For someone who has cooked up his turtle's eggs, this is not weird at all to me. If you want small eggs all the time, get some quails.
Did you eat the turtle eggs?
@@sodapets yes I did, thought it would be interesting.
@@clognog8049 how did it taste?
@@kanalzumkommentieren2169 like chicken
@@kanalzumkommentieren2169 like a dry chicken egg, because i burnt it
a good way to test if an egg is rotten before eating it is to put it in a cup of water. if it rises, its no good. its been building up gases from its decomposition. if it sinks, you should be all good.
although... those eggs are so small, they might float regardless 😅
That’s true I usually do that with chicken eggs
🥚
That reminds me of a time at school a girl found a bird egg in the playground and brought it in to see if it was still alive, in which case they’d try to incubate it so the bird could live. They were about to do the various tests to make sure that the egg was an actual egg and not rotten, and then the dropped it
It was not alive
And the entire hallway smelled of rotten eggs for a whole week because of that egg.
It sucked.

I would recommend selling your unfertilized Cockatiel eggs!
People who breed or keep amphibians have recently a hard time getting some smaller eggs for their egg eating snakes, you would help your local pet-keeping community really out with this!^^
I recommend this always to other bird-keepers, other keepers are gonna be really thankful for this!
That’s a good idea but we don’t have egg eating snakes in New Zealand so I don’t think they would sell
this it the best comment I've seen. xD 100% right and you were really smart to think of it! I actually forgot that some small creatures eat eggs too. It could even be a ferret treat! But I don't think they are fit for human consumption at all. Here in SA we get all kinds of animal related illnesses which usually stem from food consumption, example swine flu, *bird flu* and their variants too (1 gotten from food 2 gotten from someone else etc) but this is how those things happen. Better not to eat those eggs again. The eggs in the market are safe because the eggs also go through tests every few eggs to make sure everything is ok with the chickens in that area.
@@sodapets There are also some lizards i know that prefer eggs, but smaller eggs are always in big demand for breeders, because some babies can't eat bigger live food yet.

Haha...that was funny. I tried eggs from my birds too. I ate pigeon eggs, quail eggs, duck eggs, and even an ostrich egg! The ostrich egg was really hard to break open. They all tasted pretty much the same. Only the ducks eggs are the best..so creamy and make delicious poached eggs. The pigeon ones were strange and the white stays clear and transparent...I make boiled eggs from them and put them in a salad.
Wow! Thanks for sharing!
Duck eggs are the best. I wonder about goose eggs never had one.
@@farrierette5216 oh! I had one a long time ago. It was ok. I made an omelette with it. Also they are good to use for baking sponge cakes...apparently.

