You can thank these influencers for that. A created market and a bunch of sheep. If folks only knew what the rock scene was at the time. Most of the recordings done at the time was with a tele. Most not all. We have given birth to a monster. Personally I have no desire for the glam of signature guitars and yes I could afford one, but they make no sense to me. Okay, my theory is the distance between the bridge and the tailpiece on this is what the jangliness comes from. I have a squire Jaguar, and it's similar, even though the jaguar has single coils.

Hate to be the one to tell you but the solo for Stairway To Heaven was played on a Fender Telecaster. The dragon Telecaster that you featured on your show. The double neck was only used for the live show.
$50,000 for a guitar is ridiculous. Only reason they would have ever said a 100,000 is to make you think you were getting a deal at 50k. I get it it's a limited edition and it's signed but you know the guitar didn't cost them $3,000 to make
Ace Frehley would also play one live for "Rock Bottom" and recorded "Fractured Mirror" with it. EVH recorded "Secrets" using one and played it onstage a few times before Kramer made him a custom doubleneck

What happened to the old Greeny price? Will the new Jimmy Page signatures raise the prices of the older early 2000s ones? I thought they’d make the older ones seem less desirable and lower the value of the old ones.
That wiring and switching is bizarre. I have an Epiphone version of this (much cheaper!), and it has 3 toggle switches. The switch on the bottom horn selects the Neck, Bridge, or both pickups on the 6-string side. The middle selector between the bridge selects the 12- or 6- string necks or both (middle). Then there is a third 3 position switch between the 2 neck pickups that selects the 12-string neck pickups. It sounds amazing and looks very similar to this one, otherwise, even down to the uncovered pickups on the 6-string side. Did you notice the neck dive?
Actually, it's a great workout for getting used to this guitar. When I first bought mine 20 years ago, I I used it to get familiar with the control setup and jumping between necks. Going from rhythm guitar parts on a 12 then switching to the 6 for a lead.
A wise purchase Austin, congrats. I'm curious about the hollow bodied double necks, also, I'm kind of surprised Gibson didn't use a pair of trapeze tailpieces on the ES-1275!
You do more for Gibson bringing younger players into their market than anyone. The idea that they’re banning you is ridiculous! Love watching your channel! Thank you for sharing.

