- Lingneechu is considered as a sacred mountain by the people of Dzongu in North Sikkim (India) because Lepchas from Dzongu believe that their ancestors were saved by this very mountain 🗻 during the time of flood , which submerged the whole of Mayal lyang (Sikkim) as per the folktale. But Lepchas from other parts of the world believe that their ancestors was saved by Mt Tendong Lho which is situated in South Sikkim. Lingneechu borders Upper and Lower Dzongu. This very mountain is visited by the people of Dzongu, mostly by those residing in Upper Dzongu. This picturesque mountain can also be seen from Tashi view point near Gangtok, East Sikkim
The best time to visit this mountain is during winter season (October to March). In order to summit this mountain one has to hike for 6 to 7 hour from a near by village called Lingthem in Upper Dzongu. There are three different route to visit this mountain, the safest route to hike is from Lingthem and Burfoke in North Sikkim.
In order to summit this mountain, an experience & skilled guide is a necessity as the route comprises of rough terrain with deep gorge. There were many incidences where people lost their way and had reached different locations.
As per the local belief people say such incidents occur because of the spirits which reside in this 🗻.
