    Thanks, that was a great video for setting up back button focussing on the X-T3. I found initially though that it wasn't working properly on my camera which was autofocussing continually regardless of any button I did or didn't push. But then I worked out that this was because I had the PRE-AF functionality turned on, and so simply turned it off (AF MF > PRE-AF > OFF) to get the back button focus working properly. Like some others here, I preferred to assign the autofocus to the AF-L button as I wanted to retain the auto exposure lock (AE-L) functionality.

    Thank you for keeping it simple ,other utubers made this sooooooo hard by talking way too fast not considering their audience needs to keep up with the instructions

    Awesome! Again, this has been what I was looking for. Being a pro who recently moved from DSLR it’s been tricky to find these custom set ups on the fuji. I feel back in control. Yay!

      Nice! Happy you found this helpful! You probably looked up how to edit Fuji files, but if you haven't already, make sure to check out my videos on Iridient X-Transformer...or just use Capture One if you don't already. Enjoy your Fuji!

    Im using an x-t20, and if i decided to use back button focus, what do i set release/focus priority to? Also, if you flick the switch to full auto mode, does it go back to shutter release temporarily?

    Thanks. But I decided to use the AFL button because it’s right above where my thumb rest. I don’t have to reach, as well as I can do it one handed if I need to.

    This is pretty cool! Does the button have to be held down? And, is the touch screen necessary to find the subject? Thank you!!!

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  3 года назад

      I usually hold it down if using AF-C. But I believe it works with one press in AF-S. Touch screen is not necessary.

    Hey Chris - there is a "Focus Check" that you can assign to a button that will zoom in w/o touching the manual focus ring. This works in AF-S and AF-M. By default it is set to a press of the rear command dial. But here is my question - if you have Back Button focus set up, it seems to require you to press whatever button you have Focus assigned to (i.e. AE-L or AE-F) and the Rear Command Dial at the same time which is a two handed operation. I am interested in this because I want to be able to Zoom in on my LCD and surf around the image to check for focus w/o touching the Manual Focus ring. Any ideas you have for how to punch in without needing three hands?

    Thanks for the tip. One you change the settings to back button focus, Autofocus will still work during video shooting, right?

    Hi! But in this way you only activate focusing on afc with the back botton. How you can do both of afc and afs with back botton focusing? I would like to have afc while keeping pushed and afs locked releasing

    Thanks for the easy to follow tips. I cannot get the beep to work with the focus switch in continuous on my XT3, XS10 or X100V Neither will the continous work when you hold down the AEL button to track....or lock onto the subject if you move the camera. All OK in single focus - what am I doing wrong?

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  3 года назад

      Hmmm...I don't think the the beep confirmation is available in continuous, only single. Not to sure on the tracking as I don't use it much, but you might have to switch the focus area to "wide/tracking" instead of single point. If anyone out there uses tracking, please chime in and help us out! 🙏🏼

    I just wanted to add that these settings for back button focus also apply to the Fujifilm XT30 and likely the upcoming Fujifilm XT4!!!

    Hi we can't just use auto focus lock button instead of doing all this ? because the subject is not moving further or closer. i don't know i`m new and don't see any errors ... but when i changed to your settings i have AF! with red square on my screen...

    Does back button focusing work if the front dial selector is switched to Manuel? And did you ever adjust the shutter AE to off, or kept it on as default?

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  2 года назад +1

      yes, it should work w Manual focus switched on. I keep AE to default or some other function.

    • @aploex
      @aploex 2 года назад +1

      @@themagicallandscape Thanks. I was just curious what the advantages were on having if afc vs m. Also I've been doing a lot of work with adapter and Manuel lenses. I imagine back button focus doesn't work in this scenario.
      Thanks for the response :)

    Any experience with the Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8? it might be an amazing lens choice for the xt4

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  4 года назад +1

      Hello, I have not yet tried that lens. I was looking into it vs the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm f2 for astrophotography, but I found that I am happy with the XF 10-24mm. Even at f4 it works for me as I have a star tracker for milkyway and for normal sunrise/sunset shots it works very well. Thanks for your comment and please consider subscribing as I will be reviewing more lenses. who knows, maybe I'll pick up the Zeiss if enuf people request a review 🙏
