Squirrel monkey, Since you just commented on this video, can I give a suggestion for Wonders of the World wide web? If I can ask, Can you do If Apex Legends was made in the ‘90s?
I don't care if this is an April fools joke. You could be murdering me and I wouldn't care because your voice is so calm. But this is legit information.
At first I thought this was an actual video that you just made for fun, then you mentioned wonders of the world wide web as an actual show from the eighties.
"Ananas Pizzas" Somehow, you've avoided the internet debate about pineapple(ananas) so far, but no longer! If you like pineapple on pizza, that's fine. If you don't, that's also fine.
Minish It looks like LGR, and sounds almost like LGR. Even the music sounds like LGR and the keyboard typing in the beginning sounds like lazy typing from LGR, all slow and whatnot. But beware, beware your ears and eyes, your thoughts and the knowledge that you think you have, for this is NOT LGR! This is not LGR... This is not...
How the hell is this at all similar to LGR? LGR largely revolves around reviewing and showing off old technology, Science Elf is a channel more based on retrospectives and while yes they cover obscure technology too the presentation is very different.
Your videos are so well made and informative that it took me way too long to realize it's an April Fools video. It's cool that you were able to collaborate with Squirrel Monkey, though!
You forgot about the Hyper-Text Pizza Ordering Protocol (HTPOP), which would've allowed computers to order pizza easily and quickly without the limitations of HTTP. However, it never exactly materialized, since it was ultimately decided that HTTP would be better suited for this, and would be more compatible. SOMEONE MAKE HTPOP A REAL THING APRIL FOOLS OR NOT
I live in such a small town, one time I go ordered pizza online and the delivery driver still used a credit card impressioner. This was in like 2013~2014.
I remember the early online pizza hut thing being connecting to a website, entering your address and telephone number, and when you confirm it gives you the address of the local pizza hut and sends out a notification to that pizza hut for them to call you.
There was a movie made in 1994 or 1995, and it stars Sandra Bullock. It is not Demolition Man, though that movie introduced me to Sandra Bullock for the first time. I forgot the name of the movie, but I remember at the start of the movie, the main character (Sandra Bullock) ordered pizza via computer, and the site shows look like an early version of online pizza delivery website. Don't if that was Pizza Hut back then.
I think you will want to fact check a lot of this stuff. There are a few things early on that I let slide but they are coming more and more frequently. Like hearing the words on the modem - this isn't how modems work and clearly, they are using a speech synthesizer. Maybe they figured out how to tune the modem sounds to synthesize speech? That being said, it's a fun concept to display the history of computer science by examining the history of a peripheral purpose such as online pizza ordering.
Awww, this was an April Fools joke? I am confused. Pizza ordering from a computer really _does_ have a fairly long history at this point, with one pizzaria being available to receive orders via telnet. It was an early example of Internet-facing automation.
I first ordered pizza online in 1995. I went to the website got super hungry, and filled it out and forgot. 30mins later a knock and my dad cussing about having to pay
As a pizza driver myself I despise how my company has online ordering set up. They don't tell the customer if we are backed up or run out of anything and I have been cursed out over it. Also, the call center is in Dallas Texas which makes this even worse via the same means.
On a real side note The value of the first bitcoin transactions were negotiated by individuals on the bitcoin forum with one notable transaction of 10,000 BTC used to indirectly purchase two pizzas delivered by Papa John's.
I actually think this would be excellent and fun material to teach kids some historical computer facts. You would simply say: "Here's a little video for you to watch. I'm sure you'll have fun with that". And when the video is over, you would go: "Well, some of you might have figured out all of this was not created to just order pizzas. But, other than that, you get the picture, right?"... I'm sure they would laugh and would be eager to watch it again. Kids love to be treated as people capable of using their wits like adults.
Alright, here's a subtle thing not many people are acknowledging but as someone who knows too much about overly-specific tech history: The bit at the start with the computer "ordering its own pizza", is in reality a *speech synthesis* system test. It was meant to help people with vocal problems communicate verbally. They hooked the computer up to a phone and dialed the local pizza joint. There was no actual data transfer like the gag implies. (This actually confused me as I was in fact one of the many people who didn't catch on to this being a joke until halfway through.) And yes, it actually succeeded! ruclips.net/video/94d_h_t2QAA/видео.html
Good video, but I'm pretty sure the Dominos client was on MacOS and Pizza Hut was on MS-DOS / Windows, not the other way around. A Macintosh II variant with 2 MB or more of RAM was recommended, as the better CPU could process all the topping choices available at the time and store them in memory for selection. On the monochrome compact Macs you were limited to at most two topping choices, unless you had an SE/30 or an SE with the 68030 upgrade card installed.
Also, for those who don't know, ananas is the universal international-ish word for pineapple, very cloverly done, guys ! And yes, Pinapple on pizza rules ! Edit, I'm leaving it in.
It took me until Wonders of The World Wide Web came on that it was a joke. I thought the "you can hear the words it's transmitting by ear" part was a bit weird, then I saw Wonders of the World Wide Web and I quickly went to check the date it was uploaded on. :P
Thank you, Science Elf! This video tastes as good as my first online pizza.
And my LGR episodes!
@@deadbox2003 Yea
Squirrel monkey, Since you just commented on this video, can I give a suggestion for Wonders of the World wide web? If I can ask, Can you do If Apex Legends was made in the ‘90s?

