- WHY IS MY RESIN NOT CURING ???
Correctly mixing your resin is vital for a full cure; a full cure should be rock hard, smooth, not sticky and not bendy. Often beginners get this step wrong and ruin their project. I get lots of questions on what is the best method to prepare and mix resin, watch this tutorial to learn how!
If you have any questions, please leave me a comment under this video or send me an email at edna@wargon.net
Enjoy the tutorial and happy arting ❤

Thank you so much for this video! I messed up my mom's coaster because I didn't mix for the full 3 mins or wait long enough! Felt like an idiot. This is a life saver🤟🏾
That's why I'm here, to help, have a great day Zombie :)
Thank you for this video! I did my first pour last weekend and it came out all bendy! This helped me for next time.
Hi. Caroline 🥰 so happy my tutorial helped. There's nothing worse than bendy resin, it feels like such a waste 💜
Just did mine yesterday and turned out the same 😂🤣
I did a 1:1 about 2 weeks ago, 24h later was bendy, but not sticky. 2 weeks later(today), still bendy. I think my digital scale wasnt working properly, but its odd tho cause its brand new. I did only 10ml of each...but where the whole thing that felt weird to me was the pour of 10ml. A was a little long to pour as the scale didnt even sense the fluid til nearly the bottom of the cup was full. But when I tared off to 0 it out and pour in B, as soon as the first drop hit part A, it instantly registered. Was beginning to think that the measurements were wrong and probably was a 1:0.8 ratio or something along that line, but just went with it. But the thing is, I am not even sure if its supposed to turn completely solid or not as the starter kit I got is from overseas. Only got it as a means to experiment as it was cheap. The instructions were not in english and had to use a translator...but even that didnt help me. I am gonna try using a different cup, probably one that is heavier than the one that came in the kit to see if it makes a difference when pouring the parts.
I think you make a good point, I use really accurate scales do even as little as 10ml gets correctly weighed. Also I check the batteries often, test them out and make sure they have enough power. I rarely weigh out that little but your scales matter. 👍
The top half of my figurine came out great, the bottom inch not so much nor any small item I poured after. I think I didn't mix well enough but I'm going to try again.
Your voice is so calming. I could literally watch your videos all day long! Great video, super helpful!
Thanks Afra, lovely compliment, welcome to my channel 💞
Wow it really helped me thank you!! I always thought that I geven to mix it very slow for the bubbles
I have found aggressive mixing is one key aspect often passed by as it's a pain.
Thank you very much for the video. I have tried to make, what I thought would be an easy thing to start with, a book mark. It didn't go to bad but most were bendy. I've just subscribed to your channel & I look forward to learning more. From Australia ☺
Glad it was helpful! Welcome to my channel. Love from France 🇫🇷 ❤️
The funny thing is, if I watch this with my daughter I know she’ll want to know how to make the one you don’t like, I think it looks amazing, and my daughter would probably use it for fiddling with, bending away at it, probably trying to break it.
I love the lumps and different textures.
Then again, I will be using the proper technic because I didn’t come here to learn how to make bendy resin!! 😂
😄😍 Such a cute comment, thanks Liz, well if you want bendy resin you know how but hopefully my tips will help you achieve a nice solid cure, have a lovely day ❤️
I had sticky resin on some rocks I was trying to coat, I left them alone for months in a container checked them and they were finally cured.
Sometimes, the brand of resin makes a big difference to the curing time.
Ok thats funny my alexa was set when you asked yours for 3 minute timer.. when mine went off scared me.. lol thanks for your time the video was very informative..💙💜💙
😅😅😅 I was actually hoping that wouldn't happen but I guess it depends where people have their alexas, how funny 😅 glad you found it helpful
Omg my Alexa just set a timer for 3 minutes uses. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial :))
Is there any way to save materials from not cured properly piece?
Unfortunately not, I wish there was 😉😊
Hy mine is 3:1 ratio resin my bookmark is bendy and keychains are absolutely perfect what should i do for bookmarks?
molds that are thin will be bendable no matter what resin you use, so for bookmarks they should be bendy like real paper bookmarks.
Very informative, really helpful. I was struggling with mixing, I'll try it out and let you know how I did.
Hi, definitely let me know how it goes for you 🤞🙂
Hi,Can you Tell me how can I dry Resin, should I have to wait natural form,I don't now the way or the temperatur degre,or the method. Thank you for the tutorial 🥰
Yes you do, let it dry naturally overnight and up to 3 weeks for a full cure.
Got bad advice watching other videos which said to stir and mix SLOWLY to avoid bubbles .... which I did and after 72 hrs on a 13 in by 17 inch pour, sticky in spots ... so I'm guessing the mix should have been more aggressive like you did .. any suggests on how to fix? .... do i scrape and and sand and start over or can I do a new pour over the old one? Thanks.
Without seeing it myself, I would just start again.you risk wasting resin if you just pour over it. It happens to us all. 🙂
Omw i love doing art and craft also working with epoxy resins as beginers
Happy you found my channel Shaista 🥰
Thankkkk you for this video! It really helps .. 1st time & all of my items came out bendy

