How Pencils are made in Factories? (Mega Factories Video)

- A pencil is an implement for writing or drawing, constructed of a narrow, solid pigment core in a protective casing that prevents the core from being broken or marking the user's hand.
The lead of the pencil is a mix of finely ground graphite and clay powders. Before the two substances are mixed, they are separately cleaned of foreign matter and dried in a manner that creates large square cakes. Once the cakes have fully dried, the graphite and the clay squares are mixed together using water. The amount of clay content added to the graphite depends on the intended pencil hardness (lower proportions of clay makes the core softer), and the amount of time spent on grinding the mixture determines the quality of the lead. The mixture is then shaped into long spaghetti-like strings, straightened, dried, cut, and then tempered in a kiln. The resulting strings are dipped in oil or molten wax, which seeps into the tiny holes of the material and allows for the smooth writing ability of the pencil.
A juniper or incense-cedar plank with several long parallel grooves is cut to fashion a "slat," and the graphite/clay strings are inserted into the grooves. Another grooved plank is glued on top, and the whole assembly is then cut into individual pencils, which are then varnished or painted. Many pencils feature an eraser on the top and so the process is usually still considered incomplete at this point. Each pencil has a shoulder cut on one end of the pencil to allow for a metal ferrule to be secured onto the wood. A rubber plug is then inserted into the ferrule for a functioning eraser on the end of the pencil.

Always fascinating to learn how things are made!✏✏✏ Thank you for sharing! Each step in the process was quite amazing!🥰🥰🥰
He's not wearing a dust mask. :( Dude's lungs are not ok.
That's exactly what I thought. I don't particularly know if graphite dust is harmful, but I assume it is!
Not only the dust, but the guy that handles the lead all day bare handed. That can’t be good for him either.
@@WMARUoriginal there is no lead involved
Yeah even if the dust is non toxic, which I don't know, it's still way too much particle dust in your lungs every day to be heslthy. A mask is cheap.
@@stemid85 All dust is toxic if you get enough of it in your lungs.
I'm surprised... The guy mixing powders to make pencils is not wearing any personal protection? That dust has to be on the 1 micron scale or even less.
All that dust and no mask? Where is OSHA when you need it? Graphite is similar to coal and, therefore, it is no good for anyone's lungs.
Yikes, those guys making the graphite weren't wearing masks in those clouds of dust!
No personal protective equipment? I doubt it -- they surely removed it for the videography. Still, safety per se should be part of the manufacturing process.
I find the lack of breathing protection disturbing...
Big jump from mining to opening bags.
Handling and opening bags of fine carbon nano-particles without a respirator on. Life expectancy of a 1920s coal miner.
How do they add colour?
How are the colour pencils made? Is the colour mixed with graphite ?
Color pencils are made by mixing pigments or dyes with a binder, not graphite. The mixture is encased in wood to create the core of the pencil. Do yo have any other question, please feel free to ask.
The sharpening was the most amazing part of the process in my opinion. A couple seconds at the proper angle on a piece of sandpaper and bam, perfectly sharpened pencil! Awesome.
All this to make a freaking pencil which most people simply throw away after a few uses. Sad ... truly sad indeed !
The jigsaw puzzles which we all solved right from our childhood days are manufactured with some great engineering behind them. Watch this exciting and informative video to learn more!

Oh My I am speechless , the amount of ❤ those people put in that process to make pencils . Beautiful ❤❤❤👌👍👏
Show us how they make the eraser you cowards
À la première opération, les travailleurs travaillent sans masque !
Great video. Do they still sell the same amount of pencils?
4pm 5/16 2024. This was amazing to see. I love it. I will be watching more.
Its made by cutting trees 🌲🌴...😢
this video is the worst 4k ive ever seen
They should add tungsten to the mix so it never breaks.
Seems old. Are Faber Castell still Made in Germany?
This was just stolen from Faber Castell....
Sudden curiosity at 4 am brought me here
I thought most pencils came and sharpened
I LOVE YOUR VIDS! But, DAMMIT, far too many of your vids DO NOT HAVE AUTO-GENERATED CLOSED CAPTIONS, BRAH! Lotta deaf people out there with good engineering mind-sets, so, click on the damn CLOSED CAPTIONS, MAN!
No mask for workers ?
Make me a pencils blue.
Excelente video 👍
That man needs to be wearing a mask
Amazing
I like the sharpening part the most! 🤩
Thanks lot s for sharing 🧡💚❤
At 4:12 it shows the "Sandwhich" containing 7 pieces. You can see it again at 4:26. Each "Sandwhich" looks like the right length for a pencil. Then at 4:59 while it shows its going through the planer, it says "One sandwhich produces up to ten pencils". Can anyone explain how it got 10 out of those 7?
EDIT:Also, what number is 1800 million (@7:08)?
up to ten pieces, meaning ten or *less*
A perfect valid number in countries with long scale numbering systems where million = 1e6 and billion = 1e12 or a million of millions.
what a nerd!
Eye Visual Inspection!
Ok, how are coloured pencils made then?
you just add a pigment to the lead before you extrude it
PPE anyone?
How cool is that!
Wow..
✍️
this one I really enjoyed!!