A customer at his old job had geese and they offered to give us some goose eggs, maybe if dad still has contact with them we can ask for some now?
When I visited them when dad was showing me his various customers, I tried to pet the geese and I was following them, and the geese just slowly walked away as I went closer to them. I said it was a “mild goose chase”. I didn’t get to pet them but it was fun playing “follow the leader” with some cute geese.
That's honestly interesting. Tiny egg. Tbh that might be decent food for a bearded dragon.
Oh wait I'm 9th :D
Or blue tongue skink or an egg eating snake
Imagine if it becomes a delicacy somewhere
If you want tiny eggs for them( bearded dragon), you can get some quails! My father has a lot of them and there like mini chickens.
i cackled so hard when you went from "this is a meal for an alpha male" and then cut to you saying "ovary havers, have you ever thought of cooking your own eggs?"
It's not the most delicious thought that eggs are bird periods, but other than that I think you did a really brave thing to prove that it's as normal as eating chicken eggs ^^
i actually ate my old cockatiel's eggs. (she lives with my dad now, she always loved him more anyway XD) She laid an entire clutch (5) of double yolk eggs, so I cooked all of them. she ate some, my other tiels and parakeets ate some, and i split the rest with my cats. the clearness i can actually equate to something more akin to a duck or goose egg.
Ur sick
a goose egg, you say
I had a confused-pause moment but then I remembered I have store bought quail eggs in the fridge- super interesting to see you try cockatiel eggs! I’ve noticed quail eggs being a little milder/sweeter than chicken eggs, but it could just be a different yolk to white ratio that makes it taste different. I vote to make the world’s smallest omelette if you get more eggs, pff
You should get a tiny little functional stove, with a tiny little functional pan and do a miniature scrambled egg video. Those eggs are perfect for that kind of thing.
Used to have a friend who lived on a large plot of land, so we'd go camping in their backyard from time to time, and she had a problem with invasive birds, so when my friend found their nests, she would set up a camera by it, and whenever they had eggs she would literally take them and eat them.
She didn't want to kill the already living birds, so she would snatch their future-children and consume them, and to this day, one of the funniest experiences I have ever had was waking up in the morning to hear her tell me "I stole the children" and show me about 5 little eggs with absolutely zero prior context.
Anyway, they tasted exactly like chicken eggs
I think that even with all the warnings, these eggs dont have any bird inside it. I thought i didnt need to say this but, some people scroll to this video, just to comment hate. So before you report, just know, there are no birds inside this 😅
First reaction was: You did WHAT
Then I remembered it's... Basically the same as chicken eggs.
If I had a pet bird (or any egg laying species) I'd definitely do this as well. Because I'm weird
it’s free food, not bad.
That sound your chicken is making is the same sound my chickens make after they lay an egg. We call it the celebration call lol