Hi I would love to know what precision you did not do well in the process I do want it flexible in this way or even more flexible. Thank you very much. I would love for you to help me 🙏🏻💛
My house temperature is quite cold at this time of year, foes that make a difference? My Pebeo Gedeo Crystal resin has dried bendy.
The temperature can definitely affect the curing of resin, but wait a few days to see if it cures hard, it might take longer in the cold. Hope this helps 🥰
I have used same measuremnt to make a coaster and kechain , keychain demolded very smoothly and rock hard but coaster is still bendy and not curing🥹, what i can do to make it cure sholud i leave it for 3 days
I would leave it for a week to see if it cures hard.
If I have already set my molds, then today I realized I must have messed with the A and B .. cause it’s not getting hard. I know I used both.. but must have used more of one of them. Can I fix it or junk them ?
@donnaroberts4658 unfortunately no solution once both parts have been mixed.
This is happening with my premixed resin the bottoms are still partially wet and the tops are sticky ,I keep putting more time on the curing lamp but it is still giving issues.

If i use 1:1 ratio that means in any of my resin the mixture of the chemical must be equal?
Yes
yes that's exactly what my coasters looked like, with holes and pliable
Thanks for your tips
I made a resin mold months ago and it's still sticky. Never doing this again.
What a hassle
Sorry 😞
Heyyy I heard that some people said if u put 100g of resin u should put 50g of hardener so it that wrong they said if u put resin u should put half hardener
If you use a 2:1 resin that's correct. I used a 1:1 ratio resin so equal amounts of both in this case.
If you mix and pour outside do you need to wear a mask if so would a disposable one work?
If you're outside, with the right resin, no, you can wear disponible mask outside, inside wear a filter mask from the hardwear store, they're not expensive and can ba reused. I have a pack of 3 in my studio. Its useful for sanding too 😉
Can you do a video on how to get rid of all bubbles when making transparent coasters? X😭
Il add it to my list 🥰
Hi Edna...I'm new to resin craft resin never ever used it before I no all about ppe and respirator...but when I'm not useing it and its just sat on shelf ...what temperature should my room stay at so it dosent upset the balance of the resin when I next use it ...by the way I don't have any heating in the room I use and I've bought a thermometer to keep an eye on room temp ...I live in uk live x
HI, it depends on the brand of resin you are using, but a steady room temperature of around 21°c is optimal for both storage and curing
Thank you for the video. Where did you get those 3D flowers on the coasters at the end of the video? Very pretty
Thanks Edna . any suggestion why most Epoxy is sold and suggested at a 2:1 ratio ?
Nope, ive used so many different ratios, the most annoying being a 1:66 ratio!

Hi Edna ! Thank you for this video. I’ve been working with resin for about 10 months now and I never had a piece that didn’t cure until this month. I am measuring/mixing well but there are some days when my resin isn’t curing. Usually it’s small sticky parts. It’s winter and temperatures have fallen but I am controlling the temperatures with the help of heaters. What do you suggest I do ?
HI, most likely reason if there are spots of sticky resin is that you haven't mixed properly even though you thought you did, there are areas that are not mixed well and they cannot cure. Try mixing for 3 minutes then transfer into a clean cup and use a fresh stir stick and mix for another minute. that may help.
Such a informative video. But can you please help me as I am new in this . I tried comb and mirror but it's not setting hard ever. After mixing for 3 min and giving proper time to cure. I am too sad for this. Please can you help
Hi. as in the tutorial i used Craft Resin. I cannot comment on a brand i haven’t used 😉
Thank you so much! As I continue to practice
👍💛💛💛
So glad I found your video. I did a piece and it seems I didn’t mix properly even though I mixed toe nearly 4 minutes. I figured I would go a bit further than 3 min. The piece feels gummy after 48hrs. What can I do to help it harden or is my art piece trash now? I hope not i worked so hard on this piece.
Hi, it depends on the type of resin you use so I can only show you how to correctly mix it. But if you mixed correctly, just wait a couple of days for it to fully cure then see if its still gummy.
Hi, so a quick question...
I am a beginner and the bottle I brought says the rasin has to be in the 2:1 ratio....
So does that cause the bendy coster...
No, its the way you mix and how long. As part my demonstration
Do you warm up your resin first ? With heat gum or in bottle with warm water ?
Great ❓ if you're in a colder climate or if your resin is in your garage and it's cold and the resin crystallizes then yes do do a water bath first before mixing. My studio is really warm all year long so I never have to but do not worry if your resin crystallizes, it's very normal in colder climates just put it in a water bath for about 5 minutes until it becomes liquid again and then mix. Hope this answers your question 🥰🥰🥰
I can't seem to find a heat gum on Amazon. Where do I get one?
@@explorster just about any hardware/home improvement store, they can be 25-100 dollars. The 25$ ones will work just fine for resin
If you were doing 1:2 ratio you’d take 1, divide by two and then take the first number and do half of that. What???
You’d do one part A and TWO parts B, right?
Exactly 🙂 part A is usually the resin so that would be 100g for example then part B is the hardener so 50g.
🙂
Hi! Quick question. (I’m a beginner). I mixed resin and hardener together and I poured it into the silicon molds. Half of them came out hard and half are bendy from the same pour. What did I do wrong? Thanks :)
Hi. Did you do a thick pour in depth for both?
@@EdnaWargon they were all the same! i'm so confused! I can try again.
@@sarahannestewart832 give it some before calling it a failing, sometimes it takes longer to cure then you think. 🥰
Hi! Thank you for this tutorial I'm new to doing things with resin and this tutorial is very helpful, I have a question after mixing for 3 minutes do you start to mix in the color or glitter or do you have to wait before adding anything?
As shown in this tutorial, mix the resin first for 3 minutes, then divide the resin into separate cups and mix in your pigments, then pour.
Hi i use 2:1 resin. Can you tell me please how i Measure each silicone molds?
No as it depends on the shape, depth and width of your particular coaster. I did another tutorial on how to measure resin.
Hi I made a incense holder and took it out the mould because it looked ready but then realised it was bendy when I took it out the mould. Is there a way I can make it harder now that's it's already out of the mould
Leave it a couple of days on a flat surface to fully cure then see if its still been bendy.
Hi dear.. I'm new at resin art.. I made a coaster and a book mark but half of the mold is cured and half is not.. I don't know what have I done wrong.. I mixed it correctly because if I hadn't then the half should also not cured.. but I don't know what happened.. it's 4 days now but still no improvement.. should I throw it in the bin?? Will it effects my mold??
I used craft resin in this example, it depends on your resin brand.

