Trackpad rules because of gestures, you can use it on consoles in tight spaces, and the experience is the same when you are on a laptop/mobile rig.

It's just content. He hasn't even delved into the capabilities of a logitech mouse. Didn't even learn that the maximum resolution is six times that of apple. And while showing the mouse he poked several times at the button that changes the resolution of the mouse. Interesting review from a person who does not understand how the mouse works.

    • @ColtCapperrune
      @ColtCapperrune  8 часов назад +3

@@Silvaticus.Forest extending the resolution up to 8KDPI does nothing for cursor repeatability. If I move this mouse in exactly the same way 10 times, I will get 10 different cursor locations. I’ll be it, very similar, but it is worse than the Apple mouse. In addition, on the default button assignments, none of the buttons are set to control cursor speed. You can set it that way, but this is not the default.
Just because I didn’t describe in great detail every single option, this mouse has, doesn’t mean I didn’t test it. But thanks for the assumption. 🤡

Colt, I watched your video and really appreciate all of your pros and cons comments!
The one thing I wish you would have talked about is each mouse’s adaptability to operating with either left hand or right hand. Before I retired (chemical engineer) I spent most of my work day interacting with very large Excel spreadsheets, Word document reports, Outlook E-mail, etc. I found that it was crucial for me to periodically switch between mousing with my right hand and mousing with my left hand in order to avoid repetitive motion injury to my thumb/fingers/hand/wrist. Rightly or wrongly, I suspect you may not encounter this and I’m guessing you always mouse with your right hand (as most people do).
I don’t know how easily this hand orientation can be switched on each of the 4 mice, but I can tell that the exaggerated shape of the Logitech mouse (i.e., indented contour for thumb) makes it right-hand-ONLY use, and it also puts your thumb in an ergonomically unnatural position below/underneath your index finger. For me personally, I see this as a very significant con. Hope your channel subscribers find this a helpful consideration. - Greg.

Best thing about the trackball for me, as someone who records myself a lot, I like that I can just hover the pointer over the the record button and it stays there. You can then just hit your right click button to start recording and the cursor won’t move.

Biggest pro to the trackpad is the OS gestures. Pinching with multiple fingers, swiping with four fingers can be configured for rapid app switching, desktop switching and more. The corners can be setup as buttons. Etc etc. And scrolling the DAW window in any direction with two fingers! Nothing else I’ve tried comes close to all this.

Kensington Trackball user here. Battery lasts months on one LiPo or NiMH AA batteries. The lateral scrolling you didn't know exist - press Shift. I've also got the ball customized to scroll 90° or 180° when I press CTRL. Really handy when you want to go straight up on timeline not shifting a notch. Or draw a square in ProTools. 😂
And you forgot to tell how handy a ball mouse can be when mixing desk got no space for a mouse pad. I do like the trackpad. But after operating my wrist from RSI, it's the ball that keeps blood on my fingers and thumb flowing. Ortho suggested an Evoluent 3 wrist upright mouse.. I hated it. The ball it is. 8 years in.

Hey Colt, love the videos and the channel. Respectfully, I want to say you have a lot of info wrong the Expert Mouse. First, it’s not $170, it $92 with the pad on Amazon. Also, it does not require a dongle. Bluetooth works fine. It’s very customizable with up to 8 commands with the buttons. Your wrist barely moves as the ball movement is more in the fingers. Side scrolling can be done with a key command. If you try their Slimblade, it is rechargeable. Obviously there is a learning curve and some fatigue in the first few weeks as you are using different muscles and your hand/ arm has to adjust. I was pretty anti-track ball for a long time but saw it in a lot of studios. I figured I’d give it a good two week trial. After about three or four days, I loved it! I would never go back to the regular mouse given the choice. I have two of them and I use the included pad on one and a more traditional, gel style wrist rest with the other. Both worked great. I understand it’s not for everyone, and it sounds like it’s not for you, but just thought it’d be nice to correct a couple things and share a long time users experience. It’s also really nice because you can customize it to particular apps. I have several of my Cubase controls mapped out to different buttons, which makes the workflow all that much better.
Thanks for the video and all you do!

I’ve been using the Kensington Trackball mouse for over a decade. I’ve experimented with both wired and wireless versions, as well as with and without the detachable pad. As a photographer and graphic designer, I’ve tried various types of mice. While Wacom tablets are incredible, they can cause discomfort for some users. In contrast, the trackball mouse is ergonomically designed since it remains stationary. This makes it particularly useful for editing photos, as clicking with your thumb is incredibly efficient when performing tasks like clone stamping or airbrushing images.

