Great video. Thank you! Curious to know how AI will play a role in the future. What can we do to be ready for search engines that will inevitably start leaning on their AI technology to "scrape" sites for content and offer that up as "search results"?
@@stevetragg yes you can, although, I prefer requesting indexing. When a new page is added, Squarespace updates your sitemap after around 48 hours - then GSC will pick up that change automatically
Potentially! Although, Google wont go through your site immediately anyway, it usually takes 48 hours I have found - I just like to get it out the way for peace of mind. + by putting that key step closer to the start of the video, more people are likely to see it and get value.
Hi Question for you, Henry. In your blog example, I saw that you put it in the "unlinked" section. Is there a reason for that? Can you clarify? Thanks so much for this amazing video!
No worries at all! Happy to help! That was just because I have a special plugin that creates the drop down menu in my header - for that to work it needs to be unlinked. Take a look at my site and you should see what I mean!
Hello. Great video and product. Quick question. I submitted the site map to google console but the status says "couldn't fetch". Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks for reaching out! It will be for 1 of 2 reason. 1. Your sitemap hasn't been generated yet - it takes around 48 hours for Squarespace to make it, if you recently published your site 2. You might have a domain property on your GSC - when you add your sitemap, can you see your URL before the box? If not, you need to type in the whole URL and then the sitemap.xml
thanks for the video man, just a little question, it gets a bit confusing by 11:44 : I just changed all my "URL slugs names" so how am i supposed to enter their "old name" in the URL Mapping since i just renamed them all ? 😅 also I updated all the clickable links on my squarespace website with the new "URL names", do i still have to do the mapping ? hopefully you understand my question haha thanks
No problem! If you visit Google search console, and then pages, because you only recently changed them, you will be able to find the old URL - or, if you linked to that page anywhere else in your site, you can find it from there.
on the GSC my sitemap came back with error and said "missing xml tag" "site map can be read, but has errors Missing XML tag 1 instance This required tag is missing. Please add it and resubmit. Examples Line 2 Parent tag: urlset Tag: URL" what does this mean, please help :(
If you've just published your site, it can take 24-48 hours - otherwise, it might be because you did domain verification when connecting to GSC - in that case, if you don't see your URL before the sitemap box, you will need to type in www.yourURL.com/sitemap.xml
Fantastic and well-presented, thank you. I am going to explore your product next! Cheers, K
Thanks K! Glad you liked it!
This is the best SEO video I have watched, straight to the point, simple explanations and helpful!
Thank you!
Thank you for all you do for we SquareSpace entrepreneurs. This is an exceptional video and very helpful.
Thank you and no problem at all!

Thank you, this has helped a lot. I liked, subscribed, and now I'm going to try to plugin
Glad to hear and happy to help!
Great content Henry, thanks for the insights :)
Glad you liked it!
Massive value! Do you need to do 301 URL slug redirects if you haven't sent the site map yet?
You don't need to do it if the original URL isn't indexed/getting impressions, no - you're right!
@@h.purchase thanks 🙏. Can you resend site map instead of the redirects. And what happens if you add a new page after site map has been submitted?
@@stevetragg yes you can, although, I prefer requesting indexing. When a new page is added, Squarespace updates your sitemap after around 48 hours - then GSC will pick up that change automatically
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Rob!
Thank you so much man!! But wouldnt it be more effective to connect your search console after having done the technical SEO part ?

Great information re SEO but what about Bing and Duckduck go?
does re-submitting your sitemap into google search console after changing a bunch of slugs do the same thing as a 301 redirect?
No, unfortunately, as Google will think those pages still exist, causing 404 errors
I followed all the directions in the video which was great but I'm still not finding myself on google. Any help?
I have an article to help here: www.seospace.co/blog/squarespace-website-not-showing-up-on-google

How long ago did you publish your site? If it was recently, Squarespace might not have published the sitemap yet.
If you have more than one image on a page, what do you name the other images?
You can name them what the image is about - just describe them!

With the image file name if its IMG_1234.jpg but i've changed the Alternate File Name, do i ned to reupload the image file with the correct File Name?
I typically do yes!
Ummm you can rename the file/image in your asset library lol
@@DanaDreamsBig yes, but you can't compress it from there!
@@h.purchase yes, but did he ask that?
Does my sitemap take a while to "fetch", after submitting it says it "couldn't fetch"
