No matter how old that movie gets, I still like that Robocop 2 Theme the best 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎶🎶 The meledies are dramatic, that's what is so great about it. 🎵🎵 I saw this at the theater, I can listen to that soundtrack forever.
Honestly this theme rules. Robocop 2 isn't the greatest sequel (far from the worst) but composing an entirely new theme - and nailing it - was one of its best aspects. You just don't get memorable motifs like this anymore.
100% agree. The original theme is so iconic, for them to be able to cook up something nearly as awesome from scratch for the sequel is kind of a miracle.
I will go on record here; Robocop 2 is an OK sequel. It was a different style of film from the first. Problem is Alien-Aliens being different types of films worked. The lesson is DON'T go "more" Family Friendly. But, Robocop 3 proved that waaayyyyy more than 2 did!! 2 was not a bad sequel! I can happily sit through a Double Feature of Robocop. Anytime!!😎
This track is hymn of my childhood, cuz I had a VHS tape of Robocop 2, liked it a lot, today too. But I didn't have the first movie somehow. Awesome work!
@@GillesNuytens Well I definitely prefer the OG theme. But the way it sounds in the movie, yeah I think it clicks with the world. As in: it fits in. Especially taking in that "Kid Friendly Robo" arc.
Although I'm a massive fan of the original Robocop theme, but @ 6:52 this theme, picturing Robocop getting out of his blown to shit cruiser ready to dish justice is just bad ass!!
Ellen Murphy: Alex? Don't you know me? Don't you remember me? Alex, it doesn't matter what they've done to you. I... RoboCop: [leans forward] Touch me. Ellen Murphy: [touches his lip] It's cold. RoboCop: [referring to his face] They made this to honor him. Ellen Murphy: No , I... RoboCop: Your husband is dead. I don't know you.
I love this theme and can go with listening to it all day especially rn because idk I just have that feeling I want to and literally love the end credits to Robocop 2 ❤️ AMAZING ART WORK DUDE!!!
Rosenman does some interesting things with melody and counter-melody (see Star Trek) but for the Robocop franchise its all wrong, not a fit at all. Cool extended mix, though.
Rosenman's style just feels more suited for the 1960s and not the 80s. Poledoris was 20 years younger than Rosenman which I think gave the former a better grip on what audiences at the time wanted. I suppose he was busy scoring The Hunt For Red October at the time (1990) thus the director decided to go in another direction with the music. I think everyone knew what a mistake they'd made, as they brought back RoboCop's original theme for the tv series and number 3.
It's fine music but doesn't hit emotionally as hard as the Basil theme which is a masterpiece with all it's saddness, pain, determination and bombastic power. This sounds heroic but more in a cheerful lighthearted way, not far off from being comedic. It fits in the scenes when RoboCop is acting goofy from the re-programming but not in the rest of the movie.
@@zanelenene3288 This music is pretty shallow, basically just 6 cheefull notes played on repeat over and over, fitting for a sports news theme. Rest of the score is mostly just aimless elevator music. The original music is much more memorable as a whole. If RoboCop has no inner struggle, then he's less interesting as a character. In RoboCop 3 he was basically Adam West Batman.
Why should this movie, which is more action driven anyway, have a theme that conveys sadness? It’s Murphy demonstrating another side of humanity; heroism. It’s actually beautifully ironic that this theme is so reminiscent of an outdated spaghetti western, which are full of heart, and are being thematically used for the modern age, digitally coded supercop.
@@geminijim6655 I feel sad for you. You're the kinda guy who's listening to music but you ain't hearing it. All those emotional nuances just fly over your head.
Not surprised Rosenman is a veteran cause this quite different take got something less straight, more mature, which sadly doesn't fit the movie, wait, Poledouris will be back!! but for an awful kiddy trash product with a flying Robocop.....!!
Almost sounds Mahlerian to me. The exaggerated heroicism, the "sarcastic" sounding muted trumpets, the lush dream-like middle section, and unconventional instrumentation like the iron bars.
The first soundtracks of the Robocop movie were better. This music change has not been good at all. I have never loved and never will. (İn my opinion)= This music change had a bad effect on this movie series. Of course, the problem wasn't just the music. Old musics was returned to Robocop 3, but it was too late.
You are in the minority on that one Robo cop two was not the best sequel, but it was not anywhere near as bad as your making. It seem in the theme song is actually right up there with the first theme. In my opinion the music was not the problem with this movie, they were a bunch of other things behind the scenes, and it’s still turned out to be a pretty decent sequel.