Kensington Expert Mouse and Logitech MX Master 3S mouse user here :) Kensington is great, great for aimin the cursor precisely for highlighting audio waveforms... etc. Infinite horizontal/veritcal scrolling along with axis locking is a killer combo. One negative thing: cursor speed and axis lock shortcuts always conflict with DAWs' shortcuts doing weird things accidentally. You may have to change basic shortcuts of DAWs such as duplicating clips.
Logitech MX Master 3S' signal is interfered with MX Keys S keyboard when using both of their dongles. Mouse become laggy and keyboard keys become sticky and stays pressed for a long time. Weird behaviors. Bluetooth connection would be better experience for those couple. Side scrolling is not useful as a trackball, but you can always alter standard infinite scroll whell to horizontal when needed.
Finally, I'm still using Kensington Expert Mouse in daily PC use. It was hard to get used to, but worth the time.

As someone who works in IT and has rsi pain, I left all of these. Mice that move are terrible and trackpads aren’t precise enough. The Kensington trackballs are subpar. The best I have found are the elecom deft pro and the elecom huge. Both have great support, smooth large trackballs, more customizable options than nearly any other options, are inexpensive and they keep the ball where it should be which is under your index and middle finger rather than your thumb. If you’re going for ergonomics and usability for tens of thousands of hours of use, I have to say for modern options these can’t be beat. Sure they take a minute to get used to, but then some of us took the time to learn keyboard layouts other than qwerty so learning a trackball is a cakewalk.

I find the Logi MX Ergo the best find for me. Stationary ie no moving around the desk surface, thumb trackball, not a lot of wrist movement, customization, two positions for comfort , assignable buttons/ descent software. Tracball responds nicely and easy to clean, charges quickly holds charge long time, able to use while charging.

Second this statement - I have two MX Ergos, one in my engineering lab, one in my studio. Not as functional as trackpads and the magic mouse, but I have a macropad for any expanded functionality missing from the mouse/trackball. Also, both MacOS and Windows have a scroll acceleration function which allows you to have high precision when you move the ball slowly, but when you speed up or "flick" the trackball, you can cover the entire width of either 1 or 2 side-by-side screens with one swipe.

I feel it is really all personal preference. I have spent time making video games for a living, and have done 3D Modelling. Plenty of my friends and fellow creators liked the track ball. I tried it, they just felt too tedious for me.
I absolutely think Apple was sleeping when they decided to put the charge port on the bottom. For that reason I havent used my apple magic mouse in several years, and now cant even find the charging cord!
But, I am a PC guy for the most part, and the apple mouse doesn't seem to work on my PC. I just prefer my Logitech M510. I also have a Logitech G602 as a backup. It is more like your Logitech there, where the M510 is a low profile simple mouse. It works for me though!

I've used the Logitech MX Ergo Plus for years. While I do a fair bit of audio and video work, the majority of my use is in 3d mechanical modeling software.
For me one of the best features is that I can keep my arm and palm fully supported, only needing to move my thumb and fingers. Another advantage is that it does require a mouse pad or clear spot on a flat surface. This is crucial when working on the road with less than ideal desk setups.

I am a trackpad user all the time. My trick to not having to keep my wrist up is to use the lower half of the trackpad most of the time and keep my hand resting on the desk. That makes it more similar to using it on a laptop, where I keep my wrist on the wrist rest and use my thumbs for the trackpad from the side.

Team ExpertMouse for decades! i used to have problems with my wrist. since i got used to the expert trackball, there have never been any problems again. however, it took a while, you have to get used to it first. the problem with the speed can be adjusted, slow movement “precise” fast movement of the ball “poof you're at the other end of the screen”. you can adjust this in the software.

I love the Magic Mouse, the scrolling wins all day including the horizontal scroll, and the pointer accuracy is great, but I ran out of space on my desk, due adding the 3 SSL Uxx controllers, and so switched to the Magic Trackpad (after trying the Kensington trackball),, I also added a wrist rest, so I don’t have to suspend my hand in between gestures. Works great. I’ve tried the Logitech mouse also, but agree the scroll is glitchy and the horizontal scroll can’t touch the Apple devices.

Coming from a trackpad/magic mouse user for 10 years, I switched to the Logitech about a year ago. My wrist pain is nonexistent unless it’s like a 15 hour day and I haven’t noticed the button sensitivity you’re talking about, and I have massive hands. I have noticed the scrolling thing though, it just doesn’t bother me.
Now I will say I greatly prefer a trackpad on a laptop over anything else. But the standalone trackpad is just in an awkward spot for me. I’ve tried wrist pads and everything and I just don’t like the angle. On a laptop I approach the trackpad kind of sideways and rest my wrist on the body of the computer

I use apple trackpad. Best part for me is my desk is always full of crap. Right now looking at a pile of possibly broken patch cables to the left. A notebook on the right. A mini midi keyboard next to that. Bluetooth apple keyboard in front of me. Faderport on the right. There’s absolutely no room for any kind of mouse that has to move round the desk. And even if there sometimes was space, 20 minutes later there wouldn’t be and I’d probably be resorting to throwing crap behind me to get it off the desk just to use the mouse comfortably.

I have Kensington Orbit and it is stored in my cable box because even with the wrist rest my wrist gets all tensed because the hand being on the ball is higher than the wrist. Apple trackpad is winner for me. I have it slightly angled opposite from me and a small wrist rest in front of it made of monitor isolation foam. That way my hand falls under the wrist level and it is in its natural position.

