The fact that during this fight enemies are considerably weaker to melee attacks is just Cohen asking you to put your fancy weapons away and start to dance.
I had never noticed it, but now that you say it, while I was hitting enemies with my melee as I had instinctively pulled out my wrench and "started dancing", I guess it was considerably easier.

Bioshock always has great music to add to their settings. You kill the splicers to Waltz of the Flowers, you find a man being tortured by ravens to Bach's Air on G string, and fight a screaming ghost who sings Lacrimosa in Infinite.
for people that dont listen to classical music , tue reason Sander likes it its because not only classical music is music bit also can always tell a story even in chaos can tell the story the crescendos as you fight your way through cohen goons in such a lovely play of destruction , Cohen LOVES THAT
Bioshock has to be one of the greatest MASTERPIECES! I just loved the mystery, the dark utopian city of Rapture, and all the inhabitants! There's just so much history to be uncovered from the rubble. This is what drawn me to this game and if it weren't for my brother renting this from Blockbuster I would've never played this!!! "Would you kindly" words that will be engraved in my mind for the rest of my life on this earth! Now, Would you kindly go to Ryan's office and kill the son of a bitch!
They just released the entire collection remastered with all kinds of behind the scenes directors commentary, interviews, a literal museum in rapture where you can see all the abandons ideas that didn't make, it "the protector trials" mode, the minervas den dlc and the detective dlc which are 8 hours long each.. What more could you possibly want?
Could you imagine audiences flocking to theatres in the early days of Rapture to watch the Nutcracker ballet? I totally dig the whole aesthetic of that era in general but to think about it when it's at the bottom of the sea is wicked cool, I only wish I could have seen Rapture in its prime.
For a game over a decade old, it still retains itself very well. Played this level over and over again. Yes, the 00 shotgun was my main as was the wrench with xtra damage.
This battle was probably my most fun fight in Bioshock I've ever had, maybe best in my gaming history! XD I WAS LITERALLY HOPPING AROUND KILLING SPLICERS WHILE SPINNING!!! I WAS BASICALLY DANCING!
I used the wrench, Tommy gun, and shotgun. When I went through Cohen's outburst. It was pretty fun, though looking back I wish that damn big daddy didn't fucking, mess up the rhythm of it... Well shit, I might be as "unique" as Cohen. Lol
This music 🎶 over the sound of the shotgun versus the splicers is just pure bliss - one ☝️ of my favourite video game 🎮 moments in my entire life period.
Waltz of The Flowers has a big sentimental meaning for me since I was a kid for different reasons, when I first heard it on Bioshock during the Sander Cohen mission I almost started to cry, the game was probably the best I experienced until that point, and then it used this music, simply a masterpiece.
Cohen my man!! How you been? Still crazy, i know...... Dance! DANCE! DANCE!!!!!!!!!! NOO NO NOOO ITS ALL WRONG I WANT A MASTERPIECE. NO ROOM FOR THE ARTISSSSSST!!!!
I don't know why but this scene combined with the music made me think of what Fort Frolic was like before it fell apart. Makes you feel pity for the splicers and what happened to them.
I want to take the ears off... But I caaan't!! PLEEASEE, TAKE THEM OFFFF AAAAAAAAH. I loved the scene where this piece plays, it was brilliant. The way me and the splicers were moving about in our fight was almost like a dance. The spotlight was great as well. One of the best moments in gaming, IMO.
I remember killing enemies while dancing, doing spins, jumping around, doing fancy moves etc. with my wrench and plasmids for fancy effects. It was so perfect.
Any sole person who has endeavored the cunning and endangering depths within the city of rapture shall never forget among many glorious and treacherous interactions alike, the name "Sander Cohen"; for it will be permanently engraved into the mind's eye regardless of mental state.
That's an amazing fanart as well as a great theme from Tchaikovsky which fix frightening excelent with this great and so deeply emotional and talented character from BioShock series.
I remember this part, I had both wrench damage upgrades equipped, so I ditched the guns and went to town on the splicers , I may have done a few spins and twirls, smashed there skulls in as the rythm picked up...shoot down those worthless flying turrets for blocking out the symphony and breaking my rhythm , who cares if there mine!, there interrupting perfection! , and to finish my master piece, I shocked , burned , froze then smashed the final splicer into bits..the perfect end to my magnificent show ......oh shit I'm just as insane as cohen
When that music started playing i just started running and jumping around the map w'ill wacking every splicer i saw with a wrench i basically danced happily w'ill basically committing murder
if people wanted to ask me what insanity sounded like .it would be killing a bunch of insane splicers for the entertainment of a mad painter to the song waltz of the flowers i felt like a deranged psychopath while killing them
This is the best part. I wish the shotgun had unlimited clip size to start something that only the music could end. This masterpiece is hard proof that videogames can surely be art.
crow bar + power wrench running in the upper stairs and swinging at anyone that came your way while jumping was the most hilarious thing i have ever experienced. 1:46 swing,1:49 swing, 1:54 swing
I'm already a big fan of Tchaikovsky and when I arrived at this part in the game, I just sat there with a huge grin on my face blasting away at splicers. It was perfect
"Smile! Smile!" =P I love Tchaikovsky's music, ever since I heard it on Fantasia, magical and wonderful. Sometimes like with Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy it's Christmasy too.
One of the most memorable parts of the game. I expected Cohen to backstab me, but not so early. Combine that with the desperation of fighting spider splicer after spider splicer, the delightfully twisted music choice and the odd grace of the whole affair, and this was the defining part of Fort Frolic.
Wait, so this is truly the version that they used in the game? That's very surprising, it's clearly a live recording, you can hear numerous people coughing and other background noise. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I am just surprised. incredibly moving performance, and an equally moving game :)

I heard early playtesters did that too, which the game devs loved.
I did that with my machine gun and wrench.
