  • A review of the newly released Casio WS-1600H, which was released in May 2023. It is a re-design of the Casio AE-1300WH, and features a better display and bars for the timer functions like the Casio AE22w instead of the circular graphs as featured on the AE-1300WH. As it does use the same logical 2991 module, it has the same functions and features as the AE-1300WH such as world time, chronograph, countdown timer and interval timer. The WS-1600H is available in 3 variations: WS1600H-1AV, WS1600H-8AV and WS1600H-2AV.
    It is currently selling for under $23 on Amazon USA at the time of recording.

    Was going to use one of my AE-1200 modules for the old SKX Mod upgrade until I saw this beauty with the orange and grey lettering. Something about it reminds me of the Buck Rogers/Battlestar Galactica/Star Trek film aesthetic from my childhood. Weird but true.
    Plus it doesn't seem to accidentally switch timezones on me like the 1200 does. I do get the 007 vibes of that watch with the World Time focus but I'd honestly much rather have extra timers than constantly feeling like a super spy who can't tell which country and timezone he's occupying. Anyways, thanks for the review!

    I have a bunch of these AE series Casios and I think the AE1300 is a little more visually interesting to me but the 1600 is growing on me just from sheer readability. I like these for traveling and work since I support customers worldwide the World Timer feature is way more fun than googling ‘what time is it in New Delhi?’ I have a few really nice SKXMODS builds but I love the light resin cases for biking and knocking around without worrying about banging my watch up. I add Jays and Kay’s adapters and a more comfortable rubber strap to them as soon as I get them out of the box and they are just about perfect. I am up to around 6 custom builds now with different accent colors and I hardly wear any of my nice mechanical watches anymore!

    I have this watch now - I love the preset value in the timer, it works for me most of the time, if I need to customize the timer, I simply uses the interval time, only use a single one. Sleek and good looking design, large number, especially I'm wearing an eyeglasses now.

  • @yarly3180
    @yarly3180 Год назад +2

    I have the AE-1300: you can just use the preset timer and interval timer as dual timers. E.g. I use the watch when cycling: the preset timer as 'hydration reminder' set @ 00:30 usually and the interval timer @ 00:50 as a reminder to eat. This is a better and cheaper solution than a G-Shock DW-5600E: the buttons are far easier to press when cycling even, the watch weighs only 40 grams and it has 10 years battery life. Though I doubt I'll get 10 years out of the battery because I use the timers WAY more than the example in the manual ;)

    • @wristaction
      @wristaction  Год назад

      I wish I understood the stopwatch :(
      I know it's aimed at referees, but it would have been great if it calculated the stoppage times in the watch rather than manually like the in the instructions. I'd say that you will get 10 years out of it, I'm impressed with the build. The straps normally break before the watch, but at least they have used standard spring bars for easy replacement.

      @@wristaction yeah the stopwatch is a bit weird, it's sort of a dual timer but also an alarm went off @ 1 minute when I tested it. I also had to check the manual to be able to reset it to 00:00 by pressing [A] a long time, pretty counter-intuitive .... anyway I don't need the stopwatch so it's best left alone lol

      @@wristaction The watch has both a "preset timer" and a fully programmable "countdown timer" (aka "interval timer"). The interval timer can also be configured with an auto-repeat function. As far as timers are concerned, this one appears superior to the standard countdown timer that many other budget Casio watches have. The difference is that it takes just a little more thought when programming.
      That said, I can see some FANTASTIC applications for this watch. Sailboat racing is a perfect example. The start sequences between classes in the fleet are typically 5 minutes apart. Interval #1 would be 1 minute long (warning), and Interval #2 would be 4 minutes long (pre-start). Activate auto-repeat, and the cycle should continue every 5 minutes until the user decides it's no longer needed.
      If you just need a simple countdown timer, program Interval #1 and leave the rest blank.