This is such a cool thing to document, thanks for the new and interesting content ❤ Yay free food!
Unfertilized eggs are bird periods; NOT bird fetuses. Idk why tf people can’t understand something that simple.
That’s like saying my unfertilized ovum is a human when it’s not. There are no body parts NOTHING if that were the case we wouldn’t have periods nor need a man.
The youtube notification shortened it for me so it only said "I Cooked my Cockatiels" so i was so confused 😂😂
I'm a scrambled gal, too! If you're turned off by the liquidy-ness of fried yolks, try flipping them and pressing down until the yolk breaks. That makes them cook more thoroughly.
I used to take care of parakeets and I actually would take the eggs and cook them! They're good protein and it's totally okay to eat 🤷 Idk why people think it's weird, they're the same as chicken eggs, just smaller
My cockatiel also has been laying unfertilized eggs, i been curious if i could fry and eat them. Im glad you did it 😅
I've gifted unfertilized budgie eggs (from a girl of mine with a hormone disorder) to people with egg-eating snakes before. I kinda regret not trying one myself when I had the chance!
if people are grossed out by eating bird eggs, they better realise everything has eggs, chickens lay eggs, they're no different to any other bird, also hotdogs are made from ground meat, intestines, hearts, livers, bones :)
people really need to look at where their food comes from...
OMG haha. I haven't watched the video yet, so i'm curious to what your reaction is. YOU KNOW THE VIDEOS WHERE THEY COOK TINY FOOD, WELL YOU COULD MAKE ONE.
As a previous chicken owner. My guess is that they are doing the “I just pooped an egg” song hence the sudden clucking 😆.
Lol
Cue the Incredibles meme "Eggs are EGGS" 🤣🤣
Another disclaimer: when the egg is fertile it will have blood vessel like veins running through it. These will appear shortly after they are laid. The chicken eggs you get from the store are infertile. It’s the same thing.
Is that the same for all birds? I had fertilized quail eggs from my quails and there were no veins even after several days in the fridge. They look exactly the same to me and a lot of free range eggs are fertilized which can be seen through the white dot on the yolk.
for a second I thought this was weird but then I realised its literally the same thing as eating a chicken egg, just a different species of bird. its dumb how people would be mad about this, also even if the egg WAS fertilised its not like there would be a chick or even an embryo in there at the time of laying
this is my first time having a pet cocktaiel couldnt ask for more
Yeah, the title threw me off. I was like 'but Soda is a pet person!!!' But yeah, you're right, if they're unfertilized, they're basically just the same as store-bought eggs.
I don’t understand how people would get mad, that’s crazy! I boiled my cockatiels egg and fed it back to her. She starts to perk up.
everyones talking about the eggs but im losing my mind over a soda pets youtooz
Aww, cockatiel eggs are so small and cute! I prefer scrambled eggs too, I wonder what they'd be like scrambled
Hear me out: tiny baking with the eggs
Perhaps a way to test whether a cockatiel egg is fertilized or not is to incubate it.
If you search "hatching eggs from supermarket" or something similar then you will find lot of videos; incubating these cockatiel eggs is a great
video idea that you can use to convince the internet that the egg was not fertilized!
I mean it’s pretty easy to tell when I cracked them open lol
Who cares if it's fertilized or not?!?? We eat fertilised eggs all the time. They are exactly the same as normal eggs. We can not stop our rooster mating with the hens...and most farms with free range birds will have the eggs fertilized. You cant tell the difference. It's not like they have been brooded and have a half grown chick in them! What's wrong with people?!
@@sodapets The only reason I wrote my original comment was because
* in the beginning of the video, before cracking the eggs open, you stated
that they are not fertilized. *
*** Both male, and female cockatiels were in the same cage! ***
How would you know if they were not fertilized; You didn't mention
a different set-up of their environment.
I am sure there are different ways to determine whether the
cockatiel eggs are fertilized, or not; * You didn't disclose
that in the video. *
The incubator method is still a great video idea since eggs
have to be in a certain temperature range in order for them
to eventually hatch (if fertilized).
I apologize if I missed some information in the video.
@@hectoremiliojimenez yeah, I hatched quail eggs and only after putting them into the incubator (at around 9 days) I could tell if they were fertilized or not.
But I don't think she should put the eggs into an incubator since cockatiel chicks are probably quite demanding to take care of.
The fact she didnt salt them hurts me 😭
It would ruin the true flavour
I have a female eclectus and male ringneck, I simply boit the eggs and feed them back to the parrots 🤣 the eclectus gets the nutrients she used to produve them back in her body. I also give them chicken eggs when they are molting.
i honestly feel like this is such an interesting and one of a kind video (not meaning to sound like all the other comments but…) soda was brave enough to definitely try what we were all thinking as bird owners and slayed the whole time doing it. personally it made me feel a little weird ab it but what’s a little egg testing for the knowledge of science(?) cooking(?) culinary arts(???)
I have been a big fan of your videos for a long time, but this video made me well and truly fall in love with you, lol. Gotta love the adventurousness and sense of humor!!
I just wanted to say that I don't think there would be a problem with eating fertilized eggs as long as the parents don't bother, I mean if you buy free range eggs a lot of them are fertilized if you notice that little white dot on the yolk and that's okay with me if the roosters had a chance to live too. Of course a long as they were cooked or put in the fridge right away to stop any fetal development or else you could get sick. I have quails and had fertilized eggs for some time when I kept a male with the girls and it's just the same to me

good to know im not weird for wondering what my cockatiels eggs would taste like....
If people get mad while they eat eggs themselves, they're pretty hypocrite
Different type of video today 😆 Anyways, I've had the thought before, when some of my budgies have unfertile eggs. (Though I'm pretty sure my family just thought me insane) And those chickens! I never knew you had chickens! I love chickens :D (Now I think of it, budgie eggs - being a fair bit smaller than cockatiel eggs - would probably suck at making a good meal lol)
I'm kinda confused why people would get mad about people eating these eggs, their like chicken eggs but small
Even if they were fertilized you could just refrigerate them on the day they were laid because there is nothing developed in there yet, which may just be the better thing to do when you don't want the birbs to breed and don't know what to do with the babies or the birbs don't care about the egg
Yep. Breeding birds requires consideration, and sometimes it's better not to bother breeding said bird in the first place. This is one area where the bird and human equivalents are the same - it's not wrong to end the potential baby before it actually has the chance to become a baby if you are not prepared or willing to raise said baby. The only difference here between the bird and human equivalents is only the human potential babies that aren't babies yet can pose a risk of lethality to the mother, whereas birds, being egg layers, do not have that issue.
@@lsmmoore1 Sometimes eggs can be lethal to birds! If they get egg-bound, meaning that the egg gets stuck, then they can pass away from complications. That's why it's a good idea to discourage excessive egg-laying in parrots whenever possible, although it's much harder in cockatiels than with other parrots because they're notorious for laying eggs.
@@NumeroLetter can chickens get egg-bound too, because that would make industry chickens, that were bred to lay a lot of eggs in short period of time, even more concerning

