Your second pronunciation for Erlitou is actually correct XD. Tou should be pronounced as "tow". Missing the old times when I played this game but sadly I can't find a good way to play on MacBook now. Thank you for this Let's play series!!
If I may, I would like to suggest you build an extra warehouse whenever you have the workforce for it, and not set too strict limits on what it accepts. That you way should always have room for gifts as well as room for whatever 'extra' you produce. This is especially true with crops that come once a year and then fill your warehouses and then slowly empty because you have to wait a full year to get more. Also, keeping the gods happy should be easier that way. Anyway, I really like your videos!
Tip: The higher the grade of the product offered is directly proportional to the boost of the deity's mood. Giving carved jade is better than giving ceramics but ceramics is better than fish UNLESS you don't have the higher grade available. So if you don't have ceramics, fish will do just fine until ceramics become available. Once it does, fish will no longer be good enough. At least, it seemed that way to me.
That's why it's called a management game. You have to make sure you are feeding your people and giving them what they need so that they can work to make stuff you can sell for money to buy the really good stuff your people want.
From what I've been able to find out it affects your popularity, makes homage offerings more or less effective, and might have something to do with health.

Fish is a very 'low-end' type of gift. It makes the gods happy when starting out, but becomes less effective when you have better goods in the city.

How annoying, if your access to the new thing is only because you're buying it really expensively for quest objective.

Really actually in cases like this "just managing to get stuff for mission objectives at the end" but sure.
