it is HUGELY empowering to start dressing for what brings you joy. for me its oversized blazers, high waisted pants and mens button down shirts. it means that more often than not when I pick something out of my drawers or closet I love the piece and get a little happy that I get to wear it. and in our generally depressing world, finding little joys to savor is literally everything! love this video, thank you for it, sharing it with some friends as well. :) keep it up!

I came searching for a video about autism and fashion to see if anyone else had had similar thoughts & feelings about fashion/ clothing choices - and this video is exactly what I was looking for! Just perfect, said so well ✨ thanks for sharing, this was so relatable!

Everything you said about dressing up as a character from a special interest, I relate 100%. And like you said, it’s not that I’m trying to cosplay exactly or it’s kin thing, no, it’s me, it’s how I want to wear, but heavily inspired by a character (sometimes quite obviously, as I also tend to copy hairstyles that I like, even if they are ‘odd’-I’m mostly into cartoon, anime and video games soooo)
I still have my own style too, which includes a lot of bows and frills and colors. I do tend to stand out, even when I tried to somewhat suppress that and appear more ‘casual’ because being perceived made me extremely anxious when I was younger (and still makes me a little)
Not diagnosed yet but…a lot of things resonate with me.

This is so relatable. I grew up in the '80s and '90s. When I was young, I was into mod, hippie, and disco esthetics from the '60s and '70s. Other than the *tiny* goth phase. Was it the 'tism? 🤔 I also had invisible and hide my body phases. Now I love a comfy dress with pockets and leggings, and cozy sweaters. Comfort is key! I love the look of accessories, but they give me sensory issues.

Great video, I think we need to talk more about this. I'm 43 and now discovering myself regarding what I like to wear. Call me M&S Man. As a child my parents chose my clothes and I was never interested in have a style or fashion growing up. Until recently I suddenly thought...what do I want to wear, and what do I like. I never considered my image, why? Is this an autistic trait? I'm spending hours looking at Converse Chuck 70's, still haven't bought any but love them and they way they look. I'm sure I will buy some after many more hours doing research and visiting a shop to touch them. I love the reference in the videa to 80's. I think TV shows like Stranger things has brought back interest in this era of close and style. I love the 80's it was the best! I also like your reference of a period of buying and wearing boring clothes such as what you can pick up at Matalan. Not having been interested in style and fashion I have worn these clothes for as long as I can remember. Do you think there is a time when you realise your autistic and discovering who you are and what you like, includes image and what you really like to wear, how it makes you feel?

Hi! My name is Jamie! I have an outfit that I wear an iteration of all the time. I wear a tank top, a miniskirt, and a green raincoat over top of it (the raincoat is mid-thigh length so I am almost wearing it as a dress) and it's paired with mid-calf riding boots. I'm like a cartoon character who never varies her outfit but dressing like this makes me happy. Yes, I do get hot in the raincoat, but I don't mind, and I actually enjoy it, as strange as that sounds (my legs do get cold in winter, though, I live in Massachusetts).

Hi Jamie! That sounds like a really cool outfit! Kinda reminds me of the outfit the main character wear in the show and comics Hilda

@@DanaAndersen Thank you so much! You're one of only a few people who has ever complimented my outfit before. Mostly I get weird looks for leaving my raincoat on all the time. But I love wearing it so much! (You can even see from my profile pic, it was taken on a sunny day)
