My mother always said to me "only boring people say theyre bored" and the older I get the more i understand.
People have forgotten how to live a life outside of their work, school, internet, etc... and it genuinely makes me sad. I rarely see teens my age outside.
Im tired of this mundane life weve made for ourselves, so i try when i can to get outside, and when i do i feel so much better about myself and my life.

    1. Biking around your city and looking for cool spots on Google maps
    2. Any sports team/ classes
    3. Create: art, organize room, put things together etc.
    4. Talk random people
    5. Try new things

Saw a vid that had a good rule of thumb about hobbies. Have at least 3. One physical hobby, to help you stay in shape, one intellectual hobby to sharpen your mind, and one creative hobby to express yourselve.
Been trying it out recently and the hobbies I picked are:
    Cycling, Chess, and Piano.
Still pretty ass at the last 2 but been feeling better little by little

Im glad i came upon this video, I was heavily addicted to games for honestly decades on and off, recently it was pretty bad, about 40-50hours a week pretty much my life revolved around video games.
Im about a month free and i have found myself much happier. I still do some stuff like i have been getting more into like board games and miniatures and stuff but it actually brings me joy. I used to struggle even watching movies because my attention span was so low, and i have found my attention span has been getting bigger.
I have been eating better kind of, not perfect but infinitely more than before and while my health still isnt the best i feel much better.
I have a stationary bike for exercise at home i live in an apartment and while technically i can get a bike and get around the city its kinda stressful and i am an anxious fearful person, but have found that stopping gaming has helped with this too.
Personally im not a fan of sports because i have had bad experiences when people got too competitive and it made me sad, thats why i despise golf, but sports are definitely good ways to be social and also exercise. I do enjoy more "solitary" things, like its kinda a stereotype but when i went to the gym and stuff that was my hobby actually and that made me happy too, like lifting weights etc, not to get like ripped or anything but just to get a good workout in and feel better.
Its interesting because gaming i feel does have a lot of good moments, but those moments also have lots of time you are not having fun or just getting amped up etc, but it does fulfil a sense of purpose in some people which can be addicting, especially when other things in life are kinda not the best. I do think it is unhealthy coping mechanism though unfortuantely as it is addicting by its very nature, and some people and personality types it does not mix well which it is for me. Like telling an alcoholic they can just have one drink right? I still dont think i will hate games though because they were there for me in a very bad part of my life and helped me cope, even if it was not healthy, and lots of good memories etc, but at the end of the day stopped games has improved my life, and it has gotten easier.
I have actually wanted to become a writer and im going to write, even if its a small story or if it doesnt turn out good i will write, that is my passion, it can unfortunately be a lonely life and i feel fear when i feel i need to impress people, but when i dont need to be "perfect" life is better, and most of the time things turn out alright.
I also have started painting miniatures and stuff, and granted while that may technically be still considered gaming i consider it something else, but i understand if some people combine it, this brings me some joy too. being more creative makes me feel alive. it also helps me to have the energy to clean and do basic aspects of my life.
Im glad to hear things are doing good for you.

You phrased it perfectly, as someone that's ridden since age 5, cycling truly is a beautiful experience. You being your own engine is so empowering, and in time it "hardens" you in the sense that you get used to the conditions outside no matter the weather, you go distances that people think are impossible and being able to do that and have that perspective, that "view from such heights". Like in cycling, like in anything you practice, like in life it's about committing, progressing, and pushing yourself to your limits, that is how you enjoy life. Being machine

for me, going outside and just being present in the moment or cleaning around is great. but i think often times, its difficult to go outside especially in a third world country as someone whos of legal age but doesnt have a drivers license, where our area is so car centric and car dependent. ive been more outside more when i got a bike, and not everyone knows how to ride one and would want to ride one. then again, i only go to enjoyable and naturey areas when i go far (smthn my parents dont know bc they dont want me doing bc of how dangerous and unpredictable our roads and drivers can be)

I feel like rock climbing is almost a combination of all the things you have just mentioned. The climbing wall serves as a third space (which you may have heard about people on youtube discussing the importance of recently) which is super social, as well as good excercise. Bouldering is collaborative in a way that similar sports just aren't, because you talk to other climbers on what's the best way to do the climb you are working on (even while you are on the wall), which makes climbing so social and collaborative. And once you become a good climber, you can then take those skills and go on climbs in nature as well.

One time I rode through this part of the wooded area at a park near my house and lo and behold there it stood in all its glory. Bouncy branch. A branch just above waist height that was sturdy yet gave enough to use like a trampoline. One could push off the ground and go about 7 feet in the air. I would bounce on bouncy branch all the time and had so much fun. Unfortunately last winter a storm took bouncy branch from us, but I will never forget.

I lost 20 pounds and I’m out in nature and I’ve met some cool people. And I learned how to hyzer flip a disc and frankly that makes you feel like a god. 😊

Can't blame our generation. Alcohal has been ruining lives and livelihoods since the beginning of civilization. As for watching TV (and video games), I agree that it was a problem before the turn of this century, but not to the extent of global pandemic level of content addiction we have in young people these days. If one in ten was an addict back then, it's 7 in ten now.

I am aware that it's super simple to call me negative, and maybe I am that. But I have tried biking and playing sports and got extremely burnt out in both of these hobbies. Decorating my room is not possible, as I despise everything I've ever created. Talking to people caused great levels of harm to my mental health, as they always seem tired of me and with every conversation become only less likely to reach out. I feel truly hopeless, just stuck between work to make ends meet, studying to make ends meet in the future and desperately trying and failing to please other people. Any hobby I had I have become numb to, any hobby I have now is more like a chore I do to avoid existential dread.
Help me if you can, anyone tbh.

    • @alexstone9099
      @alexstone9099 5 месяцев назад +1

Hey, I feel where you're coming from, I've experienced similar negative experiences to what you described. I would first of all say that not every person has the same journey and if you're feeling the way that you are then you've probably had some shit going on for a while and so it might take some extra steps to get to a better place, perhaps steps that other people who make it look easy won't have to take, we all have different hardships and experiences and so its only natural this is going to be the case. To this I'd say try and embrace the challenge as a part of your journey.
For you I don't know you so I can't say, but do what you can to reflect on why you feel so negatively, and not just this, but finding some self compassion, not despising everything you've ever created is a good starting point. For me thats one thing that helped the most, and from there you can open yourself up to the world and feeling enjoyment again. It takes time, and you're not alone, I'm still on that journey as well, all the best.

It’s kind of hard for me to join a sport at 15, most people my age have been playing for years. Any other active hobbies I could do?

going to the gym whether it’s callisthenics or powerlifting or just for enjoyment. rock climbing, disc golf or just golf (needs patience) rugby if your school has it or some sort of track event. hiking, fishing, geocaching, hop on scooter with friends, swimming lengths. boxing workouts- find a class id say. learn some dances (liberating) jumprope. job with physical labor (ground crew at golf course, construction, yard work) see if there’s any unique sports your school offers bc most of the kids will be new. hopefully this gives u some ideas good luck 👍👍