Soda, if you want really small eggs, really cute ones and from tiny, cute birdies, you may read about quails and consider having them :) I had quails, they are pretty cute, less tame than chickens though and sadly they have to live in a cage because they are easy prey to any animal- big cage of course, not the tiny like those minimal sizes, nope, I had mine in huuuge cage - I was able to fit in there :) But I was letting them run in the chicken coop sometimes. The closed one. Their eggs are tiny, tasty and more delicate than chicken eggs. Sad part is, they live around 2 years.
cocktaiels are goofy and cute
I had a hen when I was a kid, and we ate her eggs because we didn't have a rooster and they would have gone to waste otherwise. Totally normal. Bird eggs are eggs, regardless of size.
🤔🤔I wonder how many cockatiel eggs it would take to bake a cake 🎂

Talking about eggs and nutrition. That's some darn nice shells on them!
I have had so many thoughts of eating one of my 'tiels eggs when she lays one. We might share a meal when she lays one
I have eaten parakeet eggs several times because my grandmother had one that laid eggs regularly😄🥚🪺
I think they would be less unsettling if they were scrambled. 😆
This was a question I had for a while, thanks for doing this video. Also funny how people get angry or weirded out over this, but have no issues consuming chickens eggs which are not that different.
You need to put a little bit of butter in there too will cook much better.
I have the total of 6 pigeons. They have laid a couple eggs in the past and they are no different to chicken eggs. I have not thought of eating or giving the cooked un-fertilized eggs back to the pigeons for them to have energy after laying them. To the people that are confused between a fertilized and un-fertilized egg, the fertilized egg has a baby bird or whatever the egg has come from and is eating the yolk from the egg to grow and be healthy. Un-fertilized eggs are eggs that haven't been developed and cannot form into the animal it was going to be.
i should do this next time my conures lay eggs, we joke about it all the time but always throw them out instead
I honestly won’t be surprised if this video gets taken down just because no matter how many times you say it they are still going to think it’s wrong
I think you're just taking this too seriously
That title caught me off guard for a second- 😭
I tried this with a couple of pigeons I was taking care of. The yolk was fine but the white part was pretty gross. It's interesting!

omg the only weird part was feeding the egg back to the bird ahahah
Great video, actually looks tasty
my grandpa had a huge aviary and every day he gatherd quail eggs and free the speckled dove laid eggs and he put in the toaster oven as a snack
Question, entirely out of curiosity and not judgment because I don't know anything about birds: Since she lives with boys, how do you know it's not fertilized? Or is it just that you refrigerate it quickly enough that nothing has a chance to develop anyway?
Because they don’t have a breeding box, and they don’t breed, they won’t breed without a nesting box
@@sodapets Hi the egg will be fertilized, so able to develop a baby but the mum wont look after it without the breeding box so they are actually fertilized because if you put the egg in a incubator it would likely hatch
Huh.
I mean I personally don't eat my birds' eggs (Hi, budgie owner here.), but I take the eggs, cook them, and give them back to my hens. Especially during breeding season and when theyre not fertilized. It's less wasteful than throwing the eggs out and it's way more beneficial to recycle them back to the hens.
