Overseas Chinese: East meets West

For a variety of historical reasons, Chinese people immigrated to different countries, often far from China. Their main reasons were to escape conflict and /or to live a better life. Did they keep their Chinese roots, what culture shocks did they experience, and what identity do they have now, if they survive and establish roots in a new environment?
