Kelowna is in general not a safe City now, thanks to City Council.

Weather is better and addicts don't like things such as curfews, rules, no drinking, etc. Shelters actually try to get these people in but they either don't want to go or get kicked out after a couple days because they can't act like a human.

As a matter of government policy. High taxes and inflation.

Shelters is not the answer. It can even make the problem worse as you gather lots of people with problems in one spot. People need proper housing. Where I live all citizens have access to either housing benefits or government housing. Shelters are mostly for foreigners that run out of money and end up on the street. (Norway)

There has been an influx on "unhoused community members". Absolutely disgusting use of language. They are not community members as they don't belong in the community at all, they do not contribute to the community at all, they only take. They are not unhoused, they are drug addicts who succumbed to their addictions. Only crime and violence can come out of this abomination that the city allows to continue.
Disgraceful, disgusting, and the worst possible use of people's tax money. Shame on you, Kelowna city council.

@@HelenEk7 How should people that commit crimes be dealt with?
How should illegal things be dealt with?
Don't we have the answer for that for ages?
Allowing people that are heavily addicted, have no more free will, and contribute nothing to society to continue feeding their addiction does not sound like the healthy or compassionate thing to do. Not to them, not to us, law-abiding citizens.
I think the correct question is: Why should law-abiding citizens have to deal with them? Why do we have to deal with their violence? Their addictions?
Last week, my family and I had the misfortune of witnessing one of these "unhoused community members" go crazy on a city park. He had a huge machete on his waist. Not 100 feet away, maybe 6 or 7 of these fine people were smoking crack and enjoying the good weather right next to the Okanagan lake.
      Disgusting.

this is a public and common space that is no longer safe to walk with your family or play sports. Today, for the second time, I was harassed while running on the trail. Something needs to be done by the authorities before people decide to do it themselves.