I just use a random old dell wired mouse, it's just what I'm used to and works perfectly for me. I also have a lot of experience of using a DAW with a trackpad, and mostly love the experience, however I hate having to use a trackpad to click and drag an object somewhere, it just feels awkward to me personally.

I use the trackpad built into my MacBook with my right hand, and a Logitech Mx ergo with my right. It's basically the Mx master 3 but vertical for less wrist pain. For logic Pro, it's a 10/10 for me. Would reccomend!

You used the wrong Kensington, The Slimblade is the one you need (if you want a trackball). Nowhere near as chunky, no wrist pad needed. USB C charging, bluetooth with no dongle. almost every con from the Kensington expert doesn't apply to the Slimblade. For me, the small amount of real estate needed is huge.

The cool thing about the trackball is that you can program it to lock horizontal or vertical track with any chosen button combo. Basically, i have it so if i hold the top left button and then roll up/down on the ball- it works like a fader! 🎚️ No need for a fader controller.

I’m a trackball user. I don’t use the expert though. The slimblade pro trackball is way better than the trackball pro expert and there’s a rechargeable option. You don’t have to use a USB dongle it works with Bluetooth. It is smoother, the scroll is way better, and the responsiveness of the mouse is just overall better. You can scroll to the sides just using shift on your keyboard btw. Also I love you can customize different shortcuts per application.

I speed up my workflow at least 3x just because I change to mx 3 and leave away the magic mouse. It has gestures. All of them, is just a setting thing and it's thousands times more accurate than the apple one, that's why it is considered the best productivity mouse in the market, not only for music production. There is ton of videos that confirm this. But "gustos colores"

I'm ambidextrous and I like to switch back and forth which hand I use for cursor control. I can't use a mouse like the Logitech since it is only suited for right-handed use. I like using symmetrical mice (or nearly symmetrical mice). I'm currently using a Razor Orochi v2, which is working pretty well as an ambidextrous mouse. The side buttons on the left side can kind of irritate the left ring finger where they rub against them when I'm using it with the left hand, but it isn't too bad.
I have an Apple Magic Mouse (the OG one with AA batteries). It's very comfortable and perfectly ambidextrous, but the thing I hate about it are the two long skid rails underneath. They collect so much more dust from the desktop than any other mouse design.

Bahhh as a big gamer I've bought 30+ gaming mice. Of these choices presented I'd choose none. It's like comparing apple keyboard to premium mechanical keyboards not even in the same universe. Logitechs come with omron switches which are a standard light fast click. Kailh 8.0 switches are heavier click and so satisfying!

Magic Mouse is king. Charging is def an issue, but I keep 2 and just rotate them in and out as needed. Kensington SUCKS - the worst mouse. Quick ergo tip for those who have it - Ditch the wrist pad and find a way to get the mouse angled downward (in a keyboard tray / titled stand). Game changer for sure. ALSO, for all mouse users, try to stop using your wrist and use your arm. Fellow guitar players, you're welcome :)

I use the MX Master 3S, and I've had some issues with the accidental clicks. If I accidentally click left and right at the same time, the cursor gets, hidden behind the window using S1 V6 on a M2 Mac Mini. I'm still trying to figure out how to "un-hide" the cursor when that happens, without closing the session and reopening it again.

I find the Apple Mouse horrible. I used to swear by it until I bought a Corsair mouse. The face captures input if you accidentally touch the sides (claw grip), and the biggest part if i switch between the two the corsair is waaaay more precise at pointing at smaller areas. I love the scrolling of the apple mouse but I just can't live with the accidental inputs when claw gripping. I have two apple mice, gen1 and gen2 and they both suck equally lol.

Apple has designed the Magic Mouse with a fixed DPI resolution that is estimated to be around 1300 DPI.
Logitech MX 3S nominal value: 1000 DPI
DPI (Minimal and maximal value): 200-8000 DPI (can be set in increments of 50 DPI)
I have extreme wonder how in 1,000 hours of use you haven't found how to switch the resolution of a higher resolution mouse which is more than six times the resolution of a mouse from apple.

    • @ColtCapperrune
      @ColtCapperrune  8 часов назад +1

Extending the resolution up to 8KDPI does nothing for cursor repeatability. If I move this mouse in exactly the same way 10 times, I will get 10 different cursor locations. I’ll be it, very similar, but it is worse than the Apple mouse in repeatability.
Just because I didn’t explicitly go into every option, the Logitech mouse has, doesn’t mean I didn’t test it. But thanks for assuming something you know nothing about, and didn’t bother to ask.

The Apple Magic mouse is the worst mouse ever period, I worked in computers over 35 years, I have use many mice back to the original Apple mouse on the Apple Lisa computer. Weirdest was my first gig in audio using a DAW the guy who mentored me used a trackball on the right side of the keyboard and a mouse on the left. Insane watching him no rhyme or reason to which one he was going to use or what.