I ordered a pizza online recently, and they called me, because that was the first time anyone had ordered online, and they weren't sure how it worked.
"Ananas Pizzas" Somehow, you've avoided the internet debate about pineapple(ananas) so far, but no longer!
If you like pineapple on pizza, that's fine. If you don't, that's also fine.
Greetings and Welcome to a Totally not LGR Thing

My cousin used to have a pizza delivery button on an old Hannah Montana landline phone she had.
"Internet Sellers of Pizza" had me rolling in laughter. You sir are a genious
Wait is the ananas pizza legit or not?
Edit: nvm its from a guy which does stuff like that :(

Will you ever do a serious video on this topic?
Uhh
I just received an online-ordered pizza and found this in my recommended as I looked for something to watch as I ate ...........
After so many times of covering the same material, it's only fitting that you and LGR now have the same intro. (Kidding!)
Love the LGR kickback and great video as always!
I love this channel. I’m old enough to remember most of the topics you cover, at least as a savvy user. 😉. Nostalgic.
As usual, this is awesome! Keep up the great work
This and Solar Sand’s 2021 April Fools videos were the best ones I’ve seen.
I live in such a small town, one time I go ordered pizza online and the delivery driver still used a credit card impressioner. This was in like 2013~2014.

Legit took me until bout 5 minutes into the video to realise what day it is
5:40 It was at this moment that I realised that this was a joke video
I just realized it when Wonders of the WWW started playing ;)
Always love the wonders of the world wide web theme!
"isolated pizza c o m m u n i t i e s"

damn, that intro, can hear the frequencies and everything lmao

This whole video is just a mood.
7 minutes in and i realize this is a April fools video, this had me thinking that pizza made the internet a thing, god damn I'm gullible
Watching on April 2nd and it took me 7 minutes to figure it out, god damnit
Comedy gold, now whens the next documentary thing?
"Ill select the only bread I know, ciabatta!" *THUNK!* "Do I want more appetizers? No." *THUNK!*
Glorious. Art of the highest degree.
Halfway into the video I knew this could’ve been published on April first
A video like this really fixes my week :D

The history of the Internet (for pizza lovers)
The first April fool's prank I actually fell for this year. Good job

When i was a kid, i had to go aaall the way to the library just to order a pizza using their terminal thing that ran lynx browser.
LOL
this is the type of content i want.
I first ordered pizza online in 1995. I went to the website got super hungry, and filled it out and forgot. 30mins later a knock and my dad cussing about having to pay
The next video NEEDS to be the history of video editing
7:30 You're browsing a mid 90s webpage on a 2005 Windows Mobile based device. 😂😂😂
I thought this was real until the Wonders of the World Wide Web clip started. 😂😂😂
my niche content that i eagerly wait to watch
"Independent Sellers of Pizza, or ISPs." I died. XD
"Windows Pizza Communicator" Again lol

In total, in 16 years, we ate about 1.1606 pizzas. Also, the approx. gap between each pizza eaten was 5.16 years.
4:08 Did someone just slam the keyboard?
4:35 Didn't know it was possible back then, to pay credit card online. How does it work compare to today?
Now a day using Foodpanda and Grab in Philippines.
I went down to the comments to ask why she's hitting the keyboard so damn hard only to find out this video is a prank
@4:10 how big were the keys on the keyboard that she was punching? 😂
really nice April Fools joke. You got me for several minutes.
Now I *really* want a pizza...
Oh. So this was an april fools joke? I was suspicious a little, but man, you sound convincing af :D
On a real side note

keep up the good work and you fooled me on some parts of this video nice april fools joke
You had me fooled until 3:19.. I recognise the voice
PS, I honestly did not understand this was an elaborate April Fools joke until the six minute mark. Well played.
today we can order billions of pizzas per second. we should appreciate this more.

This is a high quality April Fools Joke. gg Elf, you win 1 internet.
lol u got my blessings for making a video about "the history of online pizza ordering"

*Proceeds to whole fist bang the keyboard
What is this Tas 1000 - I've Been Delayed this QR code at 6:00 sent me to

I spy an order for some None Pizza with Left Beef
You forgot the time you could (and possibly still can?) Order pizza hut through the world of Warcraft chat
The LGR influences are palpable. Good work little Elf!
Also, for those who don't know, ananas is the universal international-ish word for pineapple, very cloverly done, guys ! And yes, Pinapple on pizza rules !
Edit, I'm leaving it in.
Everyone wants to: *Know your location*
Jesus Christ, those key presses during Anana's pizza ordering. She was literally punching those keys
5:23 I'm f*cking dead 🤣
Am disappoint... no mention of the /pizza commands found in some old MUDs and MMORPGs
I know right? I remember the big deal when Everquest had that
It took me until Wonders of The World Wide Web came on that it was a joke. I thought the "you can hear the words it's transmitting by ear" part was a bit weird, then I saw Wonders of the World Wide Web and I quickly went to check the date it was uploaded on. :P
loved the pizzahut apple only and windows domino joke
Ananas Pizza interface was well done, pretty friendly!
love that reference to left beef and LGR
The Apple II intro is cool but it really doesn't work with the orange.
Also, the keyboard isn't as satisfying as LGR's Model M.
I figured out at the pocket pcs. Pizza communicators
Love the LGR-style intro.
3:25 I expect to hear "...but what is Ananas Pizza?" 😂😂😂
