Smart kid. Zevon was The Quiet Man of music. By now you are 22 and can see how intelligent, funny and real this man was. Carmelita is my favorite; that's canon type song writing.
My dad raised me with warren zevons music and I didn't appreciate it when I was younger but now I'm I bit older I get it,zevon was a fuckin genius,to this day I haven't come across anyone who can write nearly as clever lyrics,r.i.p warren,we may never see anyone as gifted as you again
In this man's opinion, Warren Zevon is the most prolific songwriter of my era. I miss him so much. His music gets me through the day, every day. Each song can relate to a particular mood. Talent that shall not be seen again. Enjoy every sandwich.
Listen to what he does in the middle of the song ! He uses a looper pedal and loops his rythem track and plays a guitar solo over it and then harmonized the harmonica with solo..and of course the lyrics !!! Ingenious
I don't think I've ever heard a Warren Zevon song without being so struck by some couplet or line that I swear and shake my head. This time, it was "... take my hand/and lead me through the world of self."
This is absolutely the best version out there. Warren is my heores. God bless him, it is a shame I never got to see him in concert. I too want to live like Georgia Georgia O'Keeffe, and never go down in the street.
What an outstanding performance of this great song! I only knew the Letterman-version - outstanding as well. One of the most underrated singers and songwriters, but still in our minds. Thanks for sharing with us.
Blaze it ! Splendid Isolation, wow.......those lyrics. He truly knew life and sang of it in all kinds of ways. I'm a loner and can relate to this song. But I love all his other works too. What a guy, what a human ! RIP......you ARE missed.
Im kinda they same way. When I was a kid I loved ware wolves but didnt get it then. Now Im soaking up all the Zevon songs I can. Way , way ahead of his time for sure.
There really can't be much of a dispute over the fact that he was vastly undderated. Most of that is on him as his illnesses had a giant hand in not allowing to him to reach the levels he should have while alive. His writing is on a whole different level than most artists and to this day still doesn't get enough recognition even if he is known more in death than living. The David Letterman clip probably gave him more publicity than any other thing he did, and that is kinda sad
This is from his show at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, Colorado on January 12, 1996. You can hear the whole show (and many more) at archive.org -- put "collection:WarrenZevon" in the search field.
wow, this is one of my favorites by him. make sure you check out the album version, which is a bit faster, both are nice. also, in reference to your r.i.p., this a zevon channel, come one we dont want to think about life and death. sarchasim sarchasim
P.S. On the 2 versions of this song, one is more upbeat, one is more harmonica related. Irregardless, just found out Georgia O'Keefe was more or less a southwest desert recluse artist.
I did realize there were two versions of this song......... one is more upbeat; but they're both SPLENDID ! p.s. Would someone please tell me why Georgia O'Keefe figured in this song? She was an artist in the southwest; but was she a recluse or something?
Sounds a little like Bruce Springstein, love Warren so much talent so little time to use it,love the song my shits fucked up when ever I'm down I play it & wala things are'nt so bad.
He said, "Michael Jackson, in DisneyLand, don't have to share it with nobody else, Come on Goofey, lock the gates, take my hand and lead me thru the world of Self."
I think that lyric on Michael Jackson has to do I think or as I remember when it was rumored Michael rented all of Disneyland for a day to have it all to himself. SPLENDID ISOLATION huh? Was a hefty sum of money I heard.
What the lyrics describe(in my mind)is the mentality of someone who has so much contempt for people as, somewhere along the line, they carried out a monstrously treacherous affront on the narrator-making that individual force themselves into self-exile. In that self-imposed echo chamber, they revel the delusion of self-reflection&social commentary; even though its really self-righteous indignation that rules the show&apathy, stomping like cloven-hooves,to raise a dust shield and noisely drown out any extraneous attempt to challenge this individuals increasingly misantropic worldview.
This assessment comes from someone whose been(and still very much is)there: locked into pessimism and the expectation of the worst from others... But the scars always curl and abate upon hearing this melodic account of a lonely individual so accurately portrayed in this amazing song that just cuts through all existential issues that dilute my outlook until it engages the core self(which, upon exposure - begs for realistic recognition.)
"Michael Jackson in Disneyland Don't have to share it with nobody else, Come on Goofey, lock the gates, < ( Goofey is a Disney toon character) And lead me thru the world of Self."
Huh - Mr. luismendez, isn`t he? Why didn`t he sell billions of records? Why didn`t he tour the world in sold-out arenas year for year? Because he had big, big problems like many genius unfortunately had. Simply check it out in google or somewhere else. Do you move on earth? No offense meant, lol.
@charger1970and68 michael jackson [is] in disneyland [he] don't have to share with no one else. lock the gates, goofy, take my hand and lead me through the world of 'self'... splendid isolation- i don't need no one else...
Mr. who is mistering me, and please don't do that because I hate it, in that aspect, okay, he was underrated. But he wasn't underrated like I don't know, great artists are underrated untill they die and 20 or 50 years later they are a big hit. That's what I meant ... in the viewpoint of what today success is (sold out arenas etc. as you mentioned) then yes, okay, I agree, he was an underrated musician. Just not to me. ps. none taken :D
Possibly the best version of this song that I’ve heard. Just brilliant.
I'm only 15 but I've listened to every single one of one his songs he is by far one of the best musicians of his time.

