the choas marines in the trailer where part of a warband with the insignia of a flail. i forgot the name though. warbands are the chaos version of chapters but dont follow any set structure, could be anywhere from 5 to thousands of marines. the universal sign of chaos in general is the eight arrowed circular design on their puldrons. it represents infinite choice and the chaos such freedom ensues
As a bit of a side note, the space marine chapters featured here are the retributors, the ones from the first astartes and successors of the imperial fists,the scythes of the emperor, the orange and black ones, I believe they are ultramarine successors but I might wrong, the blood angels, the sons of medusa, the green ones, successors of the iron hands, and the mortifactors, the one with the skull face. The morifactors are particularly gnarly especially for ultramarine successors
Yep Scythes are Ultramarines successors, from Sotha. The Blood Angels are actually a successor chapter too, the Angels Vermillion
I'm so glad to see more successor chapters instead of just First Founding ones. There's so many cool and unique chapters that get overshadowed by the big ones

The yellow-brown suits with the one that turned invisible were Tau stealth suits. Having read the article on GW community site this trailer is a glimpse of the past of the characters in it, and it would seem that it will be a Deathwatch kill team with marines from those 5 chapters.

So you have a Stormeagle dropship descending into a hive city.
Then a mass gathering in what could look like the interior of a cooling tower, but would be a vertical air circulation shaft in the underhive. And any exhorting Astartes with outstretched arms and "Spiky Bitz Armor", that screams Chaos traitor riling up the unwashed masses of Chaos cultists. Most any Astartes in spiky armor, Chaos.
The yellow armored chaps are Tau. In particular, Tau in stealth armor as you see one fade out but his buddy not as quick. This is followed with a pair of Predator tanks barreling down the highway, the rear one letting loose a missile you see leap away like a Javelin.
The unhelmed Astartes is from the Retributors, which was the Chapter, and Syama’s personal creation, from the first Astartes. For all we know, maybe he’s the Sergeant that blew his hand off, got sucked into the Orb, and deposited in that necropolis valley on the planet below.
From Warhammer Community we are seeing snippets of the stories of the five main characters before the series story begins. The chapters seen are: Retributors, Blood Angels (or a successor like Angels Vermillion)(also the blue helmet may be an indicator of rank), Scythes of the Emperor (seen fighting the Tyranids, a Hive fleet having destroyed their chapter world in the past so,…lots of issues a history here), Sons of Medusa (not to be confused with the Sons of Anarchy, they are seen fighting the Tau and driving the tanks), and finally our Marine with anger issues and the Punisher motif who will get in a scrum with orks and repeatedly face punch a tyranid warrior would be a Mortificator.
"Many brotherhoods, united in purpose. We are the shield that slays." Five Astartes, five different chapters. All showing previous experience fighting xenos. The Inquisition rosette on the helmet to Terminator armor. "Suffer not the alien to live." This is all the hallmarks of the Deathwatch, the Chamber Militant for the Ordo Xenos of the Inquisition. It takes veteran Astartes from all chapters to serve in mixed Kill Teams so as to best utilize the combined knowledge and training from across the Adeptus Astartes to combat "the alien". Primarily. Since we all know agencies like to have turf wars. So "Astartes II" will likely be these five together on a Deathwatch Kill Team.

The Orks with camo on their faces are probably Ork Kommandos, special forces Orks.

They're not. Kommandos are Purple. So you can't see them. Probably Snake Bite clan, they do camo iirc.

As you may be aware time works differently in the warp so he could be, in real terms, 10,000 years old or more probably he's using old hand me down equipment. In the post Heresy era called the scouring the traitor legions were hunted down and had to steal and scavenge equipment as they were on the run so most of their armour tends to look older.

"The shield that slays" is the name of a piece of artwork depicting the Deathwatch. So this is totally what we're seeing. The teaser is who they all were before, the Chapters they were part of. And then Astartes II will be a story featuring those characters all together as one Kill Team. "Suffer not the alien to live" makes it even more crystal clear - the purpose of the Deathwatch is killing aliens.

@@dpatriot4130 As Far as Ultramarines Successor's go. The Mortifactors and Silver Skulls are... among the odd ones out. There's a lot of speculation going that they are Blackshields, Loyal to the Emperor sons of Traitor Primarchs, that just got slotted in by Guilliman and everybody outside of the room where the Primarchs decided that were told, "It's tote's fine, don't worry about the Gene-Seed Variation."

Also just a bit of vindication for me:
This was never cancelled. Some people just got really pissy with GW and kept parroting the rumor that Syama, the dude who made the first one left on bad terms with Gw as they never let him do anything.
That, of course, was based on no official source and pure speculation.
You can have doubts whether the show was still happening but some of these people really thought GW only hired Syama because astartes was making them look bad, so decided to lock him in a room and never make him do anything.
What delusion.

You can always tell the newer hobby members. They don't remember back to The Scythes Of The Emperor showing up on Dakka Dakka's modeling threads in their orange and black, I don't know at least 20 years ago.

Possibly although I can't make out any Nurgle iconography. I was thinking because it looks like Mk II Crusade pattern power armor it might actually be an Iron Warrior.
@@Corusame Or Black Legion. As far as i know, Iron Warriors have skull machinery on their left pauldron along with the black and yellow stripes on the right. It also makes sense for a Black Legion to unite whole chaos cultist cause they are "The Undivided" and the opposite of Ultramarines in terms of jack of all trades.
But i can only make that assumption of being a Death Guard since their wear that armor and bulky, that or reminds me of Space Marine 2 PvP Nurgle armor based class

Yup its a hive world. damn i hate these are just backgrounds for characters in the actual show/movie. i could watch a series about each of those segments.
i wonder if the series is about them fighting chaos marines in the depths of that hive city. that pit with the fire and the chaos space marines standing over the crowds down there make me think its some bottom segment of a hive city.
either way I'm excited to see more of this. if this is a teaser I cant wait for a proper trailer.
