Really appreciate your Benchmark reviews. I’m in the market to upgrade my preamp and DAC. Years ago I listened to the Wadia 861 SEi. It had great soundstage, neutral, and detailed which is what I want no coloration. I’ve been looking and spec wise Benchmark is fantastic. It’s going to be auditioned and I expect it will be part of my system.

Love the HPA4, best pre I have owned. I love the gain adjustment feature on the inputs accessible via touch screen. Really helps adjust sound levels when using pro and consumer gear but boosting or cutting the signal by +/- 10db. Good stuff HiFi Turtle!

I have the same stack with the DAC3 and a second DAc which is the Marantz HD DAC1. I’m done with amps, pre’s and maybe DACs.
    I’m a musician of over 40 years.
Pair this with well measuring speakers and you are done.
Whomever says the Benchmark stuff is either thin or cold has no clue.
    Super duper natural sounding.
    It’s beautiful
And btw the LA4 is for me all the magic. I have no idea how they do it, but the speed of it is perfect. I know that sounds weird , but it’s true.

Nice job explaining the nuances of the DAC 3 and LA4. That's an expensive 'click' over considering the newer HGC, yet certainly something to ponder.

I just have all my cables from Benchmark Media, I replaced some fancy snake oil and also some DIY cables, and while all my previous cables were working ok, I did see some changes in the eq measurements and especially listening to known music, it was like removing another grill from the speakers. All is xlr balanced with quads, and speakers are on Neutrik speakON and real Nakamichi tubular locking banana. I have also rewired a villa, dividing by 10 cable prices and the owner told be he will NEVER change cable brand. So if the devices are as correct as the cables, they must be good. People who know stuff in detail know that simple nickel/nickel is the best and know why.

    Relais are sexy!
Out of the Benchmark Lineup I would still go for the AHB2 first, since my Brooklyn DAC has a very good volume control already. I will test, though, if the sound changes in any noticeable way at low volumes.

Great review of the Benchmark gear. I have the full stack and agree with your assessment of the LA4. Would love to hear your thoughts on the AHB2. Oh and I also use those black sticker covers on my DAC3L. Definitely sub'd to your channel.

mono output is a thing because it is a tool also made for professionals in a studio environment. And monitoring often only needs a mono signal.

    The LA4 was $2,500? It's now $2,950, an 18% increase in 16 months?

Not the worst weve seen from hifi or most anything else as of late! Benchmark held off on raising prices for a long time, and warned of price increases for months prior to them happening

Amplifiers don't make sounds, they don't sound, they amplify the signal.
Therfore correct question is - do better measuring amplifiers amplify the signal better?
The answer is always yes since measurements answer the accuracy of amplification directly.
    Same with DACs

@@ryantanchan1 yes there is... slightly, but better! The preamp brings more authority and control to the music. There is a slight bit more organic feel... but to be Honest I don't think it's worth the Xtra money spent on the preamp... save your money & just njoy what you have! I got burned out & broke trying to hear slight differences in music for thousands of dollars!

a preamp does not attenuate the volume, it works by increasing the voltage. its role is not very intuitive. i have hve the feeling that you just dont know what you are talking about