Hi. I still don't understand the 1:1 ratio never did at school. So for example if I'm doing 20ml of resin then I have to do 20ml hardener? Cos mine just seems rubbery

Okay, I struggle with *listening and concentrating* but I love this so much , I’m keeping a book log of my mistakes and improvements ect. I am open to learning , I have a question❤️ I made bendy uncured resin last night and I’ve heard it’s toxic. I also heard it might harden over time, does that then make it safe? What happens if I gift someone bendy resin? Toxic to touch? Should I bin the bookmark I made lastnight or should I keep it? It won’t harm me will it?! I overthink and don’t want to harm myself for keeping failed resin🤣 sorry I blab on x
Bookmarks are thin so they will stay slightly bendy even once cured. Thickest castings cure rock hard, but none will be toxic.
I think it's the wet resin that's toxic from what I heard
what resin is the best to use
Craft resin
Hi, thank you for this video
Although I’ve been told to always make sure after mixing you put it in another measuring cup & mix again to make sure the sides & bottom are completely mixed. Is this useful advice or an extra step not needed?
I use this method every time & sometimes it’s perfect sometimes it’s bendy & sometimes it’s completely not cured So completely tacky and sticky
I've heard this too but I find it easier to use one cup and mix properly, personally Ive never had any problems if you scrape the sides and bottom as demonstrated, that part is important.
@@EdnaWargon since watching this video I’ve not had a failed project it helped so much thank you so much!
How much time it gets to dry ?
This resin i used takes only 24 hours
I just had a problem with the resin moving away from spots on the glass. It dried so bumpy I had to throw it away. Also my keychaind did not cure at all. overnight.
I was wondering if the temperature in my craft room is to cold would that effect the resin
Yes definitely, resin doesn't like cold.
I used alcohol ink in mine. It hardend and was not sticky. However when doing the wine glass holder that holds glasses as well it started bending after a couple hours. Is there something that can make it harder so it won't bend?
If the casting is too thin, it will bend, especially in hot weather, its best to make thicker castings when using resin.

Hi Shena, if you bought a 2:1 resin you MUST use that ratio!

During the summer I never had this problem and recently it’s been getting bendy and I have to throw them away, any advice?:(
During the summer, the extra heat cures the resin much faster, I work indoors so its warm all year round but in winter when its cold and damp outside the resin might take longer to cure. just the chemical reaction to resin , it likes warmth 🥰
But before you throw them away wait an extra week or so, provided you followed my advice in this tutorial and measured and mixed correctly, it will eventually cure.

I have a question! I just started working with resin and so far some of the pieces that I have done I have let cure for 2 to 3 days but if I have them set up against something or something up against the resin it starts to warp. what could be the issue?
Simply, resin dries to the shape you set it, as its starts of liquid and dries hard whatever you put next to it or underneath it could warp it. You need a FLAT, even surface and level it out with a level so you don't get one side higher than the other.
@@EdnaWargon it warped after laying flat for a few days... for example: I made a resin chopping board and laid it flat inside the mold for two days and then took it out of the mold and laid it flat for another three days. After about a week I put it in the packaging for the Christmas basket I was selling and it warped a little after sitting in the box a few days.... would that be the same issue or something else?
