  • Surf legend Chuck Corbett aka the Atoll Man renounces his United States citizenship with no country to his name to live the rest of his days in Kiribati. This is the beginning of our long adventure getting to the elusive Island known as Tabuaeran. After our once a week flight to Tabueran canceled due to a mechanical issue, we were questioning whether or not we'd even make it out to the island of our dreams.

@@visionist7 Hi there, we were never issued with eye protection or protection clothing other than being told to sit on the ground with our backs to the detonation point and cover our face with our hands. At detonation the flash was so bright you could see an Xray picture of your hands over your eyes, scary times looking back.

@@ronholfly that’s terrifying, why did you guys even need to be there in the first place ??? I saw a video about this on vice’s channel. It was a bunch of veterans who did the same thing you did back then and they all had a reunion. Most of the people had health issues including cancer. And a lot of people also died young from the complications.

As the very first island to see-in a new day, Sunrise Island would make a better name. There's another Christmas Island west of Australia after all.
Or call it New Year's Island
