I have a window unit evaporative cooler. I replaced the pump last year. And I clean up the calcium every year. Works great in Colorado with our low relative humidity! Cools my whole house down on hot days!
That amp meter is only meant to read one hot wire at a time. It will not read current coming back on the neutral. Make sure your setting is on Amps as well. When you go over a hot and neutral it cancels itself out. The only way to read voltage is with the leads and having it set on voltage (AC or DC). Auto ranging means it will automatically pick up the range of amps or volts...most older meters you had to pick the correct setting to read that particular range. I’m a union electrician and I Use the higher version of that meter...to me it’s a great meter. Let me know if you have any questions about it or any electrical questions
Justin great job, no worrie to domunate thw whole subject. I do respeect people like you, trying to do its own at home. Whta I do respect yhe most is that you can work with your son, which something new generations have lost lately. Great job, pretty right some comments about how to clamp a wire, but we all have to learn that someday. Greetings from Costa Rica, Big Hug Alberto
I think that's the same model I got on my roof. also very useful info, I need to put a new coating inside, seeing the cleaner was new to me, no idea it existed till now. Thank you
Sorry in advance Justin, we really had issues with this product. We solved our issues with eh swamp cooler LOL once we bought this living and working place we tore this apart, through down the pieces and added it to the scrap pile that is our thought as LOL we are funnin here but no we shucked that water sucking monster as far as our two older guys hands could throw it. Thank you for the share, Lance & Patrick. All kidding a side our precision watchmaker machinery cannot have water we run a really dry arid clean outward pressure sealed workshop.
There is a very good graphic chart online that shows the temperature results you get based on outside temp and humidity. Amazing how accurate it is. You can know how much it will cool before trying to run it for the day.
I have the same sc and im needling to follow justin wire instruction but having a little hard time following. Another question is how do I know if my unit is 120v or 240v? Thank you
I LOVED IT !!! U MADE ME LAUGH all the way 🤣 u are funny without wanting to be , I learned a lot , love people that are always learning , thank u for sharing , exactly the video I was looking for. U have a new subscriber for future projects.
Hey nice vdi little dif, apprentice lectrician here, my only suggestion to keep that running longer would be to replace that bit of flex sleeving from the trough to the switch. wasnt doing much to protect your wire looking like that :)
The pulley is not how to adjust tension. It adjusts the speed of the blower. The larger you make that motor pulley the faster she spins just like your old bicycle. Do check the alignment and tracking of the pulleys and slide either pulley on the shaft to make them both line up.
I havent finished the video yet but the orange wire is for a 240V set up. The 2 different plugs one is for the pump, the other is for the motor. Motors usually have a plug as well.
I hope you eventually got air conditioning for the more intense heat during the summer. Good job on the electrical, exactly as it is supposed to be wired/arranged.
Why couldn't you have pulled that blower pulley off, it's the only one on RUclips with four spokes like mine. All I've been able to do so far is get the pulley off with the spokes, but the hub is still attached to the shaft. I pulled the set screw out and it won't budge. I'm thinking about cutting through the hub, but it's so close to the bearing, I don't know if I'll be able to get close enough. On top of that, I can't see the end of the shaft, the old hub covers the end of the shaft completely. May have to cut the shaft and replace it too.
awesome video! did the old one just lift off the vent? it wasn't sealed up or glued to it? when putting the new box on the vent is it just screws? and did you seal it up? Mine is rusted to crap so I have this exact job to do
So I switched this year from Aspen pads to DuraCool. I live in an arid part of Colorado. It is currently 73 degrees outside and my swamp cooler is registering an output temp of 71 degrees!!! Yep you read correct. ONLY 2 degrees cooler than the outside, dry air--no rain, moisture or humidity present, BTW) Pump and Blower are working great. Water flow is visible down all sides of each panel. After watching another RUclips video of a man's dissatisfaction with the DuraCool pads, I decided to check something that he mentioned. Sure enough.... the INSIDES of almost all the surfaces of the DuraCool pads are BONE DRY!!! The external surfaces (with the water visibly draining down them) are soaking WET. My Aspen cool SO MUCH BETTER than these. Any idea what could be causing this? I feel so ripped off since the DuraCool were more expensive and were touted to increase cooling efficiency.
Wow I’m from Barstow California ours needs replacement so $500.00 not bad seems worth it so thanks to you and your video I’m gonna make the purchase because I’m tired of repair services tossing parts at our dinosaur loved your video detailed information was very helpful great job 👏🏼 definitely coots light silver bullet time or bud platniums 🍺🍺🍻 lol ps sorry about the Home Depot under achiever
Bought the same cooler last year. This year I went up to clean and start, but the rust rotted thru. Champion was able to replace the pan and maybe the corner legs. Still waiting so I patched up the old one using truck bed liner. Now i/ is going but looks like I need a new switch, low cool is not working.
Motor was installed upside down. Even if they don't need to be oiled so port would need to be on top obviously, the openings should be on the bottom so if any water splashed in, it would drain out rather than short out the motor.
we have a two-speed motor black would be H or high and Red is always secondary to Black that would be L or low then you have the hot for the pump , which does not go to the motor the pump will plug into that single outlet and they both have a white called a neutral and a ground wire. which is green or bare
This is very helpful, is there anyway to do a video on how to change the wire on the motor? I need to get a new motor, but will need to re-wire from what I understand.
Great video, It appears you just drop the AC on top of the duct work. I plan on installing a unit on my house here soon, I will leave the electrical stuff to the pros but looks like I can DIY the rest.
I thought the same thing before I got into it and I had a customer who was an electrician tell me to just mark the wires and pay attention to the order in which I take them out and I should be fine. He was right. Now for any other household electrical I agree. I too plan on leaving it to the pro's, but the cut off switch being right there... No worries no electricity running through it. Hope the video helped. Thanks for the comment and watching.
Nice. I tried one of those in my hangar in Arkansas. It did lower the temp from 110° to 98°. Relative humidity went from 80 to 99%. All exposed steel rusted immediately! Louisiana need not attempt these.
1. Looked like you put new cooler on backwards? Legs need to be straight. 2. Never put wd 40 on your motor - it has black grease inside already and wd40 attracts dirt. 3. Just punch old holes on frame for wiring- no drill needed. Good video. I like how you showed your mistakes so others can learn.
Swamp coolers work in the desert because they put humidity in the air where is I live in Tennessee we use central air but there humidity in the air here and Central air works better here
Well, you can either make a frame that Tappers down to that size or sell the one you got and buy the correct size. I would try and get the correct size for your air duct. That's just my opinion. Cheers!
Why did Rambo go back to the Jungle? It's where he belonged. I was born in a desert, I deployed twice to the desert, I love the Heat, I love the fact that it's too hot for most animals and that not many people want to live in one. I'll never leave the desert. It is and always will be my home. Cheers brotherman!
the amprobe didn't work because you had it clamped over all the wires you just clamp it over the hot wire we put those on before we start any motor in restaurants they have swamp coolers they call them makeup air because the range hood suck a lot of air. , also you need to get those perfectly levels so the water won't run only on one side of the pad.
Totally disagree. I bet those who accuse pad crap advice and developed their misconceptions without understanding the material science. CATCH-ALL!!! evaporates after waterlogged [not before]. when calcium binds to wood fibers creating crinkle like sounds when pressed or moved, cooling fails (not because pad is hard}. time to replace. c) there are greenish brown pads, they are paper impreganted with something some sort of waxy chemical or thin plastic??. This green pad has what looks like the widest "air opening cavities" but is not because of the waxy coating creating invisible barrier. It was supposedly imitate aspen pads. REGARDLESS SECTION homeowner with swamp coolers should haven been told and know!!! 1) when temperature soars to greater than 97 degrees Farenheight. Great change of topic brother! Thank you for all you do for us.
Nice change of topic here. I have never touched a swamp cooler so this was very interesting to me. Thanks.
Never mind, lol u did change the wires. Man I really appreciate this video, so helpful and real.. keep up the videos.. New Subscriber!!!!
Thanks, very informative. I'm thinking about putting one in my garage.
Very helpful. Thanks man! Bakersfield here

