  • The 3 thinks to run a shop better., I washed I'd known sooner. I owned my own shop for 22 years and it was only in the last 10 years that I learn't what I need to know to run it better and more profitable. The 3 things are:
    1. Going a performance group
    2. Constant improvement
    3. Better financials
If you have any questions about performance groups - please leave a comment

Hey Alan! My dad and my mom bought a tire shop December 1999. I knew nothing about tires at the time but I knew I wanted to work for my family and myself. I never liked other employees attitudes at any job I had up to this point. I absolutely hate when someone said, " I am here for 8 hrs so I don't get in a hurry"! These same employees always use to gripe about not being paid enough by whatever company i was at. Every company I ever worked for I gave it my all to complete as much work as possible. I was highly motivated to earn my bosses as much as humanly possible! I always hoped that would lead to me making more money on my check. Most employees just seem to do the minimum and complain that the company doesn't pay them enough. I grew tired of that mentality. That motivated me to have my own business or at least family owned! I am 47 years old and have had less than 7 jobs my whole work career and never drew an unemployment check. If I left a job I always had a new one lined up first. For the last 21 years I have worked for my family and myself. We own a company called Blue Ridge Tire Co. Inc. We live in a city called Lenoir, NC. This use.to be called the furniture capitol of America. Those jobs are mostly gone now. Luckily for us Google built a large facility in Lenoir. Our city is growing fast! Restaurants are moving in and many other businesses. There is a lot of money to be made here as it grows larger. Google is about to begin another massive data center here. I have been told by a reliable source that Google plans to make Lenoir the largest data center in the world! Lenoir will be a much larger city in the next 5 years and has grown a lot in the past 5 years. When my dad bought a tiny tire company in 1999 we had no idea that this city would grow so fast. We never advertised in 21 years but we stay super busy!! There is a problem in Lenoir right now though. Almost everywhere you look is a now hiring sign! The labor sector is very volatile in 2021. We lost 2 employees this year so far. I hate to say it was a good thing but it was. That same " I am here for 8hrs" attitude! Anyway, I just came back to work 3 weeks ago. I was out 3 years due to injury. I love to get in the action and help keep the customers happy!! Heck, I still run road calls in our service trucks. I work myself to the brink of injury everyday! When I work harder I notice that the other employees work harder and smile more. A few years back we had 7 or 8 total employees and went over $1 million in sales. Only 5 employees were in the shop at that time. We don't have big city prices so that is why I feel that was a big number. I believe we could do over 1.5 million in sales if we could just find help. I hope the government will quit giving money away soon. We have had a now hiring sign up for 3 weeks and 1 application just yesterday. Luckily, it was a great application and we are planning on starting him very soon! I love the tire business but my dad is 70 years old and his health has declined some. We hope to sell out or rent the building when he is ready. I think my dad wants to retire by early next year! Since nothing is cast in stone yet, I am treating our shop like it will be open for 25 more years. I am for sure that once my dad is done then I will be right behind him!! The only way I would stay for a bit longer would be for transition period, if that were even needed. I am going through your videos to see if I can learn anything that i may not know. I don't know everything and always willing to learn new things about business. Sorry for the bookni wrote here, lol! Thanks for the video and i will look for more to watch
