I've only played Sobek 2P on BGA, including a tournament, and from that I can tell you it CAN be super thinky and strategic or just a lightweight lucky game all depending upon who you're playing with and how they approach it! You two need to try playing with other players :) This is also true of many 2P games, Targi is the same. I also tried the original 4P game Sobek on BGA and did not enjoy it so much as it is a lot meaner and has some strange scoring and points-stealing possibilities. This 2P version is more streamlined and the iconography a lot easier to follow.
Always great to get your thoughts and feelings about the games you play. When I watched this video, I had a weird sense that I had seen it before. Deja vu! But then I noticed I didn't leave a comment so I guess I hadn't seen it. Seems like the game has elements I would like and some I might not. I will have to give it a few plays when I have the chance. I don't mind games where you can mess with your opponent, as long as the opponent is prepared to have fun with it.
Hahaha de ja vu! Hmm I haven't done Sobek yet before, maybe other similar game? Sounds like this might be still good for you :) Thanks for the visit Carl!
I’ve played Sobek 2 on BGA and look forward to purchasing this game. I agree with some of the other comments that it can be played as lightweight gateway game or more strategically. At least on BGA it was a quick playing game and good when you have limited time. Bruno is one of my favorite game designers and like the multiple pathways to victory.
I have the original Sobek which just seems so much better than this. This seems so dull, while I enjoyed the original card based Sobek. The original Sobek plays very well with 2 to 4. If you want a game with corruption as a theme, go for the original Sobek - it's good.
I respectfully disagree. The original Sobek is a MUCH lighter, family-oriented game with some take that. Sure, it can be a good laugh and I've had my fun with it, but Sobek Duel knocks it out of the park for me. It adds a lot of depth and replayability without complicating things too much, much like what 7 Wonders Duel does for 7 Wonders. I would only ever pick the original Sobek over this one if you intend to play with more people, but Sobek Duel is definitely the superior game in my book.

@@Calistake047 cool take. I haven't played Sobek Dual. I'm not likely to go for it unless it comes out on Android as an App.
@@allankamen9875 stay away from tech and screens, play real life board games!
