He almost feels like a villain at times.
Is that a product of the Christianization of the Poetic Edda and the active efforts of the church to make the pagan gods seem lesser? Maybe, but then why would other gods not get the same treatment? Many pagan gods were made out by missionaries to be in fact demons, but much more common, even within the Edda itself and not just the world at large, was to reframe them as saints or angels.
Additionally, many of the older myths that feed the common "Wild Hunt" or deathly procession folklore seem to have very strong thematic, symbolic, etymological, and theological connections to Woden, the germanic version of Odin.
So all in all it seems very likely that "creepy shady Odin", who you respect and revere but ALSO fear and mistrust, is a very genuine representation of the original mythology

Specifically, with Baldur, when he shows up, it's pretty much like, "Mate, fuck off, you scrawny little twig, before I smack ya.", but then, not only do you find out he can take every smack you give him, he can also potentially turn you into a gory paste, and won't stop until you give him the answer he wants (like father, like son).

Absolutely agree with what u said about Odin. He was not AT ALL what I expected, if anything, it's better. He walks in, picks up a stool cause he doesnt care its HIS now, sits down and preaches about which of Kratos' actions he'll arbitrarily judge, shit talks every single member of his family, drinks from both Thor and Kratos' drinks just to show he can and then tops it all off with talking in the way you'd least expect. He has SO MUCH passive power and you're forced to be subjegated to it until he decides he isn't gonna give you a chance and sends Thor to off you. I think it's kinda cool that Ragnarok made Odin a really skinny dude. He almost has mafia boss energy. It's stated in Norse mythos that Odin liked to steal the musculature from his enemies, both as a means to humiliate and a means to disarm. Because he primarily uses magic, and most of the Aesir's canon enemies use might, he can strip them of their only weapons while he keeps his. It's a nice attention to canon mythology while also providing a stark contrast to Thor and Zeus.

Odin sounds pretty cool, he sounds like a mob boss that stepped straight out of a Scorsese film, which kind of fits the profile of the character as he'd been built up in the previous game. Thor is funny to me because he reminds me so much of a friend of my family who's also a boisterous strong dude who gets scary quiet when angry and he used to be a really big guy like Thor is here. To make it even funnier, this friend of mine is even a self-described Heathen worshiper of Norse paganism. So, every time Thor speaks, I just see my friend.

And then Thor immediately goes "we've got a model father here", and it has a double meaning: he mocks Kratos for his fatherly advice, and lets him know that he knows Kratos just lied!

It is because the Rules of Hospitality require him to act in a certain manner, if he doesn't Kratos can kill him and Odin can't do shit. By their own laws and rules, he has to behave. The Rules of Hospitality as so fascinating because when envoked you *must* act in a certain manner, it is like studying the intricacies of politics.

    Video spoilers below:
Even in the first hour, the game already has two of the coolest scenes I've seen in years. Firstly, faking out the player with a death screen only to have a fourth wall break and "I'm not done with you yet." Secondly, having Mjölnir and the Leviathan axe clash right out the gate and making a frozen lightning bolt. God it's only an hour in and the game is firing on all cylinders. Also, really nice touch having Kratos call out for Atreus and then having him attack as the bear.

Much as I miss the streaming element, I actually really appreciate having this purely one way or the other. My favorite playthroughs were the days when Ritley would show the twitch chat and edit jokes off of them since the GOLDEN moments of humor were often you bantering with them. But leaving out the chat in youtube edits means also cutting out a lot of the best humor moments, so I've taken to watching the recordings on your twitch channel so I don't miss anything.
Having this vid as a purely old-style private playthrough is a nice change. Refreshingly less to juggle for your, without us worrying what jokes or reactions might be missing!
