Armaguet Nad, Speedyq's, Fist of Fury, these guys were the true sound of the free parties in France in the late 90's. Raw, powerfull, industrial, this is probably my favorite techno style. Too bad this style has now been replaced by what we call now "frenchcore" in rave parties, glad there are still some heroes spinning these old gems.
Korben Dallas unfortunate Thing is That if you wanna spin some of these and werent so lucky to get Them decades ago, you might face prices near or over three digits for a record now which has a hc Head decide between food or some quality vinyl :(
Frenchcore is cool too. For example Neurotoxic has great releases :) It's pretty funny seeing someone remniscing of the good ol' real french hardcore days. In my country there was no such thing as a free party in the 90s or even early 2000s. At our parties people usually play tribe & hardtek, try to go harder, faster or with a bit of distortion and lots of hats and people go "meh". :)
It’s good to know that hardcore techno is now mainstream and only a handful of players from the start knew this shit was the future of dance parties and kept it alive👊 like this guy right here! Mad respect ✊
Your knowledge in music is so unreal. I'm 23 years old and fairly new to Industrial/UK Hardcore/..., I literally know 0 tracks of this, but I love your mixes so much! Glad you can give me a glimpse of what I missed back in those days, best music ever and rave on!
soooo fun!!!! it is a war crime u didn't post the tracklist 😭 back to the deep dark corners of discogs i go lol! seriously though labels like dead end and sodom will always have a very special place in my heart -- i remember hearing angel flo's release on dead end limited for the first time and i was instantly sucked into this sphere of music, it wasnt even conscious. the unparalleled chaos and brutality of it all gives way to the oddest feelings of clarity. some of my favorite records of that time i literally fall asleep to now because they feel like such home! theres nothing else like the sound these artists cultivated during that period of time in france, it is very much a piece of me and seeing mixes like these always make me happy for that reason ❤
Keep coming back to this mix again and again. There's something here that was lost along the way I feel. Not that the hardcore of today is worse or boring. There's lots of good new stuff I love, buy and play, but I do think there's an edge here I don't hear anymore. And I'm not saying that out of nostalgia, because I didn't hear this music when I grew up. You can't even sell the kickdrum in this style, which is often the selling point nowadays I feel. It doesn't have the spectacular kicks of today. But still it sounds completely anti-social. I don't know. I'm waxing philosophic about something I don't understand. Does it have a psychedelic edge that most hardcore doesn't anymore? Is it that there's more space in the mix to do more variation in ideas? Maybe I am just old and like older production styles better. *shrug*
I think there's a few different factors at play. Firstly, in terms of ideas, hardcore and gabba became a formula like everything else. In terms of production... samplers and outboard gear have a certain sound/sheen. Sounds weren't compressed and cleaned up within an inch of their life, and kick drums weren't tuned perfectly. Producers used analog mixing desks where they could tweak the EQs a bit but not scoop out entire frequency bands. The old producers had ideas and a vibe, and kind of made do with a decent enough mixdown, they were learning on the job. With modern productions, the knowledge and the technology is there, but the ideas aren't. Maybe because the music isn't such new territory. This isn't a diss btw, I don't hate new music on principle, there's still plenty of good stuff out there. It's just my two cents!
man seeing u buisy gives me the lust to install my technicses again.... i havent turned any record for about 8 years now, depression loss of my parents i just turned away from it, but seeing this gives me the vinyl itch again.... great job m8 !
