I always think people should listen to The Beatles in chronological order in order to understand the genius, evolution and influence but they put out hundreds of songs in just 7 years so, it’s a lot. Most people can’t pick favorites let alone agree on which are “the best.” They’re all so good. ❤ (BTW, the guy’s name is George Harrison.)

@@patticrichton1135 Heartily agree, start with the BBC sessions, when they were doing RnB covers ala The Stones at the same (ish) time , the journey through Help to Sgt Pepper, White Album is epic ... this I just love to bits , so much going on musically , so tight musically, but vocally tight n overbearingly "easy" , such a solid parting shot towards the end of their reign ... and they look like (again) they're really enjoying it ( as are the "Plod" lol) ... love how George is proper cracking up over "Done me good" lol

@@cjwhiterabbit1 Actually the audio was dubbed on this video, or at least for that line. They did two takes of that song on the rooftop and others of course, in the studio. The reason George is laughing, (and they all were sort of) was because John forgot the line and just sang gibberish. Being the pros that they were, they just carried on without missing a beat and John 'regrouped' for the final bit. I'm not intending to nitpick but rather just pointing out what I found to be an interesting little fact about the Fab Four.

On the Australian top 40 The Beatles held #1 position from 28th December 1963 to 13th June 1964. At one point in late May/early June the fab four had 4 songs in the top 5.
The odd song was Peter & Gordon's "World Without Love" written by Lennon & McCartney. Peter Asher's sister, Jane was dating Paul at that time.

I've listened to The Beatles for over 50 years. George Harrison's career after The Beatles is well worth checking out. He not only had some great solos like, While My Guitar Gently Weeps and My Sweet Lord, but he was in The Travelling Willburys with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne. Some great music with much talent!

It would probably be good to start with their early stuff, which is fantastic and then follow them through their middle and later periods, where it's just one masterpiece after another! Lennon an McCartney are widely recognised as being the greatest songwriters of the modern era and probably of all-time, for very good reason. George Harrison was right up there, with them, too! The fact that all 3 were in the same band, is just insane! :)

I know this is a year in already, but I always tell people to start from the beginning with the Beatles..and, when I say beginning, I'm really talking about '64, on through to '70. Then onto their solo careers, where a lot of good music came out of, as well..When you go from that point on you can see how they grew with every album, every song..I grew up witnessing it all. Take my word for it, that time was special..13 albums, and over 200 songs in 6 years..Amazing time! That's all I'll say..Enjoy!

This concert, on the rooftop, was only two weeks before I was born, end of Jan’ 1969 (I appeared in Feb’) -so, yes, you are late to the adventure. Welcome 🎸😎🍷⏰
The Beatles stopped touring in 1966, yet had done some solo performances, and thought of doing a big concert after the recording of “Get back/Let it Be” (remaster sound and film by P.Jackson). They decided to go “up on the roof” in January, in London.
They had an American friend, Billy Preston, join them on piano/keys’ for this session. He is in the Rock Hall too, a great talent. If you rewatch, he is only seen like twice -with Police behind his keys’. The London Police were called, as this was during the day, and the Lads were disrupting office work, with this Rock music. Paul and Ringo, have since said they wished the Police had hauled them off the roof, as the film crew was there. A Police did unplug one Amp’ which annoyed the Beatle, you couldn’t name, George Harrison. George replugged his Amp’ and carried on. The Beatles last performance, Jan.30, 1969,…a half hour, in British Winter, of Rock Glory!! As, Lennon says at the end “I hope we passed the audition!” 🎸😎🥃

As far as the next Beatles song you should hear, for another surprising more obscure rocker you could do I Want You (She's So Heavy), or Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for me and My Monkey. If you want an earlier one, you could try Help, if you want something psychedelic, I Am The Walrus, straight Pop: Hello Goodbye, love song (one by George): Something... with their music there are lots of surprises because they were always striving to find something new.

I'd start with their first single, released in the UK in late 1962, and end with The End, the penultimate track from their last album, Abbey Road.
If you don't want to listen to every track on every album, maybe take each album, in order of their UK releases (not the Capitol cobbled together US albums) and ask us for our recommendations of our top 2 or 3 must listen tracks from that album and take the top voted 2 or 3 to react to. As they move on the themes and music become more complex and diverse, and the albums become more like concept albums that need to be heard as a whole, or groups of songs eg the Abbey Road Side 2 Medley, or whole sides, so you may find then you're wanting to listen to more. But for the first 2 or 3 albums, 2 or 3 tracks from each would do, I think, plus, check the UK release dates and add the singles and B-sides from the same period to include in your audience poll..

This song was never on the "Let It Be" album but was the B side of the "Get Back" single. Now in 2003 on the release of the "Let It Be Naked" Lp which McCartney wanted released without all of the Phil Spector strings. The only benefit of that release for me was "The Long And Winding Road" which is great. Another version of "Don't Let Me Down" does appear on the "Naked" Lp but it sure ain't this rooftop performance.
They performed this song twice on the rooftop and both are 100% live as hell. Maybe you're confusing this with the "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" videos that they performed on the David Frost Show in 1968.

I 100% agree with @Doug Susie, this is "100% live as hell"! The studio clip has John yelling "Hey!" in the final chorus, which doesn't appear here. Just by watching this, and seeing the filming of how they did it through Peter Jackson's documentary in the Disney Series "Get Back", you know it is live. I am assuming you never watched it because it would be baffling for you to come to the conclusion that this is a studio version if you did.

If you watched "Get Back" you would see that their producer George Martin and Glyn John's who coproduced the album were in the basement recording and watching through a live feed.
