Saw these 3 guys play in Santa Cruz CA (a couple of times) in the mid/later 90's... they set a bar for my ears that has been yet to be surpassed. I am a lucky man!
I remember seeing Robben at the Catalyst on Front St..in the 70's and 80's..... he played that little jazz club also..... Remember Randall Kane... he owned the Catalyst... Old Santa Cruz Cat, now i'm in Haliewa...still surfing at 66........ Landau...is getting a lot of air time at my house during this damn Chinese BS virus....
Definately agree with you-Robben is one of the "old school" players, which is to say 90% of the time he is laying back. I can't tell you how many players really play it straight on studio/recording work. Periodically they'll lay into it but not often. I think it's professional ethics, hey but thats just one man's opinion. He definately had the breakfast of champions this fine day.
wow...robben is so underrated! he is digging deep with this one too! never seen him go this deep with the blues! lol thanks for posting! wish I was there at this gig! lol
Check out Mark w Robben (& 3rd bro Patrick on drums!) in “Loving Cup” vid here on Ytube… when they all played together as the Charles Ford Blues Band - uh-mazing! (Charles was their dad, a musician)
This is my favorite Robben. He has real swagger here. Looks like he's actually chewing gum during the performance? It makes me wonder if his confidence might be pharmaceutical. Whatever the case he would benefit from this kind of edge all the time.
Marching Powder.........The entire Bay Area was caught up in a Horrific snow storm all through the 80's........ gum was popular too.................... laugh it off.....we survived
Anyone notice ; this does'nt look like his main 59 Tele ? Looks too new. But again that could be the fact that it's 5:45am , should have been in the sack about 5 hours ago. I'll pay for it in about 3 hours when I gotta get up, but I'm trying real hard to compartmentalize that.
people usually get hammered on RUclips for honest opinions but here goes. Robin is awesome, one of the best tones and chops players ever. but, BUT does this great song need as many chord inversions and voicings as this???? sometime the simplest arrangement is the best.
g fid : 1st law of blues,, keep it simple ,, that’s why it’s so hard,,, this is text book stuff not for the blues,,, Robin is playing the blues with / thru a Jazz mind ,,,
It's stuff like this that converts people to Telecasters.
incredible. The chops, the tone, the energy.
It's like his vocabulary is endless. And just when you think you know where he's going,...surprise!
Was Thrilled to see him play at Catalina Island, many many years ago. His playing touches my ❤. Thank You !!
He was really on fire during this period like wow!! He’s so limitless and surprises you constantly. That tele😍😍
Just an all around complete player.
He was on fire here!
He had such a confidence after working with Miles.
Freaking tone is ridiculous and the phrasing is of the gods!!!
Go Back......imagine this being the Opening tune......... man ..you knew the show was gonna kick your butt
I saw this ensemble around this time. Still the best backup band/rhythm section I've ever heard live.

Robben is so unpretentious with his talent. He is truly a class act professional. He has a LOT to say on that white Telee!
TAINT WHITE.........60'S PALE YELLOW.......... but the rice is still White....
learning this one now ...while in isolation, ha! ...Robben is the King of groove!
Wow, I've never seen Robben relaxed, having fun and experimenting like this before. I guess he had a good day!
Really loving this song...had to learn for a jam today

Great cover Mr Robben Ford ,on that occasion he played with a Telecaster and his good band expressing a sense of felling 🎸🎸🎹🥁
all his playing is perfect!
The man's in a league of his own. All of the current great guitarist Guthrie Govan, Joe Bonamassa etc sight him as an inspiration.
He is my Hero!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
THE Maestro. The finest blues guitarist to ever play. Period.

That's because this is not blues, this is blues-jazz...

Doesn't seem to be any voicings or inversions that don't work well!!!!
I'll take Robben over Stevie Ray Vaughn and Rory Gallagher.
All three are indispensable to a proper appreciation of electric blues. Glad I don't have to choose.