Still the greatest. Keep this mans legacy alive.

I love you Warren Zevon.........your songs haunt my daily activites and I suddenly find
myself singing them!
This song knows me more than I do. This is my life's unspoken tale. This is a lost soul's impassioned anthem.....Warren, want to see you soon...
This is absolutely the best version out there. Warren is my heores. God bless him, it is a shame I never got to see him in concert. I too want to live like Georgia Georgia O'Keeffe, and never go down in the street.

ONE OF THE GREATEST MUSICIANS AND LYRICISTS OF ALL TIMES!!! PERIOD!
This is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard in my life. Thank you for sharing.
Im kinda they same way. When I was a kid I loved ware wolves but didnt get it then. Now Im soaking up all the Zevon songs I can. Way , way ahead of his time for sure.

Man, that 12-string guitar is awesome. Thanks for posting this, and thank you, Warren...
this aged well
Actually a lot more than one hit quite a few I remember of his. And lawyers, guns, and money ppl still remember when reminded.
The 12 string gives it a depth that works incredibly well with the lyrics. Haven't heard it played like this before...
In True Zevon Style, the story of " Georgia O'Keefe " is fascinating!!!!!!!
RIP & Cheers for the insight Warren
:(
in our hearts and always on my mind and there are many sentiment here to share!!!
Never heard this particular version. Thanks!
A song very much for our times.
grate song ..thanks for posting .
Zevon FOREVER.
E-D
He should have won the Pulitzer for those lines alone.
This is from his show at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, Colorado on January 12, 1996. You can hear the whole show (and many more) at archive.org -- put "collection:WarrenZevon" in the search field.
my dad would play zevon when we use to go down to Dana point..
Love the 12-string guitar. RIP Warren.
A Real artist ; wish I was that real - I’m trying to be. Love you Warren the more I understand.

I wish I was there...Totally perfect...
Great song, thanks for posting.
Another 12-string classic...genius.
Amen, Rest in Peace and I hope you found your "Splendid Isolation"
The world seems alright, only when listening to this song.
wow, this is one of my favorites by him. make sure you check out the album version, which is a bit faster, both are nice. also, in reference to your r.i.p., this a zevon channel, come one we dont want to think about life and death. sarchasim sarchasim

My college tune 🤘🏽
This is not off "Learning to Flinch"... this is the first time I've heard this version.
Why did my Transverse City cassette tape have to go missing years ago?? This song brings back some good memories. RIP Zevon
buy the cd, has Neil Young singing the chorus w/him, and Neil did lead guitar on the title track- Sentimental Hygiene
rest in paradise, Warren Z.
Splendid......Isolation......
I always believed that Zevon was a bit of a madman, but a certifiable genius, as well. My favorite artist, bar none. I'm still sad that he's gone.
I'm so ignorant, I've loved this song for a few years & always thought it was a Pete Yorn original.
Silly me.
Genius…
Genius.
"Point men, isolatos, eye-shooters, name-takers, heavy rapers, classic American types..." --Michael Herr, 'Dispatches'
Terry's anthem.
He lived right.
By measure of his not having been able to make a decent living playing his music, he was underrated in his own time.
when/where was this version played? it's my favorite by far
I did realize there were two versions of this song......... one is more upbeat; but they're
both SPLENDID ! p.s. Would someone please tell me why Georgia O'Keefe figured in
this song? She was an artist in the southwest; but was she a recluse or something?
at the end, he gets into a similar sounding riff as that song 'stop rainin' lord' Anyone else feel this?
Sounds a little like Bruce Springstein, love Warren so much talent so little time to use it,love the song my shits fucked up when ever I'm down I play it & wala things are'nt so bad.
Where is this Live version from? Its better than off 'Learning to Flinch' IMO.
whats the live music archive website?
and is there a video for this showing him play?
He said, "Michael Jackson, in DisneyLand, don't have to share it with nobody else,

"Michael Jackson in Disneyland

G-Time Johnny brought me here!

what did he say michael jackson is?
No. "Like Michael Jackson in Disneyland; don't have to share it with nobody else."
@charger1970and68

Huh? Warren Zevon is not underrated, lol. You just move on Earth? :P
Apparently a one hit wonder.
That's because the music industry has a shallow pool of talent and many people prefer to listen to crap anyway.
God Damn you Beiber! One dislike isn't going to make a difference. Your a champ, Warrem.
