Toujours aussi subtile dans ses accords et merveilleuse dans le climat créé, cette musique chorale de Poulenc !
Alliance raffinée poésie-musique. Interprétation de haut vol ! Merci !

Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918) and Paul Éluard (1895-1952) were the two poets whose verses Poulenc set most often in his wonderful songs. This choral cycle is the only instance of a work with texts by both writers.

Poulenc is really brilliant. My choir sang "Les Tisserands" in quarantine style. Write this down in the research. You will love it for sure:

13:09 Why Poulenc did that with the altos?!?! :O

i think in practice the second sopran would switch parts with the alto here

Obviously he was very well aware of what singers can or cannot do. For instance, that's why his works rarely feature very low notes for bass who are quite rare in France, contrary to Eastern countries (some of modern composers should keep this in mind...). My guess is that he wanted the voice colour of altos here rather than the soprano's.

Any mezzo soprano should be able to sing an A5 well