You forgot to mention he saw Family's guitarist John Whitney use an 1275 and got inspiration to use one as this was Whitney's main gigging guitar. Also that he opted for a longer position of the tailpiece behind the bridge because he thought it would give the guitar more resonance, plus a longer string tension results in a less slinky guitar than one with a shorter bridge length as opposed to what you said. Hence why Fender's 25 1/2" feels more rigid than a Gibson's 24 3/4".
Correct me if I’m wrong please, but I believe you’ve got it backwards Trogly- having longer strings should theoretically make it feel like there’s MORE tension, not “slinkier”. This is for sure the case with scale length, but I’m not certain about having more string length from bridge to tailpiece. But I would imagine that even though there’s a bridge between the nut and tailpiece, the “longer strings = more tension” thing should still stand.
In fact, Jimmy also used a Vox Phantom XII electric twelve string in addition to the Fender Electric XII on the fourth album recording of “Stairway To Heaven”.
Big enough that Gibson will sell everyone they plan on making as soon as they list them for sale, and then you’ll have a few more people with enough money who missed out on the official sale that will be more than willing to pay the over inflated prices of the flippers who bought them for profit anyway.
18 year old me would’ve been psyched that all these different signature guitars are being made, adult me just face palms at gibsons recent blatant cash grabs, and I critique lovingly as I’ve allows them to grab my cash more than a few times.
No mention of Claudio Sanchez? He’s been playing one of these live every concert for the last 20 years when performing Welcome Home. Look up any video of coheed and cambria playing welcome home.
He only used the double neck live. The Stairway recording used a mixture of acoustic and electric guitars. It’s rumoured that the lead break was actually played on a Telecaster. The 6 string side sure has some rawk.
THE HOOK thru the entire Stairway solo is Page having his Fender E-12 plugged directly into the main recording console and strumming an Fmajor7 constantly in the background. That's the hook. It's subtle...it's addictive...it's stunning.
My epi has the longer tail piece placement, I never thought about it needing longer strings because I didn’t realize it was different .. so what strings ARE long enough to fit them because it is finally about time I change my strings
Amazing video and sounds! I used to have the Epiphone version, made in Korea in 1996. It did have also the extended string length, but it had three toggle switches. Two pickup selectors, by each neck pickup, and the selector in between, closer to the bridges, working as neck selector. This one was also taller, like the one in this video, and that allowed you to change necks using your forearm. I actually think that Epiphone's layout worked better! You could have different pickups selected on each neck and quickly change from 12 to 6, or viceversa, with your forearm while strumming.
Check out that Squier Jazzmaster 12, it’s really good, (I’ve played a few over the years, a Danelectro, the Reverend Airwave, and a Charvel Surfcaster 12 I really regret selling.)
Damn, that thing is only 11 pounds, my 60's Les Paul is 11 pounds XD with a single neck, the only reason I got it like that is because of the monster top it has lulz
just visited the Gibson Garage in London - Jimmy Page 1969 EDS-1275 Doubleneck Collector’s Edition, Signed, Exclusive - Cherry £47,399.00 - $60,319.97. Pricey!
Hey Austin, you seemd to forgot to mention that the new ones are not only signed but actually played by Jimmy before packaged/sent out. It is a pretty big deal for collectors compared to any previous signature series if you ask me.
The best reason to play a doubleneck is if you have a song that needs either neck for different sections, and you have maybe one beat’s worth of time to change. I played (and sang) Hotel California in a country band years ago, and since I didn’t have a doubleneck, I had to play the solos (both parts!) on 12-string. I tried, once, playing the entire song on 6-string, but the verses didn’t sound right, even using chorus to simulate a 12-string. Got to have the real thing!
There was a musician local to me called Frank White, he played in and around Sheffield in the UK. He owned a white double neck SG, which I believe was one of the first made. After his death in 2022 Jimmy Page made numerous attempts to purchase the guitar but failed. Its value then was 500K.
Awesome I got Epiphones version of it but just the body blank stripped of all parts and then built it up from scratch myself all custom parts and locking tuners and all 4 pickups were Seymor Duncan JB1's it was awesome wiring it was a pain in the azz but it played great, unfortunately, I had to sell it and a 2012 les paul AAA after someone hit & ran on my car..right after COVID but I'll probably do it again and yes I got it to do the 73 live version of the stairway and the SRS & Rain Song Live as part of my live set... It was great while it lasted

