This video is very timely for me. I ruptured my patellar tendon in a non-running activity....fixing my deck to be exact... on 08/03/2024. I will cross train like a madman for the next several months but we runners all know that there is no substitute for running and ill definitely lose fitness. I'm planning a December comeback which makes it 4 months.

You have no idea how much I needed this video at this very moment! As I'm contemplating running my first 5k tommorrow morning. After not being able to run for the past 6 weeks from plantar fasciitis!😢 Thank you!!!❤

Cross training not only helps physically, it also helps a lot mentally. When you're injured and cannot run we all know how stressful that is.
Anyway my respect for staying strong during 8 long months off running 💪 . It's crazy that you kept such a good running performance.

    Post-covid I couldn't run for...3 years!
It has taken a frustrating year of going through all the beginners problems again but I'm pleased to say im back to running consistently again and improving every day!
Congrats on being fit enough to race again!

Great video. I think one of the hardest things about returning after injury isn’t just the time you lose but it’s how tough it feels to even get close to the previous times, especially as you get older. It’s like you lose that ability to deal mentally and physically with the discomfort whereas when you’re fit, you can almost enjoy pushing to your limits

So true! As I tell my daughters it’s all about embracing the process and finding joy in the craft.

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. So you haven't been running, at all, for 8-months, but you've been doing cross training. Then your very first time running after 8-months, and you go out and do an 8K?

Apologies for not being clear. I wasn’t able to run consistently for 8 months since Nov 2023. At around 6.5months I started jog:/walking then for 3weeks before the race I had run 3 x week building up to 10km.
