Top speed of the brand new KTM RC 390 on a production unit from the international launch event.
Ignition cuts at 179 - 178 km/h.
Very well balance bike and so funny to ride.
Obviously this is a gear limited top speed. It's safe to assume KTM opted for shorter gearing, making better use of the power output for quicker acceleration rather than outright top speed. Furthermore, for a bike in this segment, big top speed isn't really what customers are buying this bike for. There is plenty of power to reach 195 km/h IMO, just needs another gear.
spot on mate i own a zx9 and i look at this bike as a bike for the twisties with its light weight ,its usable street power,and as far as looks go, well it doesnt get much better,
,i cant wait to test ride one they look like a whole lot of fun.

RC 390s speed is limited to 179 km/h...its a very good speed for indian road condition.it has abundance of torque,thats all you need.i have a rc 390,and you know how many times i hit the speed of 179 km/h.....absolutely ZERO..

This wasn't meant to showoff. It was just a video of the top speed. Period. Nothing more. Nothing less. I'm amazed at the power of this little single cylinder bike and the fact I'm getting 75 mpg at 50 mph cruising to work is going to save my ass a ton of fuel! I plan on driving this on days the snow is cleared off the roads good enough and mostly through the winter.
Iseekknowledge How do you like it as a commuter bike? I keep hearing people say it's a terrible daily driver. It's between this, the R3, or the CBR500R for me.

GT6SuzukaTimeTrials I'm really short - 5'4" so a 600cc is kind of too much for me - the weight plus seat heights are too much. So I've been eyeing these baby sports, can't decided between R3 and RC390 XD
I'm 6'0 and over 210 lbs so I could probably handle a 600cc. The RC390 is awesome but I hear it's not comfortable for long rides and it's a single so it's got bad vibrations. The maintenance will also cost more. I was also looking at the Yamaha WR250R because it's under 300 lbs wet and can go off-road when I want to. The seat height is probably too high for you to flat-foot at 5'4.
Stop arguing each other. Its depends on how n for what u ride. If u love and obses wit top speed then choose kawa or yamaha. If u love the pick up then u can choose ktm. Peace yaww.

Yesterday i tried my new rc390. My cut off limit is 180kmj. Maybe the Malaysia spec doesn’t same with India
I think this result is not too bad. Ktm duke 390 can reachs 180-191 after changing ecu and chain sprockets:)
can u remove rev limiter? , if removed what are the cons ?
Put a smaller sprocket on the back and it'll go faster it's the stock gearing that limits it to the speeds it goes on here you can see it's hitting the limiter in 6th that means it's wants to go for more
Mi RC 390 de año de fabricación 2014, hoy 2019, le saqué 179 kph. Su torque lo es todo, suficiente para dejar botado a una ninja 400 por lo menos por unos minutos hasta que te alcanza... salvo que estes corriendo en pistas con curvas y seas buen piloto, mantienes la ventaja, ya que la velocidad en curva puedes hacerlo mejor que la ninja...

recently install powertronic on my Ktm rc390 and power and top speed increased with a 42 tooth rear sprocket, I recommend

rc 390 if very great bike but lacks only in top speed.. even ninja 300 and r3 are faster than rc....
this is only due to shoter 6th gear ratio..
till 5th gear, gear ratios are fine for best performance on track but ktm should increase its 6th gear ratio....
if this happens..rc 390 will be fastest bike in its class

Company knows what tunning is best for engine life and performance..every bike is rev limited specially in top gear..if KTM increases the 6th gear ratio then top speed might increase but acceleration will reduce drastically..it will take ages to hit the top speed
Dominar has the same rpm limiter like 390 So the speed does not go over 170

Sad to know most people can't respect what they are getting at this price point. There are reasons to limit the rev, it's for your safety after all. Moreover Indian roads are not built for you to blaze it off and be threat for you and others as well?
The people who get such powerful bikes do not play with it on city road bro they take it to the track of highways to have fun with it's power but you have a point there. Although this KTM RC390 has many flaws but it is too affordable. Atleast KTM is providing a sportsbike of this power at such a low cost. I however prefer to spend the extra money on bikes like the Yamaha R3 or ninja 300 bcoz of their quality and performance
+Prashant Joshi I respect your opinion, mate. And I refer to people in the same thread who are talking about KTM to not being able to attain high speed as compared to bikes in the same segment. I own the RC390 and let me tell you, I have seen a lot of people riding the RC being a threat to others. I wouldn't have come up with such a disheartened response anyway.

