Your channel is the only one I subscribe to and have been watching your videos for about 2 years. In recent days I’ve been wanting to upcycle a chair into a planter and thought that it would be great for you to do a video. Well I have just searched RUclips and one of the first videos that appear is this one of yours from 4 years ago! It is interesting to see how your confidence has grown in that time with your videos. Now it’s like being greeted by a long-time friend each time I watch them. Thank you so much for all of your knowledge that you share on gardening and other projects. You and Aaron make a great team. Sending love all the way from Western Australia 😊
Ha i'am fm NSW Oz & watch her 2. My neighbour & I did a chair about 8yrs ago b4 it was the craze !!! I didn't paint my chair & just kept it sitting in the garden with a small table, cup, saucer & t/ pot .. it looked really cool.
This is so creative, and smart! I went ahead and tried to look for more videos about chair planters, and so far non of them were as creative, natural, and beautiful as yours. Keep making videos like this please!!
Very pretty. I found an old chair with the bottom torn out of it near the dump. I brought it home cause I thought it was pretty. Now you've inspired me to plant it up with succulents!!! 😊
you do such amazing work!! my husband and I worked WAY TOO HARD on ours and we tried to sell it at a local marketplace near us, to no avail. this looks much more doable!! great color of chair too Laura!! thank you for all your marvelous ideas!!
hi jiwon hong I love your creativity and stuff I love plants this is actually my first time ever responding to someone one line that inspire me about something am more into succulents plants.how ever I wish I could send u a pict of one of the chair plants i did from your idea it came out beautiful
Could you tell us how you watered your succulent chair? And how often? Do you use a spray bottles to spritz the moss and plants? any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I watered it about every 10 days. The moss I used was preserved (not alive), so I didn't have to mist it. I put it in a spot with lots of bright lot and it loves it! :)
Very cool! Not sure why you wouldn't just drill some holes in the bottom for drainage? I think if I were to make this, the only edit I would have would to maybe use some sort of steel bottom with holes.
Laura, this is amazing! I've seen tons of these on Pinterest but never knew how it was done. I do love succulents but they always die on me....not sure why but they do...any tips? I would love to try this project but I'm terrified it will all be for nothing :/ thanks
I used to kill succulents, too! I used to "kill them with kindness", i.e. I grossly overwatered them. Now, I make sure to plant them in the right soil (cactus/succulent mix), water them sparingly, and I make sure they get LOTS of light. If you want some good succulent care guides visit altmanplants.com. They have some super helpful info! Good luck! ~Laura
Garden Answer Ahhhh...sweet!!! Thank you so much!!! I will make sure to do the things you listed and visit that website. I feel hopeful now!!! LOL.....I will make one of these soon and I'll share pics with you ok:) Thanks again!! xo
I noticed your yellow flowers in the front. I have those and don't know how to care for them. I can't seem to find the right search term for it I guess. Do I leave them, cut them off, replant them?
Hi Laura :) Thanks for this wonderful creative idea! I wanted to ask you a question about problems with critters eating my plants..! I live in an old Victorian house at the top attic floor and I have a tiny little fire escape exit that I usually like to put a few containers out on the tiny deck. It has lots of sun and it's the only window in the whole suite so I love to see plants there but something is eating all the flowers and succulents..! I asked the local garden center and they suggested cayenne pepper or mint. I haven't tried the mint yet but I did use cayenne pepper last year and it didn't do anything. I still had flowers disappearing a little bit everyday. What are your suggestions? Thanks! :)
Hi I like be in NC and just finished a succulent garden chair. Will it be ok under a tree in my garden? It will get plenty of light but not hot sun. Thanks so much!
I have a question....you in Eastern Oregon...I live in the high desert of central Oregon....elevation (2900')....do you take the succulents that you used in this video indoors in the winter? It is so cold some of the succulents you used don't look like they would make it.
Garden Answer :) aww , I got my moon cactus 2weeks ago , I got a question , does it like to be indoors?? And How will I know when it starts to bloom. ? :))
12109babygurl It likes to be indoors if you put it in a REALLY bright spot! And, you'll start to see flower buds swell on the top of the cactus when it's preparing for blooms. They are easy to spot!
Mickey Swiffen I'm not sure! I just checked my go-to succulent sites and they don't ship internationally, so I googled it for the UK and came up with a couple. I don't know anything about what quality of plants these companies have, but it's worth a shot! Good luck! ~Laura www.surrealsucculents.co.uk/ and www.easycactus.co.uk/shop/Succulent-Plants/
make the piano into a waterfall/planter.....it can be done for under $100, when you have the piano. You already have all the skills and tools that is required...

Would love to see a piano succulent planted! Did you decide to go ahead with that project in the end? Xx
Laura, that is a beautiful chair. Question: what did you do for drainage? Did you drill holes in bottom or...?
So.... CUTE

+Nichol Soucy Thank you!
I don't understand how the drainage works. Wouldn't the lack of draimage make it go moldy after a while?
It's so beautiful I'm not good planting, I have try and keep died, don't know why.
AMAZING

+Sheila Hunt Yep, I have to move most of mine inside in October and back out in May! :)
+Garden Answer I thought so. Thanks for the reply!
is there a reason you just didn't drain holes in the chair for drainage?
Was the plant with the purple top a moon cactus ?? :)
12109babygurl Hello! Yep, it is a purple moon (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii). It's about ready to bloom right now! So exciting! ~Laura