Man!! You got Jimmy Page’s DNA there!!! 😍😍
Did I notice correctly a dotted 'i' on the 12 string headstock, but no dot on the i for the 6?
I saw it also but it was not mentioned. The little nick of the top of the headstock was obsessed over instead.
Yep you Shaw did
$50k for the new one?!?! Gibson are having a laugh.
That was a fast NGD.. didn’t you post it like 4 days ago? 😂
Are you going to cut it in 2 again?
so is one allowed to play Stairway in the guitar store on one of these?
Actually, it's a great workout for getting used to this guitar. When I first bought mine 20 years ago, I I used it to get familiar with the control setup and jumping between necks. Going from rhythm guitar parts on a 12 then switching to the 6 for a lead.
I really think this is one of the best sounding demos trogly has ever made. Gosh…that guitar sounds beautiful ❤️🔥
*John McLaughlin* also used the EDS-1275 (with same paintjob as Page's) from around 1971-73
Banning?
I’m sorry, I have not heard anything about someone or something being banned?
To who and from who??
@@ScottsGuitar banned from buying the $50,000 guitar
@@mikepfeifer3687
Gibson wouldn’t let Trogly (Austin) buy the $50,000 Custom Shop Greeny Les Paul that included the Kirk Hammett meet and greet, because he is a guitar “reseller”.
Why is he banned from buying it?
To quote Nigel Tufnel, “don’t touch it. It shall never be played.”😂😂😂😂😂
Six string headstock says Gibson without the I being dotted
They were the chibsons before chibsons were a thing.
ought to be good for $10,000 off
@@markv.5962 it will be deemed a rarity and up the price considerably. The story will soon come out that Page's i wasn't dotted and had a nick in the headstock and will increase the price even more in the future as well as multiple videos discussing the validity.
My guess $25k! Oh, I didn’t know about Murphy lab, yeah $50k! Sorry it’s just getting out of hand if you ask me!
So extralong strings are needed, now Iam curious which strings fit? Is rhere a special set?
Or does gibson seell some for 50?
i could have my house full of guitars and i still won't be encumbered by it 😂 the double neck is so sick!!!! would love to hold one someday
Could be he wanted the tailpieces so low so he didn’t bust his knuckles going for the switch?
In fact, Jimmy also used a Vox Phantom XII electric twelve string in addition to the Fender Electric XII on the fourth album recording of “Stairway To Heaven”.
I wonder how large is the market for 40k double neck reissues…
Big enough that Gibson will sell everyone they plan on making as soon as they list them for sale, and then you’ll have a few more people with enough money who missed out on the official sale that will be more than willing to pay the over inflated prices of the flippers who bought them for profit anyway.
I really hope they do a page les paul again always wanted one
They are doing his #1 and #2 Les Pauls
@@JokersWild70I hope there’s an Epiphone release of his #1. Or his black ‘57 Custom!
@@JokersWild70 Oh heck yea ! i hope they do standards ! i cant wait
@@solarisramirez8039 That's what I had read just a few weeks ago
With my recent pelvic breakage....this awesome guitar would literally kill me. 12 lbs? WOW!!
18 year old me would’ve been psyched that all these different signature guitars are being made, adult me just face palms at gibsons recent blatant cash grabs, and I critique lovingly as I’ve allows them to grab my cash more than a few times.
Why not, it's a business after all, and all businesses are in it for the bottom line.
that is a great double guitars. amazing
I’m happy with my 2001 cherry red eds 1275 , it sounds amazing 🎸
No mention of Claudio Sanchez? He’s been playing one of these live every concert for the last 20 years when performing Welcome Home. Look up any video of coheed and cambria playing welcome home.
Teaser alert! Page Signature Les Paul coming up? Yes!
I mean it’s pretty pronounced where it’s supposed to be. But I never realized he’s not playing the A or G
Trogly hits 290.000 yeah!
Thanks for coming along the journey!
Saw it in half.... SAW IT IN HALF!!!!
Hairway To Steven 🤠 only 50 G I’ll take 2
Is it heavy? Some thing you could carry for 5 hours? Sounds great. Makes the show.
Fifty grand is a pretty nice car
Tempted to buy this one from Trogly then remembered I need to buy a car this year. Nice guitar!
Two things:
1) I played a 12-string once, when I was 15. I had no business even trying.
2) One of us has been playing “Stairway” wrong.
Check out that Squier Jazzmaster 12, it’s really good, (I’ve played a few over the years, a Danelectro, the Reverend Airwave, and a Charvel Surfcaster 12 I really regret selling.)
Never attend a party.
Only 50 grand ? Wtf i cant afford the strings😂
Damn, that thing is only 11 pounds, my 60's Les Paul is 11 pounds XD with a single neck, the only reason I got it like that is because of the monster top it has lulz
well these are great wall hanger guitars and made history with great songs but 20 pounds guitars are not practical just show pieces
just visited the Gibson Garage in London - Jimmy Page 1969 EDS-1275 Doubleneck Collector’s Edition, Signed, Exclusive - Cherry £47,399.00 - $60,319.97. Pricey!

Dude. Your guitar playing is really improving keep up what you are doing!!
TAPE WILL EMBOSS INTO THE FINISH....
Hey Austin, you seemd to forgot to mention that the new ones are not only signed but actually played by Jimmy before packaged/sent out. It is a pretty big deal for collectors compared to any previous signature series if you ask me.
The original aged/signed were also given that same treatment. At recording, the new 2024 was not launched
I was wondering if you were going to play the "forbidden" song. To be fair, you pretty much had to.