Tauqueer Husain the truth is that we can not deny that RC390 has probably got the highest acceleration. It produces the most amount of torque in the sub 400 cc category but when it comes to top speed Yamaha R3 has the highest of 194 kmph for some people it matters for some it doesn't. For me I go for looks, sound and premium build quality and finish. Some people like the way RC390 looks. I like RC390 from the side a lot and it's color schemes are really cool. It's just that the front of the bike doesn't appeal at all to me with such small and narrow headlights. I want the bike to feel big and give a feeling of a supersport bike like the ninja 300 does with big, wide headlights and with a bigger fuel tank (has the biggest of 17 L) KTM RC390 has a really small tank of 9.7 L compared to both Yamaha R3 (14 L) and ninja 309 which makes the RC look really narrow and not suitable for long touring. To each his own though. One should never forget that KTM RC390 is ridiculously cheap. It gives a great performance if the price is kept in mind.

Well it is only a 44 bhp bike. For that it is actually really good!
yzf r25 can do the same like 173 km/h ... with much less 35.5 bhp and only 250 cc ...

Lol mate, if u want 190+ on ktm, remove the rev limiter or change the sprockets but m sure you know none of these. Hope u kids grow up to ride better and not just fast :)
i hope u understand the fact that RC is a single cyclinder, high compression bike, u can change the sprocket and tune ur ecu but anything else u mentioned is not possible, u can go customer exhaust but in no ways thats gonna increase ur top end. A top end of the bike depends on sprocket setting and gearing ratios, for example if the 6th gear is taller with a shorter sprocket, u wud b able to tk the RC to 190KPH.
so stop googling for all the info buddy, if you want something better than RC390, go for zx6r or RC8, coz even hyosong gt650 and ninja 600 , the top end is gonna be only 210 KPH, and those are 600 cc bikes.
How do you get your bike to get past 140kph?...did you adjust the rev limiter and is it a stock ecu?

Replaced your rear sprocket to a 42 tooth and you will see a difference. i hit a 115mph and it want it to go more, i ran out of space
The Speed is Hard Limited to 180Kph in RC390 !
Every bike is rev limited speacially in top gear..Kawasaki Yamaha Honda etc etc... KTM is no exception..this is common for all bikes

Arturo Rocha chceca los videos en RUclips de cómo quitar el limitado e de revoluciones. Yo tengo una RC200 y se lo cambié de los 8500 a los 10 mil. Pero es lo mismo si lo tiene a las 10 mil o a las 8500 rpm. Solo que la luz roja cada que uno la ve se siente incomodidad de que algo le pueda pasar si la forza mas. Pero no pasa nada. Solo ve esos videos para que lo cambies
De echo ya lo ise pero al apagar la moto se reinicia y vuelve a quedar a 8500

Azri Shahrir Yup i know that i have plenty of aftermarket options to increase speed but those all will void warranty. If i'm buying then will keep the bike stock atleast for a year before i start modifications so disappointed with stock gearing and top speed limitation
Pradeep Ramesh by doing everything you might ended up with blowing your engine off :) ...Dude KTM knows the engine capacity better than us...do not try to hard ....after u spend lakhs in modification eneded up blowing engine is not a gud thing,,,,,,n sporket change means it will hv some side effect :)
With sprocket ( upto 3 teeth modification) change there wont be any side effect dude come on! Sprocketing is the safest way to increase acceleration n reduce top speed or decrease acceleration and increase top end. Even liter class bikes users do that. You are just altering the final drive which has no effect on the engine at all, if there is power and engine can pull more taller gearing then it will without any problem. Unlike Ninja where it hits 190kmph+(speedo reading) only in slight downslopes, this bike is banging its limiter very very soon, it surely can do 185+ with sprocket change without sweat. Can you pls show me one example where changing sprocket ended up in blowing engine?? Look at the way the engine rockets to 10k rpm, when you are riding fast it is almost not possible not to hit the limiter in 1st and second gears, with slightly taller gearing definitely RC will benefit.
Pradeep Ramesh KTM definately closely moniter all possibility and tested in all possible environment.....if u do that may be ended up in slower accleration .....bt nyways u can buy n test it...
senaritra dutta Always the company folks give a balance of all the parameters and depending on your requirements you can always do some corrections and sprockets are the easiest way to get what you desire. I remember an experiment on Honda shine by overdrive when they fit the sprocket of unicorn which was one teeth more and the results were excellent, not only they got more mileage, they had better acceleration and top speed figures too. The Honda shine is a classic example where company has not geared its bike correctly and KTM RC390 is another. Please wait for sometime for someone to make these changes and test, i'm sure we'll see higher top speed and who knows better acceleration post 150kmph and mileage too

Awesome. You can visit gas station way faster than anybody else in da hood. I own 2T and 4T, dirt and road bike. It's not a matter of one bike being superior to other. It's all about what kind of power delivery someone needs.

Different engine configuration and gearing.
The KTM is of better build quality, better looking and will have a far greater resale value.
To answer your question it is good.
but for me not so good..maintenance is high..part is expensive..but i agree with you that ktm is build with quality kawa also did that.. ..But in malaysia its just didnt work out bcoz people always wanted overall view..not just a few things..