I will use this video, as i expect to replace mine all by myself very soon. Ty
those were knock-outs. you didn't need to drill them. just use a hammer and screwdriver to remove them
Good to know for next time. Thanks for sharing.
You can also just stab it with your needle nose. Thats what most electricians would use
Nah. I tried to knockem out but needed the drill in the end. They're really stuck in there.
Use a hole saw, quicker, neater. Bang on it with a screwdriver and a hammer and it will bend up the metal and it will look all mucked up.
He could have used the whole punch that he bought for the grill

5 years later and now that paint is $11 each in Albuquerque
Wow looks brand new nice job
24:47 that is an electrical knockout. No hole say needed. Hopefully, that was covered later in the video.
The amprobe can only read one wire at a time. You can't clamp it around a cord or anything.

The fan in ceiling
To draw into attic
Then in attic draw fans to outside
That drain plug is also your overflow protector, so water doesnt overflow into the ducting
Sorry I couldn't sit through that but it looks like you're doing good life congratulations.
👍
Good job, very helpful 👍
Did you figure it out? I haven't I need help with wiring?
The clamp meter should surround single wire at each measure
I mean once for the live wire for the motor then. same same for the water pump.
Good job.
Good job bro!

how do y remove broken bolts on motor adjustment 2 on each side

That adjustable pulley is for speed adjustment.
So is it a good idea to keep this in the middle ?
I carry a 1/4" flex rachet all of the time !!!

You could a water hose to fill it up faster. Good job thanks
You didn't film getting it up on the roof?

What is the going rate for installing that swamp cooler? How man hrs from start to finish?
Holy shit they cemtrailed the shit outa that sky

personally i would use aspen pads over that blue stuff. they will cool better because I think air passes through them better

Swamp coolers work in the desert because they put humidity in the air where is I live in Tennessee we use central air but there humidity in the air here and Central air works better here
Does the unit just sit on top the vent?
yes
No. You need supporting legs to support the cooler. The duct will not hold the weight of the cooler plus pump plus water.
Where you are, neve see store like that
What cud I do if my ac unit duct is 25 but duct on roof is 19?
Well, you can either make a frame that Tappers down to that size or sell the one you got and buy the correct size. I would try and get the correct size for your air duct. That's just my opinion. Cheers!
What brand of amp clamp meter was that
Klein.
What about replacing the fan?
I need help with wiring?
from Alabama what is a swamp cooler???
Up here on the rough?
It looks like your going to use your old motor if you had got a new motor it’s says close pully then twist open either 2nd half turns or so
Swamp cooler gave a friend of mine mold on sheet rock
serious question justin, why would you want to live in the desert and be taxed like crazy living in CA? why not move somewhere else??

Don’t get that blue crap, use the fiber pads. My new swamp cooler was complete, motor, pump etc
