YES! I thought ooh that's a KW period I wasn't familiar with, and then immediately felt a bit of an idiot. The idiot just blushed and crossed his legs the other way.* *my apologies...that was utterly terrible, but obligatory
The interviewer is by far the best I have seen! She masterfully changes subjects so naturally and REALLY LISTENS to the subject. This is one of the best interviews I have seen with Kenneth Williams.
Thanks for posting this wonderful interview, the first part as much as this. I absolutely adore him. Anyone who has read the diaries will know what a sharp mind he had but to see him here in full flow is mesmerising. And as for being unhappy with his looks - I wish I could have told him he is absolutely beautiful. Look at him here: 1974, 48 years old, and long before botox too. Lovely in every way.
aldridga611 You have a lovely kind heart my friend.I agree with you 100 % Kenneth had it all the looks the charm the sense of humour...the quick wit...and he lived his life the way he wanted to quiet and he had every right to have what ever he wanted in life including loving who ever he wanted to love even a pink elephant with two heads....he should have been knighted by her Majesty and I hope he was. My dream was to meet this lovely Man...unfortunately I am disabled..and not in a financial position at the moment to go to London to see the Queen and all the hollabarloo as I call all the famous people...but I do have a Telegram in my possession...that I bid for and paid quite a price...I just had to have it and he has signed it its Kenneth saying I am sorry I can't attend the party..on Saturday night but will still meet up for drinks on Friday at some Pub he names I am so happy I have it xx
Always found Kenneth a very funny fellow indeed! And the way, his voice would always change, from posh to cockney, and back again....one very rare talent.
Yes! Also, isn't it lovely seeing interviewers who are so skilled in drawing out their subjects. Their own ego disappears as the interview isn't about them.
Aww thanks for both parts of this interview. Haven't seen it before. Kenneth seems really comfortable talking to Mavis. She is a superb interviewer. Ta muchly
It's really interesting to see the great KW speaking at normal speed rather than the 500mph he often did. Perhaps he was more relaxed here, or he hadn't quite got to the point where he felt he had to behave like a caricature of himself, as he did so often on TV towards the end of his sadly short life.
Andy JS Not being an acclaimed stage actor, the meagre pay he got from the films that typecast him, the loss of his Christian faith, his inability to form close personal relationships or enjoy sex, his colossal ego, and the drying up of his career.
@@ajs41 Michael Sheen did a brilliant portrayal of him based on his personal diaries, which reveal much of his inner turmoil: "Kenneth Williams: Fantabulosa."
This dude was a comic genious. Appreciated (considering the date) how much self interspection he shared. Put it down to he could make me laugh. Laughter is wellness.
Despite your comment being 12yrs old, I feel compelled to say that there is no such word as 'interspection'. The word you mean is 'INTROSPECTION' ! A small error some might say, but never the less it is important to use the correct word, as it erodes your credibility and renders your comment irredeemably stupid.
Kenneths meegrums/ facial contortions, rub off on to mavis, she does what he does, look again, ....im still madly in love with mavis, and always will be, i cant think of a better interviewer for ken.
I don't think it would be wise to post the entire show, as it is currently commercially available and therefore subject to copyright restrictions. You can get it very cheaply on Ebay, though, so it might be worth looking there for a dvd copy.
I don't think people do. They do state that he was tortured by it ( it's in his diaries which were compiled into a book) & he never had a relationship: as it was a huge part of his psyche .
Two totally, utterly lovely people.
This interviewer is wonderful, she is genuinely interested in her guests which is disarming and gets them talking.
Stephen Fry, who thinks himself an elevated version, is not even the palest shadow of the inimitable Kenneth Williams
It's possible to appreciate both.
I don"t think that Stephen considers he is anything like Kenneth..
I've never heard Stephen Fry comparing himself to anyone. He's a one off, as was Kenneth.
Am I the only one who thought the Thumbnail (photo advertising this interview) was a photo of a younger trendier 1970’s Kenneth?
Got me too. I thought "I don't remember him ever looking like THAT"
guilty

I can't stand innuendo. If I see one in a script I whip it out immediately.
Kenneth Williams
Total Legend

Mavis Nicholson
I think he was completely adorable and fabulous. I would have loved to be his friend. So missed.
Mavis Nicholson
What a loss. I wish we'd known him better.

@@stellaorvad2519 Don't be too jealous, but Ken once had me behind the huge bins at the back of Sainsbury's in Swiss Cottage.
Always found Kenneth a very funny fellow indeed! And the way, his voice would always change, from posh to cockney, and back again....one very rare talent.
he was an extremely intelligent man who could talk about almost any subject.
Modern celebrity seems so vapid in comparison.
Beautiful people with no depth or interest.
Yes! Also, isn't it lovely seeing interviewers who are so skilled in drawing out their subjects. Their own ego disappears as the interview isn't about them.
What a lovely interview - she appreciated him as a person and didn’t just prompt him to rattle off the party pieces about Dame Edith etc.
Brilliant.

Person from 14 years ago , do you mind if I borrow ' ta muchly'? Ta muchly !
Someone needs to post Mavis' amazingly revealing interview with Vivian Stanshall and Spike Milligan. I would love to see that again. So sad.

A good interviewer who steered clear of the usual clichéd questions that he was asked. It was more like a chat than an interview.
very wise man with insight into the human condition.

If not his own flaws.
He talks about sadness as if he knew about it deeply.
Which of course he did.
What was he sad about?

@@PetroicaRodinogaster264 a little unkind..
What a wonderfully honest interview from Williams.
Defintely one of the gr8 intrerviews of all time.....thanxxxxxxxxx
A fabulously complex, intelligent, troubled man. Go read the Kenneth Williams Diaries if you haven't already. Requiescat in pace, Kenneth x
Not only talking but actually saying something
"Freetening, absolutely freetening. We saw you go; the bloomers and everything......"
..great, thankyou for sharing.. what is the black rectangle?
An incredibly deep intelligent person.

What does?
oh, wonderful Kenny
His inferiority was solely due to his sexuality... but he fears expressing what he knows directly
Mavis Nicholson RIP 1930- 2022
Bless him. He was such a conflicted person but he gave so much joy to so many of us. I wish I could give him a haned and lift him out of his mire.
They look exactly alike to me.
Life is all memory
B.S. he was and he knew,it an attractive, dashing person.
A true Legend
He was so intelligent and knowledgeable.
Why does everyone attack him on his sexuality, he stated many times he was celibate
I don't think people do. They do state that he was tortured by it ( it's in his diaries which were compiled into a book) & he never had a relationship: as it was a huge part of his psyche .
@FreyaBlack because his father used to put him down?
GIVE ME THE BOX
Loving the Coral Browne crack! Vincent Prices' missus.
When someone black out half the video to hide where they stole it from :/
looks like his twin sister
Is this woman the mother of Nicky Wire ? She doesn’t sound Welsh 🤷
Nah,she has a lovely Welsh accent ! :-)
Odd - she looks like him
shes a very annoying interviewer i think, she seems to like the sound of her own voice.

Nonsense
There is no evidence of this whatsoever.
thanks for posting, it was really interesting :o)
great interview, really interesting - thanks for uploading
